  1. Thanks for the offer. Am taking it to the local fire station Monday night where hopefully they will be able to show me how to work it. As you can imagine all the instructions are in Japanese.
  2. Actually a bit of both, but the collecting of water was the justification for spending the money on it
  3. Heard a loud bang last night and discored that the glass on my 250MH had exploded. Is there anybody out there that has a spare glass cover by any chance please.
  4. No I,m not joking. Am definately just waiting for lessons on how to use the pumps and its all go. Motor is 2.4ltre petrol. Would have to sell the house to be able to afford to drive it to Auckland. Next time your down you can see my tank again and allow time for a ride as well.
  5. No point in going small with marine. My collection method. http://images1.snapfish.com/346%3A535%3A2%7Ffp345%3Enu%3D3262%3E665%3E3%3B4%3EWSNRCG%3D3233729%3A42478nu0mrj

    New Flow

sorri should have made it more clear. Whilst the outlet hole from the sump is 30mm, with the piping that was on it, it was reduced to 19mm. this was how I got the tank originally. My biggest worry is that the overflow is only 25mm from the top of the tank which means the water level is only 20mm from the top. But in saying that with the correct size outlet there should not be a problem

    New Flow

Thanks for the imput guys. There is 3 bends on the imput pipe so this brings the flow down to 4420 lph whilst the SCWD will take 5200. Never thought of a downpipe/durso so will now rush to my tank and reassess things in that line. My sump outlet is 30mm so should be able to do something.

    New Flow

Quote! "if it aint broke dont fix it" How true are these words. I decided, based on expert advise that I needed to up the flow in my tank. I was using an Eheim 3200lph through a scwd. This combined with head height and bends wasnt giving the water movement that the tank needed. Simple solution upgrade the pump. Buy a new pump. Bugger!! my fittings are 20mm the new pump 25mm. Off to town to buy new piping. Fit new piping and watch the water jet into the tank. Keep watching the tank and see the water flowing over the top. With the new flow the overflow pipe cant handle the extra. Rush back to town for some bigger piping. Get it all fitted and working well. BUT now the overflow is making gurgling noises. Will have to go to town again tomorrow and get a tap to fit to the overflow pipe to slow it down a bit to give better control of the water level in the overflow. Day 1 wasted. Now tomorrow I can start on setting the new skimmer going. Maybe I should go to town and buy a plumbing shop before I start.

    water flow

I am currently re-arranging my 1800 tank and was wondering what is the consensus on the best place to have the flow pumps. I have noticed in the tanks that I have looked at that most people seem to have all the pumps at one end. Is this just for a better look or does this give more satisfactory water current thanks. I currently have a SEIO at each end with a powerhead at one end only. This is supplemented with a squid and a hang-on Deltec skimmer.

    mushrooms

I have 4 large mushrooms (I think they are called Elephant mushrooms) that I would like to swap for other corals. I will be in Auckland Friday night at the Tudor lodge Motel in Greenlane then will be leaving early Saturday afternoon. I can be contacted on 025 742043. Sorry havent a camera to post a pic.
  13. If you would like to contact me I can probably help you out with anything you need. My partner and I are pres and sec of the taranaki fish club. You can contact me on 06 7567 521 Mitch
  14. I kept WCMM in with my guppies and in a seperate tropical tank and they never bred. Put them in a pond outside and they spawned like it was going out of fashion. Definately reccomend cold water.
  15. dont want to be a wet blanket but two of us bought those monitors and found them to be wildly inaccurate. I had mine in a marine tank and it was set at 30c. It would start going off at 10pm at night yet never went off in the heat of the day. I checked with two other thermometers and found it to be at least 3c out. This was also happening to my mate who purchased one at the same time. I would not say they were a total waste of time as they do at least make you aware of temperature and the need at times to check it by some other means.
  16. As the President of TAPS it is my unpleasant duty to advise the sudden and tragic passing of Carol Mercer. Carol passed away peacefully at home this afternoon. Carol was a valued member of our Club being a past Bulletin Editor as well as a member of the committee from the time she joined the Club. She was also the Minutes Secretary for the Federation. In whatever she undertook Carol always put her heart and sole into her duties and her contributions will be sadly missed. One of her last requests was that her fish go to a good home and requested that they be passed on to our youngest club member. Even at that late stage she still had the interests of the hobby at heart. On behalf of us all we have passed on our condolences to Carol's family. Carol: You will be sadly missed; safe journey
  17. I believe them to be approx tea cup saucer size. Probably about 4in. Mitch
  18. Can anybody help with information on how to send turtles around the country please. I want to get three snakenecks from Timaru to New Plymouth.
  19. Well I havent had the time to come on this site for some weeks but wish I had made the time and read this posting. I had the misfortune to be away late on monday night and returned home to find my tank was sitting on 32c. Rushed down to the local garage 10.30pm and purchased a large bag of ice, which I floated in the tank. Unfortunately this was too late. The tank which I was so proud of because everything in it was growing well is now a total disaster. I have lost over half of my corals including a large leather (8in across) an anenome, and numerous other leathers. Never did I imagine that the temperature in Taranaki would ever get so hot that I would have to take the precautions that you Jaffas have to. Dont anybody ever say it is cold in Taranaki. Now I am totally paranoid about temperature and probably check the tank temperature every hour.
  20. Will be coming to Auckland this Tuesday 10th with 2 saltwater "newbies". They are looking for corals, fish and live rock. If you can help please PM me with details thanks. Mitch
  21. Try Poste haste, Peter Baker transport or Courierpost. I work in conjunction with all three so if you have any problems let me know and I will twist a couple of tails.
  22. basically as I understand it Alan took on the resposibility of importing some Killies which were to be distributed among members. Due to a problem with the importing a lot less number than expected finaly arrived. Rather than split these few fish among a number of members and greatly increasing the possible number of losses Alan took it upon himself (on behalf of NZKA) to restrict the distribution to 2 members who were recognised as top breeders. This was in the hope that these fish would breed and then become available to all. It appears that this has got up the nose of some people who have been very vocal in decrying the decision and the fact that they didn't get any of this limited supply and now object to NZKA funds being used for the purpose. As I said when I started this post I have NO doubt that Alan was doing what was best for NZKA as a whole and unless these other people wish to put the time and effort into this project that Alan has "Keep your mouth firmly closed" Alan has been left out of pocket on this excercise and the only thanks he gets is unjustified criticism. I understand that these Killies are now breeding and will be available to other members in the near future.
  23. I really thought by now that someone better at words than me would have had something to say about the resignation of the president of the killie fish Assn. Had the resignation been due to personal reasons this would not have been a problem. But no this resignation is due to the small mindedness of some killie members who are quite willing to sit back and do nothing and then when something is done spend their idle time carping about what has been done, because it was not to their satisfaction. Alan over the years has done a lot to help not only the NZKA but all fish keepers as well. The moaners are conspicuous by their lack of identity. As the President of Taps I have found that on the odd occasion it is necesary to make a decision without consultation because of the urgency of the matter and the difficulty on always being able to make immediate contact. As this is not a common happening I always receive support from the Club members as they know that what has been done is for the overall benefit of all members. For those of you members of NZKA who have now turned the clock way back on the future of Killies in NZ I suggest you look closely at your motives and consider the damage you have done to those members who would have had a chance of new breeds in the future if you had not come along and stuffed it up. I personally will miss Alan's wit and dedication to the cause at Conference. I trust you complainers are going to take his place and bring many years of experience to Conference. BRING BACK ALAN
  24. When I was first told about "The Pethouse" I was led to believe that the guy running it knew nothing about fish and that they were housed in terrible conditions. Even so I still had to visit. It cost me about an hour out of my trip home but every minute of it was worth it. This guy knows his fish, they are healthy and kept in good conditions, and I wish all pet shops were as honest as he is. In the time I was in the shop he refused to sell a customer some neons as he was not happy with their health and when I asked about buying a couple of marine fish he refused to sell them to me as I didnt have a quarantine tank. Six months later I returned to his shop and he knew who we were and what type of tank I was running. We discussed a couple of matters and I found his answers honest and striaght to the point. If there was another shop in Wellington I dont think I would waste my time with it. He will get another visit from me this weekend.
  25. They look nice so I just know somebody is going to tell me they are evil. I have a new growth on a couple of rocks. It has a white stalk about half inch long but very fine and a head that looks like a flower. The head is almost clear like a fine net and shaped like a cup. Identification please.
