  1. Hey all, bought some blackline flying fox today 8), doing a bit of research shows that there is a difference between flying fox and SAE, but the ones I bought look like SAE :-? Can any one tell me if blackline flying fox is just another name for SAE, and different from flying fox? Thanks

    Mega tank

Nice , and they have an arapaima in there
  3. You could use a surface skimmer if the problem is ongoing.
  4. Thanks Warren, i will have a chat with him, see how hardout he wants to get with growing his plants, he is more worried about the plants at the bottom not doing that well.
  5. Yea a proper overflow would be much safer.
  6. My brother has a 2'x2'x2' planted cube, and we were talking about upgrading his lights. At the mo he has 4x 20w T8's, he was talking about getting a m/halide after seeing mine, and i suggested t5's. Is anyone using T5's on a planted tank? i thought that it might be the way to go,because its quite deep the T8's arent really as effective.
  7. , you would have to drill your tank to run an overflow for a sump, or maybe get one of these I have had very little probs so far with my tank, with no sump.
  8. Check out my tank, 620T, might give you an idea of what you can do. I have no filters, just a skimmer, rock and powerhead. Have a read through the threads, there is alot of good info on seting up beachys tank
  9. If you keep the 980, and dont want a sump, a hang on back skimmer is the way to go. You will need a surface skimmer, either hooked up to the protien skimmer, or i have found hooking it up to a power head works as well. You will however have to cut the filter, which wont really be needed, and get a nice power head .
  10. I have an aqua medic skimmer, i was just wondering how much foam i should be getting? Untill about a week ago my S.G was 1.032, and has been that way since setting up about 6 months ago. I have always had a good amount of foam sitting at the top of the cone in the skimmer cup. Now that i have dropped the S.G down to a correct level, ive noticed not much foam on top of the cone, sometimes there is, sometimes not. I still seem to be getting skimmate, should i be worried? I have never had a skimmer before, so im not to sure how they are supposed to be set up i.e foam just dribling over the top, or always foam at the top? cheers
  11. Hmmm, has a quick look in the private T&E  Well done steve, lets hope it turns into a baby factory, so we can all have one
  12. Thats cool, it looks really good, i thought they were some kind of halide or something. I wonder how things go on an overcast day? Wonder what the power bill is like

    NSW advice

I will definately be getting one, b/days comming up soon
  16. Chimera do you have aluminium joinery? We have wooden joinery, exept for two ranch sliders, and most of the condensation we have been getting is on the ranch sliders. Still its not much, and it goes very quickly in the morning when it heats up a bit. We used to have a real bad mould problem, and dont really get any now, so i can live with a little condensation, rather than mould.

    NSW advice

Went to hollywood tonite, they tested my tank water with a refractometer, 1.032 my hydrometer was saying 1.023-1.024. Then tested Taka sea water 1.028 my hydro was saying 1.020-1.021. They recommended a red sea swing arm type, as i cant afford a refract at the mo, tested my tank water 1.026  so i guess its a closer read but still not close enough. I think i will aim for about 1.021 hopefully it will be about rite.

    NSW advice

I was there at 11.00, and yes it was freezing , i was thinking i might see someone down there . I suppose its not safe to assume that 1.021 would mean 1.028 on my hydro? and then maybe aim for 1.019, just until i get a refractometer. My S.g must be around 1.031 at the mo

    NSW advice

I went to Takapuna today to get some nsw, this is the second time ive tried nsw, first time i went to Murawai. I have a swing arm type hydrometer, and when i mix up asw, i mix it to about 1.024. I have tested Takapuna water today and it reads 1.021 , as i understand its usually around 1.028. So if takapuna water is 1.028 today, my swing arm type hydrometer is way off, which i understand is not uncommon. So my next question is, should i put the NSW straight in, even though it reads 1.021, im a bit worried about lowering s.g to fast. I was thinking about buying a floating type hydrometer, are they any better than swing arm? I would love to get a refractometer but dont have the funds at the mo. Thanks in advance
  21. It just blows air into the house, so if the roof cavity gets really cold it slows down, but its always going. As for power, we have had ours for about 8 months and havnt noticed very much on our bill.
  22. I paired my perc a few weeks ago, they had a little bit of a tussle, then all good. The second one i bought was quite a bit smaller though, the next thing is for them to host my anemone, fingers crossed
