Good thanks Wasp, this cyno thing is really disheartening, my tank just looks so dirty, even though ammo-0, nitrite-0, nitrate-10. So water is not to bad, nitrate at 10 is pretty high though. Today will be the third day at dosing, im going to do another water change, and try to suck as much of it out as i can, then i might leave my lights off, till tommorow.

Bummer its raining, i was gonna go get some water from Herald island tonight. Do you guys trust Takapuna beach for getting water? isnt it quite polluted, my brother in law got really sick from swimming there. cheers

I started my first dose tonight, 1 ml for my tank(130 ltrs), how does that sound? will be interesting to see if there is an improvement.

Thanks for the advice reef I might give it a few more weeks before i try the vodka. Il keep on syphoning the cyno out and doing water changes, it seems to be making a bit of a dent in it

So what if i used vodka just to help rid the cyno? would that be ok?. Its just that i can get this mix for free off my mate, its not vodka but alcohol and water, he can make it vodka by adding the flavour, but i kinda thought it wouldnt be needed. The cyno seems to be slowing down, now that im doing water changes, maybe i should wait, see if i can get rid of it naturally.

Thanks Reef, would the Bio digest or biotum help with reducing cyanobacteria? ive been doing weekly water changes, and sucking alot of it out, and it seems to be slowing down now. what is the bad bacteria, would that be cyano?

Just wondering about the vodka idea? should i give it a go? ive done a google search, but wanted to put it to you guys, see what yas recommend. Are many people here using it? would it be benificial to my tank? Ive got a mate who makes his own spirits and he can make me a solution of water and 40 % alcohol would this be ok? cheers

Hmmmm, i dont think they would have died, Bichir are pretty hardy, especially when all the rest are ok, but then you never know . I say someone is a very happy customer or they might have gone on display somewhere.

Yea i had a slight case of brown algae, but that has gone now, tank and rock is looking good, hopefully wont have to many probs(touch wood).

I have been using a skimmer during the cycle, and i have noticed that once the skimmer had started working(new), the skimmate was quite dark for the first few weeks, now it seems to be a little lighter.
