  1. Trust me, it will. Not worth the risk id say especially for the $. Definately go for a poly, but make up or get some lids made, shouldnt cost to much. You may need to put some bracing on top just to support the lids, wich you could get made up at the same time as the lids. It is very easy to glue them on too, i think it cost about $9 for a tube of aquarium safe silicon from mitre 10.
  2. Hmm, will try to get one at some stage, have to borrow a camera, and its allready in the filter going, but il try, maybe next time i have to replace the filter wool
  3. Hey all i recently made a new drip plate for my trickle filter, works so much better than the slates of glass it had before. Heres how 4.5mm perspex Hole size of 3/16" Holes separated by 3/4 inch spaces, Holes tapered at the top of the place. No holes within 1 inch of all filter sides, to reduce channeling. Hole size may vary depending on flow rate, but i find that it handles 2500ltrs ok I also cut some airline down the centre, and put it around the edge of the perspex, to act as a seal. Now the water is spread evenly over all of my media. Thought i would share with all, ive found it works really well
  4. Hey all, just wondering, now that i am using a trickle filter, do i still need to break the surface of the water with the return from my pump, or will the trickle oxygenate the water enough? I can easily break the surface, but i like to face the return away from the overflow rather than towards it, wich means not much surface disruption. Any ideas?
  5. Maybe a breeding pair of senegal, i dont think that delhezi are tank bred yet.
  6. One i would think, that is around 220ltrs i think, i would go for a senegal as they are one of the smaller bichir, and get to around 12". As for price, well, hopefully if more and more poeple get interested in these kind of fish, maybe the price may come down. These fish are totaly worth it though.
  7. Hollywood have, polypterus palmas polli $160ish, polypterus senegal senegalus $140ish, polypterus delhezi $160ish, but i think they are all sold at mt roskill polypterus senegal senegalus albino on special $99, and some ornates, which they wont sell.
  8. Bichir are good swimmers and good jumpers, it wouldnt need the ledge to get out it would prob just jump straight out, if you got some lids made up it would be fine, but if it was me i would still tape up around any filter pipes that go through the lids.
  9. hmmm, maybe not such a good idea for the bichir, you would prob find that it wouldnt use the ledge, and you would need tight fitting lids, cause these guys are escape artists. What about mud skippers? dont know to much about those though.
  10. I use glass cleaner on paper towel, spray it on the towel not the glass to avoid over spray into the tank. Havent had any probs
  11. I got it from hollywood f/farm, quite expensive $160, i had to order one, they dont get them in to often, will eat almost any meat or fish or bugs, the other day it ate a pea, which i didnt think it would.
  12. Albino senegal or albino bichir as more commonly know, these guys get to a size of around 12" in aquaria, can tolerate a wide range of water perameters, and eat just about anything on the meaty menu. I would hightly recommend this fish for a larger fish community, not aggressive, and aggressive fish usually dont bother them either.
  13. Yes definately, hope this helps.
  14. thanks, they get to a size of about 14", i dont have a digi, i borrowed my bros, not too sure on the make sorry. anyone else got some pics they would like to add?
  15. Thanks guys, they are the coolest fish i have ever kept, heaps of personality. This is what mine should look like once his black bars develop as he gets older
  16. Anyone got any interesting or not to common fish? Keen to see some pics, if yas have got any. Heres a pic of my Polypterus Delhezi, its only a baby at about 5inch

  20. What size tank are you getting made, and fish are you keeping? pies is very helpfull with this sort of thing, he has helped me with my sump. Check out some of his thread in the salt water section, might help a bit, or maybe pm him.
  21. Hmmm, i think i have seen those as well, do they look like a big bucket?
  22. Here is something i would recommend to anyone who has a big tank with big messy fish, and cloudy water. Laguna pond clear, yes i know it is for ponds and i know its a tad expensive but blimmen heck it works a treat. The trick is to pack your filter with filter wool, put a couple of cap fulls in after lights out, and when you get up in the morn, crystal clear. The filter wool needs to be removed the next day though. I say after lights out, cause once you put it in, your water goes like milk. I have used this many times on my big tanks, and it doesnt bother the fish at all. I have had the same probs with cichlids, ph probs and cloudy water, it takes ages for the tank to wear in, i suppose you could say.
