Had brother in-law staying once. He got a lovely wake up at 2.00am with water running through the ceiling. Return pump from sump had stopped and had a bit of a syphone going from tank . Glad he was there or it would have been an empty tank.

Yeh this is what I'm concerned with pH swing. Yeast would be what I'll start out with and I'll take it from there. What can I do to make system staff. Constant flow of Co2 with tap? What happens when yeast runs out. Have down load heaps of info. Whats It like to use. Do you use it? what do you do to make for safe operation. May be try out on Angel tank fist.

What do people think about co2 unit for Discus tank. I've not used co2 before so unsure what will happen. Read that pH will drop and hardness increase. Does anyone have one running in there own Discus tank? Your throughs??

I'ld be happy to pay a bit more for farm raised fish. This has to be the way of the future..

1080 could be a problem as DOC are dropping heaps at the moment with more planned. Seeing its being use for water supply to Ruatapu I'll try the local council for a break down of the water/minerals values.

Not much room in the car with stones, driftwood and the odd deer for lake water but will go down next time with my meters and test kit.

On the West coast yesterday (mainland) and went down to the lake. What water, nice and brown if only it was 28-30c there be heaps of Discus in it. Would it be an option to use say a ltr in my tank (200 ltr) once a week. It is suitable for drinking with the town ship of Ruatapu current drawing its supply from it. Would check pH etc first but just looks like it was made for my Discus. Would boil first. What do you think.Another Lake Brunner is rain feed with no river running in to it, stay's warn in winter, brown in colour only problem being bach's alround egde (human waste). Has any one tried water like this. Just asking could be wrong thing to do but has any one tried?

What i did and i have a couple of the AR tanks was to take 1/2 the filter pads out of the old tank and replaced with new ones, the old ones were just dropped in to the new tank or you could put them in filter. Worked great for one week then add a couple of fish to test and build bio stength, one week after this started add final fish to be stock in 10-20 (tetras) lots. Only loses due to poor stock at LFS. Fish breeded and riased at home are always bigger brigther best.

The coast is just the best part of NZ, even coming from a townie that dosen't go walk about. Theres a guy at Ross who pulls logs of the beach and mills them for sawn furniture timber. Yes it is also the best place to get stones from even bets Queenstown and central. Do your rallies live at the "pa" Arahuna (sorry about spelling) would love to get some stone from here but off limits as you would know.

This is just the biggest pain. They all came from the same shop and I've had problem with other fish from there as well. They are meant to be the oldest and best shop in CHCH but the staff really let them down. If they had there shit together they would own this market. The bestest concern I have is some of these fish cycled my new Discus tank. Oh F***.

I visit Hoki once every 2 weeks for work and if I'm not getting stones for my tank I'm getting ferns for the garden. Last nigth was drift wood from the mouth of the Hoki river.

Is there anything I can treat the hole tank with, as mixing with food is a bit random.

So the main thing is that it sinks. I don't have to try and clean/kill any thing that is on it?

Tried cat pill with beef heart. Only fish that was keen is the big Angle. will try smaller dose mix. If I take my Cardinail/Neon Tetras out of this tank well they be ok to put with Discus. I'm sure that you'll say no but if I can't get this problem solved I'll be left with a tank of live food for the Angles that are growing. All the fish in the tank look great apart from 1 silver Angle and 2 Black Angles (8 Angles, 2 Gromi's, 1 Pleco, 1Red Tail, 2 Kuli, 5 Guppies, and 12 Tetras).

What should I look for in a log to place in my Discus tank. I'm on the West coast of the South Island so lots of native flooding down the river. How long dose it have to be soaked for b4 it can be put in the tank. What else do I have to do b4 putting in tank.

Is there any problems using water out of a hot water cylinder (copper pipes etc). I'm in CHCH so water source good. Have been using this for months now and no problems I think. Just got Discus so don't want to kill thses guys. Snails alive and well in tank, Doesn't copper kill them?? Cylinders about 5 years old, over time will it become a problem.

Discus not in with Angles. Discus will go in second com tank with Tetras, Croy's, Gromi's and Ram when i can find nice one. Currently Discus in bear bottom tank as only received these Wednesday. Will put 2 in com tank but this is a few months away. Other 2 strains well hopefully pair. 9Discus total and 3 strains. Where are my African's going to go when I get around to it. Next time I build a house I'll have to design it around the tanks.

I think a new house is the go as I'm full of tanks already and building a tank room in sleepout. Would like to move my couch out a 1-1/2' and put 10' tank behind it with sump in corner hiden by 3' Discus tank. This and I still want to breed Parrots and I don't think the neighbour would be to keen on 1/2 dozen Galahs and A Grey's ou the back yard , I need a farm.

That is a lot of ligth but don't want to cut corners. HP Sodium is meant to be the closest match to sun ligth where as MH is best for floral growth in plants I take it it's the some for corals.

Cheers will start with large tank perpose build with MH ligths . What wattage is best. I now that per wattage 400w is best $ per watt but wouldn't think that one of these in the centre of a 3-4' tank would be that good.

Can always add extra filter and have been told by serval people at LFS that with high intensitiy tubes ligthing would be ok. Heigth is about 500mm from bottom to ligths. If no good can build tank just more hassel and like to use all in one tanks for display as a bit of over kill for breeding tank. Good tanks for freash water and I'm lukey to get them at wholesale rates.

Just question at the moment. photos on this site make me want one. Currently have AR980 220 ltr set up as a bear bottom Discus tank, once they reach full size well move them in to breeding tanks and display tank so this tank would be spear. What/how much cound I put in this. Would like Clown fish and corals. Maybe a couple more fish but mainly corals. Is there a limit to what can be stocked or does it come down to filtration and water quality,verse surface area of water.

Looking to use it on my Angles. Some don't seem to be putting any weigth size on, while one has all most doubled in size. Have seen stringy white stuff coming out of vent when I treated tank with curex. Didn't seem to sort problem out. Will try your option.
