  1. like i said, get 10 friensd to come in, jump on the corner where the tank will be if it collapses, then no harm done on tank:P :nilly:
  2. no they will destroy plants, most plants they tend tos tay away from hard leaves like java, if well fed that can reduce the need to eat plants but instinctively, they will consume most plants they can. i have tried it. bad news.
  3. yeah, doesnt look novelty enough dont know why. i mean its nice but looks like a normal tiger pleco type thing i see all the time. flash pleco or something. does it get monstrous? thats 1 point for me 8)
  4. "When they crap out they have a tendency to cook fish." does not sound reassuring :dunno: lol
  5. cruddy! tehrmostat si in accurate - and swings heavily. aqua one is better for the price. but they do have good wararnty periods, but why have warranty period, just make a product that doesnt break often:D eheim baby!, jager heaters rule! you can save way more with reliability
  6. if the green is same from davids batch, then its way stunted! should not be sold at all with out warning lol
  7. or boiling water, kettle, boil... pour, kills everything!
  8. haha yeah, no getting an albino is very unlikely in nz. yeah that does look like a silver. at a glance looked like a normal silver, should have clicke don photo:D
  9. i dont believe anyof those are albino. here is a link of an albino red arowana. very pricey. hard to get actually. http://www.google.co.nz/imgres?imgurl=h ... =116&ty=58
  10. yes, true:) albinos are too expensive lol
  11. there is no reason to not love it! its awesome! aros rock!!!! :happy1: oh yeah..... i want to collect all available species in nz one day:D its actually an obsession of mine now lol i have black aro, rtg and jardinii now. next is red. then a silver/green comm tank one day. then if i have more money, maybe get a fancier gold variant perhaps. or try to source an ALBINO arowana.
  12. i want rays... nay i want all the aros, rays and large fish:D
  13. feeding, you can feed your fish as much as it wants to eat if your filtration is enough, water change enough. tecninically, they will eat what ever they can when ever they can in the wild. greens can grow faster and stronger cos they are a more wild species. less inbred. which means they are stronger genetically. the fancier ones, some claim to be stronger thorugh selective breeding but do not grow as fast. some have told me red is bigger than gold variants. but green is definitely the more monstrous one of the lot. herre is a link of my 1200Litre RTG tank. this fella is currently at 50cm plus, i think 52 ish to 53 but its difficult, and relaly i dont really measure it anymore lol it eats whole prawns with head, tannk and shell. I cut the sharp bits off, i stuffed its food with massivore all its life. even til now if i am not too lazy:D i also put it into a tanning regime when it was 2 years old by putting numerous power glos on the tank. this tank is linked to another 1200LItres, total system is 2500. small sump no room. i do a total of 120 to 130% water change a week.
  14. That fish may even be from the batch where david got his aro from. to be honest, i am not aware of any new shipment at all, meaning if it is, then that is definitely stutned. it can still get large, but shape wont be as nice, maybe not as large long term but thats ok. its still a nice fish, just not as nice as it could have been. with good water, food care, it will grow nicely and still reap rewards in terms of having a nice aro:) at least its not hunchback! davids green was huge, solid! my rtg has definitely slowed down in growth in terms of llength, but girth, its still getting bigger slowly but surely. I think dimensions is extremely important for aros. wider is better. instead of 60, do 70 or 80. height isnt as much of an issue, 60 is ok i think, 70 is better. long term, 180 gallon is not enough, but, i think for a couple to few years, its ok. if its by itself, i think it could do ok as it will have plenty of space. i have seen asian aros in 180g to 200g tanks, growing spectacularly large and healthy. but they are alone also. as long as the fish doesnt have to do a 3 point turn, thats is key! if its does, tank is too small lol or if the width of tank is same as length of fish.... then thats a no no.
  15. scales heal no worries. sunnynook. do you get your water from Okura resevoir or the forrest hill one? or even the northcote one? cos mine is definitely around 7 ish, doesnt get much higher.
  16. yeah, my fiance is not chinese.... i dont buy into that, she certainly doesnt:D tried it... didnt work 8) nah its ok i will set up a proper tank, filtration, lights, then i get one. will pass this one up.
  17. no!! damn you leprechaun! :bounce:
  18. all good then. all the boxes are ticked:) and you have your shiz sorted! i think the aro should be fine:D feel it well, shrimp is good. shrimp with pellets stuffed in it. OR pellets even better. morning pellets, evening shrimp. i stuff shriimps with massivore:D yum yum! awesome, aros are awesome! they are a regal fish to keep
  19. pics would be cool! arowanas are the best fish to keep. cos they get large and eat large objects. anyway, what size tank by the way? filter configuration ?
  20. agreed, weird that nitrate is zero. Amonia , Nitrite zero is all cool but nitrate.... ph is a little high for an arowana. should be around the 7s. but, the mouth movement can mean many things. arowana will at an extend always have a movement in the mouth like breathing, like most if not all fish. BUT, if its pronouced and the fish is lethargic, thats a problem. was it eating, did you ask to see it eat? if you saw it eat with zest, i wouldnt worry for now, could be stress. check your water again. temp should be 27 - 29 celcius. ph should be around 7. but arowanas willa dapt to 8 ish, but preferred 6 to 7 ish ph. in terms of your water parameters, measure again, nitrate being zero doesnt make sense. im not trying to be difficult, but some have said their water is perfect here and asking why their fish is sick, but relaly... we all know the water isnt perfect. a high ph means that your tank could be new, perhaps even uncycled. straight out of the tap - as some areas in auckland have higher ph. Albany, shore is always around 7 to 7.2 out of tap. south or west, not sure - heard sometimes its higher. if your tank is uncycled, you WILL face issues. but doesnt mean its the end of your fish. it just means you hvae to manage it extremely carefully... pedantically and very closely. gill curl can disappear. should disappear wtih good water. if not, surgery may be needed to cut it off and let it grow back again, should be last resort. question, you have researched aros before i hope?
  21. stop the voices!! i can hear voices tellng me to do bad things..... 8)
  22. weird. why would someone bid for a fish worth 2200 and not research it. ....... i find that highly foolish!! mmmm relist.... will see lol
  23. either its new import or existing ones from way back. if its small probably new import. weird face? maybe a NAMI GREEN :nilly: http://www.google.co.nz/imgres?imgurl=h ... x=68&ty=45 doubt it:D i want a green, i want a green/silver comm 3 silvers, 3 greens:D one day maybe, but i wanna collect the whole set of arowanas avail in nz.
  24. it took me a couple of months to hunt down and track down "closet breeders" lol breeders who dont advertise, breeders who dont post or not even known to anyone here. i found a few. one had his entire garage lined with insulation - so many tanks with literally hundreds if not thousands of babies, plus a large amount of breeders, strains that you probably have never seen in this country. then when you meet one, you meet a few, and more:D cost? well.... you are looking at 100 to 250 per fish, the bigger they are, the clearer the strain and colour, the more expensive. baby discus you get for 50 bux in the LFS probalby cost the LFS 10 dollars, some may be good bloodlines, but most are just babies from anyone who breeds them perhaps. specific strains of discus are very expensive
  25. any apartment building that cant support 550kg shoudl not be lived in. in fact, get 8 people to stand over in a little corner, if thats fine, then a tank is fine. I would say, most if not all apartment buildings that are made of concrete can support even a 2000 litre tank. If it collapses and falls through, thats not your fault. the building insurance should pay for it unless your agreement states no heavy tanks
