  1. thats taken with a flash here is one with just inside tank lighting. much nicer I would either like that black base OR malaysian blue base http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=460904&page=2 check this out wow, photos are for real from what i gather!!! unbelievable!!!
  2. yeah, im just investigating took me 3 years to finally get a VIP, researched and posted on line forums and did lots of questions, some of them got annoyed at me but hey, i just wanna learn asm uch as possible I like a couple, one is called "BLACK GOLD XB" the other is the Blue base too. i love the BLue base Not sure what Arowana king imports in terms of gold i know he has a VIP XB, whcih looks amazing, small fish yet the gold shine is already quite full, the scales are getting gold. Not sure if he is able to get blue base malaysians or BLack Gold XB i guess when the time comes, ill ask him or who ever is importing them at the time
  3. OK i have analysed my own video. first point it is unfair to use that video you posted of my RTG as that video was posted Nov 23 2009. the rtg was very young, just about 18 months approx. much smaller. XB and REDS colours come out as they reach adulthood, the older the more colourful though some claim reds colours come and goes..... but from what i have seen, this isnt the case.... maybe different in each case. This video is one i took 4 days before i sold the arowana oficially. This was taken when the tank was set up and filters have cleared the water. there isnt a massive difference but you will see that a large proportion of my ex rtg the scales are much fuller. the comparison video, that fish' scales are speckled. But in saying that, it is a 5th level RTG whcih is a better genetics to mine, as to why the gold is not as solid is beyond me. You will clearly see mine has a very solid brown layer on top of the fish and pretty much ending the shine from the 4th row of scales. the comparison video is ALMOSt crossing over whcih is indicative of 5th level xb i dont know which one is better, i think my fuller scales win, but the extra row of scales is good, almost looking like an xb but not quite. the scales on my rtg i think is shinier - as it is fuller more light reflects. but the contrast of the scales vs the base in the comparison video i like. \\ if you pause 20 seconds in teh comparison video, you will see, there is a definite base colour. that looks nice as it provides contrast - i kinda like it, but it can be regarded as 'not full shine or gold' whcih is apparently desirable for golds. if you puase on 43 - 45 seconds in my video that i just posted, the fish just ha a much yellower shine. its hard to tell. i prefer my fish cos the scales are fuller but the extra row of gold is good too. but i rather have a nice rtg than an ok 5th level rtg i guess. I think after a couple or few years, i will get meself an xb. i am starting to investigate now of which one i want. note, few years:D or else i will be divorced soon... :slfg:
  4. I AM NO EXpert at all with this have no idea what is in the venom lol sounds like myth but hey
  5. SECRET I HAVE SIGNED A GAG AGREEMENT FROM THE BUYER
  6. ill check and critique my one too:D thanks for the feedback though nex ttime we compare the red
  7. centipede venim is deadly only when taken in through blood. similar to snake venom you can drink snake venom and some even claim there is a health benefit to it, though nothing has been studied i dont think. maybe this is similar, facto r superstition, dont nkow. most venoms are deadly when mainlined, through stomach usually destroys the poison, centis are the same i think. there could be truth in the venom providing some amino acids unique to it. but how do they know that? and is it true?
  8. Ill check it when i get home, will be intresting. when you say extra scale do you mean extra row of scales, the 5th row? my one is definitely a 4th level RTG, meaning the gold stops at the 4th level. a 5th level RTG, if thats what you mean by extra scale of gold is a hybrid with 4th level RTG and a xb - so the genetics is indeed superior to mine.
  9. fair enough i just wasnt willing to take it after hhearing things. you have been using iron sand for 4 to 5 years?
  10. well apparehtly, the POINSON is the key. according to what i read, the poison in centis is what makes the aro red, so you DO want the poinson lol i would be curious as to the scientific backing behind it or is it myth and legend
  11. i mean acidic water will react wtih iron sand not sure if its true but sounds plausible lol so didnt wanna risk it
  12. which pleco gets the largest out of the commons? red spot, common plec and sailfin? are they all diff species? just wondering scientific names of common plecs that gets huge
  13. funny salmon fillets is extrremely good for arowana. it has all the vitamins they need, good fats plus axanthin is high on them. salmon when on sale is only 21.99 per kg, almost same price as prawn!! there is more axanthin in salmon than prawn!! its all science, myth and legends from overseas that say PRAWN ONLY PRAWN ONLY is very much myth. very interesting, at work i get bored at times so i just red nutritional data, man im a geek! anyways another interesting one (for those who care lol) ill type it out anyways advantage crix versus locust crix naturally has more calcium, but locust has more protein. and crix can be gutloaded way easier. but generally speaking, one or the other will have good benefits. ATTENTION DAVID R: answer for you centipede APPARENTLY has a good advantage, centis are venomous, the venom apparently makes arowana red. that is the reasoning behind it. to answer your question a few days back:D now, here is the intersting part. Myth or fact? well, centipede venom varies dramatically from species to species. Now in asia, what species do they feed? there are so may types. venom is closely related to bees and wasps. if you are allergic to them, then you will bea allergic to centis. Some centis will kill, some will make you itch for days and weeks. some will make you feel very uncomfortable, just like spiders and snakes. so.... do we know what centipede really does? the husk of a centipede is probably undigestible, but if its similar to prawn, then it may be of benefit. prawn shell actually has some goodies in it! anyways, just intersting stuff:D on a tangent the red goes absolutely crazy wtih mealworms, i took about 1000 mealworms and put it in a tub of pellets im not gonna use anymore, floating nls aro pellets, c gold and aqua one econo pellets. so they are gutloaded and feed to aro as a last feed .... no matter how full it is, it will consume it. seems worms is the aros absolute favourite!! not locusts lol
  14. amano has some hardcore gear! wow! one day perhaps, i may invest in something like that ..... wait i forgot to check my lotto ticket no really its awesome!! would love a fully natural looking massive monster tank!
  15. be careful for fish that dnt have iron sand as their habitat, it could cause problems, feedback i had is that they react to water when water becomes acidic. just a thought:D i didnt wanna take the risk
  16. thats an awesome fish tank, wonder how you get in and clean, trip plants etc?!?! awesome rays, would love that! with aros:d and slightly deeper
  17. not quite self sustaining for me. more so, that look is very natural. insects will go on the plants and fish will take them down but more so for the look, its nice.
  18. bishop that is the type of tank i want! but much larger in terms of scale. so there are plants where insects and stuff can reside lol looks very natural.
  19. wow my dream would be that tank - slightly larger, with clowns, discus, large aro comm, bichirs, lots of fancy plecs big or small... so when its feeding time they jsut come out. wonder if its maintainable with fish in it or just planted? i would in vest in a solar heating system for a tank like that. maybe solar tubes, and LED lights, low power, will pay off in the end.
  20. I reckon you can. you can pit it with heaters and shelters. theyw ill hibernate and baski n the lamp as they need to. i reckon you could.
  21. thats right when it comes to the hobby, we spend way more, not just on fish but on the ongoing costs too! eye fillet is cheaper than hikari:D
  22. yeah well, may not breed them, cheap enough to buy when people do, a bit of quarantine and done! live food just keeps the aro aggressive and hungry. just from what i have observed, locusts are good but nothing matches fish!
  23. when i buy a house, im gonna build a massive concrete tank:D you can help me david! lol
  24. its more fors stimulating the aro and for me:) but yes, i load the feeder with vitamins, seems that the aro doesnt like the taste and smell at all, so the gold fish is a good vessle just once or twice a week. im also gonna give small convicts a try - as treats. but the aros diet is so varied anyways, im going full on with the variety of food i give it, largely for the aros benefit, variety is the spice of life. but also i enjoy seeing the aro eat different things:D
  25. oh and a waterfall with fake rocks at the back! so the filter inlet is the waterfall!
