HOLY GRAIL - what is your holy grail type of tank and fish
henward replied to henward's topic in Freshwater
no when i buy house ill build one in the garage, fully insulated, probably a heat pump is more efficient. i want the whole ladder on the side to climb into it:D it will definitely be an aro comm!! a lot of clown loaches, bichirs, multiple eels - and as many different species of fancy plecs i can get that gets over a certain size:D and ... i want a massive piece of wood, maybe an entire manuka tree lighting will be LED overhead, it will be open top with a glass wall surrounding the whole top area with branches on top so the aros can jump and get live food ifthey want, and jump as much as they need to. hard to explain -
Superworms: I dont understand y its illegal
henward replied to henward's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
lol what can i say to that:D im sure someone here from that side of work can elaborate that rationale behind it. i can understand if we live in a country like miami, warm and tropical ish. but not NZ! -
Itwould be absolutely awesome to have this here, legal. I wonder what the rationale is can this species even survive in the NZ wild? i believe its too moist here, too cold for them to even at all explode in population let alone breed in the nz natural climates here. anyway, im struggling to find freeze dried superworms even! anyone know a source?

i see, i get it! see i understand that:D makes sense. also sves on the cost of glass you probably wont need as thcik. silicone joines will more than be sufficient to hold water in. awesome idea! i want a tank like that one day -
interesting int he short time i have had the aro and feeding it up wtih the varied diet. it has certainly grown and body has put on weight already. its starting to show somewhat of a spoonhead ... very slightly not the exxagerated ones that they have online, i dont like that. but i noticed, all the scales except the top row of scales are starting to blush of orange on the tips. colour change is definitely taking place already! im looking forward to putting on journal photos in another month or two

this is what tank i want haha -
lol i think back now, i still remember it clearly. but i dont generally remember that much from that time it was a silver aro :slfg:
-
i reckon if you add 3 more, total fo 4, you will be ok. they will hve some fights to begin with, thats natural. but what will hapen is that they wont know who to attack and fend off, thats why numbres work so well. same wtih most agro fish. numbers is key
-
haha the obsession tapers off, and becomes a slightly inclination to discuss aros:D i just got my vip so im super excited. but i have always been into aros. remember my first aro when i was 6, i did a wc, iw as in philippines, didnt age the water and died ... i tried to give it mouth to mouth lol lol :sml1: anyway, yeah, its ok to be obsessed, all good :happy1: i cant stop thoughts of an xb lol
-
yeah my aro loves swimmign nito the outlet jets. its almost like they play. it likse swimming past it constantly and against it head on.
-
i guess i have one, a sun sun, very good, and very poweful. it will certainly create current in the tank.
-
that is a bit much gill curl wont go - it will stick around, only way to fully rid of it is to sedate, and operate. iw ould just lave it. gill curl is not gonna impede on aros life, its there, its just part ofi t. now you can give it good care and avoid the other gill from curling. but if you reallyw ant, king will be able to help you wtih sedation lol and just you tube vids of operating on aros lol illhelp if you want:P will be interesting! then you cut the curl and it grows back normally but then again i dont see a point to be honest. yeah tanning a green, not sure if it will do anything. i reckon greens look cool under very bright white light, they almost have a silver sheen and shine to them.

I liek the combo of bioballs and ceramic noodles - but really the cheap ceramic noodles are not that high in surface area. you are paying less but filtration capacity is also less. so weight for weight, i still reckon efi substraet, JBL balls, even aqua one cerami sub is way better in terms of capacity vs cost ratio. just seems mroe expensive. but if you need bulk to fill a large space, i reckon go with sintered glass by that down under place. they sell sacks of it, and they are very reasonable for the price, i us them too. theya re not that porous though compared to the branded stuff. i would also check out the warehouse and buy 1 or 2 dollar body scrubs (loufers) i dont know how to spell. get a bulk of that, they are extremely good.

yeah, im impatient too, but i get joy in seeing the fish grow and scales develop!n its weird, i sometimes sit there and find i been watchin the fish for 30 mins lol just trying to spot the odd extra scale colouring up. im taking another photo of the red july as part of my colour development diary, im curious what it looks like as i see the fish daily. its better to have photos. your green will get huge, with that growth, thats amazing! massivore baby!
-
lol yeah, fishie, if you dont want your goldfish anymroe, ill take them we can sort out a trade for sand perhaps lol
-
tis possible. good water, lots and lots of food! big tank, its doable. my rtg was 55 cm, max size in aquaria is supposed to be around 60cm. tip to tip was 55cm ish. that took only 3.5 years. i reckong your green will reach at least 50cm, whcih is still very big! i really am hoping my red can get to past 60cms! i want a cranking monster:D then upgrade the tank to a bigger one, mroe bichirds, more clowns, moer eels, more apolo shark, more parrots, more archers and mroe aros:D haha

Arowana is hesitant on live locusts... how weird!
henward replied to henward's topic in Rare and unusual fish
i reckon they form a recognistion qucikly when is feeding time lol mine is starting to get crazy when i stand there to feed:D -
i didnt think i was gonna win it!! lol no, these are defective gold fish. not for breeding i bid for it, though, if i get per piece at 80 cents. there is 140, if i feed 2 a week maybe 3, this will last me 1 year!! so ita cheap investment, its easy to gut load gold fish:D was gonna breed but looking at effort vs cost - this is actually very chep and easy. if no one buys my 1200litre im gonna rig up the 1200litre to a freshwater gold fish raising tank for my aro food:D lol coupel of internal filters and few sponge filters should do it.

60 is for 380 grams from hff they dont sell the kg bags yet. eventually im sure they will, like they do with hikari sticks in kg bags but ify ou parallel importi t, you will still pay 90 to 100 dollars per kg if you include shipping and conversin if you knwo someone going to us, you can get it shipped to them and pay 60 to 75nzd perkg. whcih is a great bargain!
-
wow i am unsure, but you got yours from bird barn and initially we feared it was stunted. wtih that growth, i believe othewise!! that is awesome growth, you cant get much better than that. you willf ind though after reaching 40cm, your growth will taper no matter what to probably half that. green is more wild and tend to grow better though from what i have seen and read. but awesome!!

henward replied to henward's topic in Rare and unusual fish
ahh i figured out when i leave the arowanas sight, it eats the locust i believe it thinks im gonna give it other types of food and gets distracted. i also started putting the locust on the other end, it climbs on the wood that sticks out of the water then it actually takes it out of the top of the wood, prefers it that way! ate 5 locusts this morning:D hahaha
