  1. cool, see how things go you could end up with ww3 when the f/horn gets bigger, although you could be lucky and get away with keeping them together.
  2. Ok, well flower horn and pleco are seen to be a threat to the oscar, its a territory thing, tinfoils and catfish dont really pose a threat. I would have thought the flower horn would be doing all the damage, is it quite small? I am trying a flower horn in my tank at the mo, it doesnt like my plec either but it doesnt touch my bichir, although ive got a close eye on him.
  3. Yes a water change weekly is recomended either aged or with chlorine remover, but in so saying that i have seen some tanks that are apsolutely disgusting, hardly never had a water change. The fish in the tank were fine, i would go as far as saying that they were better than fine, they looked really healthy. I wouldnt recommend doing this, but it goes to show that fish are a bit hardier than we think( well than i tought ). My brother has a tank of community fish, and when he does a water change he never uses aged water or water ager, its just straight out of the tap, his fish are fine and breeding. Something to think about
  4. cool, how long do they last? i suppose it depends on how dirty the tank is? would they be any good on a tank with big fish or better applied to smaller community fish setups.
  5. I know that uv sterilizers dont filter out particals in the water, but i have found when using one, my water is usually really clear(polished) you could say, almost the same as carbon. Even using pond uv sterilzers on my tanks has worked. Just a thought Dont diatomatious filters clog really quick? i think i read that somewhere.
  6. cool mine is too, i was gonna post a pic but couldnt get him to stay still, not sure if my del is m or f, i'm thinking f but it could be to young to tell.
  7. Hi candy, bichir can be sexed by looking at the anal fin. Males have a fatter anal fin that they can cup around, looks almost like a cupped hand. Females have a thinner anal fin, some species can be sexed earlier than others, i think usually from about 4" onwards, but that can also vary as well.
  8. Well i havnt had any probs with clorine and stuff like that, i even done changes this way with discus, on town supply.
  9. Ok i use two right angle elbows the same size as the garden hose. Cut two small pieces of hose, say three or four inch. connect one of the elbows to the end of the hose to go into the tank, then connect one of the short pieces of hose, then connect the other elbow, then the other piece of hose. You should end up with a u shape that you can hange over the lip of the tank, by cutting the middle piece it can be adjusted to fit the tank, i use 3-4" because i have bracing along the top of my tank. As for over filling and over syphoning, i just keep my eye on it . Hope you can kind of understand, i would post a pic but me digi aint working.
  10. Our laundry isnt to far from my tank, so i just connect a garden hose up to the washing machine taps. At the mo i just use the cold and put a few buckets of hot in, but im gonna go to the hardware store and buy a t joiner so i can get the mix perfect. I use some water conditioner, just squirt it straight into the tank. I have used this method for ages, and havent had any probs, i usually change 100 odd litres every week so this helps, instead of going back and forth with a bucket.
  11. Hey rob, very good thanks, growing at a good steady pace. It is around 6" now. The only prob is finding a descent tank mate for them, ive got an appolo shark, just hope he is big enough not to be eaten
  12. *Edit* (Double Post) *Mod-Mystic*
  13. good to hear, thats a good feast. Not to sure why he wont eat though, maybe someone here might have some answers?
  14. Hmmm, three months sounds like a long time, they dont need to be fed every day when they get big, i have read of people feeding once a week. In the wild they only feed when they need to, as food isnt readily available. How old is he, he must be big?
  15. Hi, 2ltr v6 quad cam, mixed feelings about this engine. On one hand it produces quite good horse power, not overly fast but not a snail. On the other, these engines can be quite noisy e.g they make quite a ticking noise, this does not effect the motor at all, its a factory problem that can be fixed with a dampening kit, but for the trouble it takes to install its not worth it.

  17. Aros do live a long time, you should try to get a peachy orange coloured giant gaurami, they look really cool, i had one once in with a silver aro. After comming home to find my aros fins and tail shredded, i moved the gaurami on, oops.

    HELP :-)

Thats interesting ira, i do a water change on sat and a smaller one on wed and seem to have a high nitrate prob too. I might try water changes without the gravel cleen, see what happens.
  20. Thanks Anne, he will be nice at that size.
  21. Kim, how big is your albino? ive been told that albinos get to about 12" mine is about 7" great fish, must be a good size to get a pictus down
  22. Yes they do eat tetras or anything small enough to fit in their mouths, i keep mine with discus and angelfish with no problems. They can be kept with a broad range of fish, i had mine in with some aggressive cichlids, and he was never bothered, i just got a bit sick of the fighting between the aggressive fish. Hope this helps. I have found it to be a good combo

    6ft Tank

Yea sounds nice, but wouldnt you rather use a 6 footer to its full potential, get some really nice fish? It would be nice planted, quite limited if you cant fill it to much though.
