The permitted list has about 50 or more named by us and accepted to the list..Problem is singapore breeders have given them a bad name just like live breeders that die in quarantine.or shortly after .They are carring a virus that kills ever quickly ...My understand from MAF is that they want a pre quarantine in the country of export That will never happen as our buying is to small for them to bother...P

In NZ we can just go by the MAF listing as been checked by Erma and names given by myself and peru Its evey easy to claim new names but to authorities is what counts.Or you cant import them

Actually ill teach you something...If you had bothered to look at where the listing on planetcatfish came from you will find that he listed them under the latin family of...Take note............Loricariidae...........You can change sub names all you like but note the true latin family.............I have been in fish for over 45 years and most of the new additions on the MAF list came from me after about 90 hours of work with no thanks....... Hi Just because someone again changes name and planetcatfish show listings...If in deed are registered as this....Forget it as MAF here will not accept the new name till changes are made to the permitted list... Could be years ago going by the past.. But as you saw the Peru was listed as that...Not lancelota and thats what this is really all about.. In fact i have 18 Pairs and have breed about 200 and are all over nz and if breeding secrets are not know then ..Well a long time to catch on...Cheers And good fish keeping...Enough about this any way...Phill

Rineloricaria lanceolata ...........Thats the New latin name..Old going back years ago also was Ancistrus.spp That took in all in the family....So many name changes as they regroup fish.. They came wild fish from the Amazon via Peru..The name as thrown around all of NZ as R Lanceolata My research shows them to be bigger so i have always follow peru name as R...Black as beleive they were a new find in the wild... Think MAF to have followed that name... They are due to breed and time again and just 2 young left at about 3 cm.... Cheers Phill Collis

Age is never known on free glass..It can actually fail.....Glass over time gets thin at the top and thicker at the bottom if very old and also becomes very brittle... I rememeber a huge shop window i was helping to take out blew up in front of my eyes...Just went straight down as the bottom fell to bits Talk about a heart attack..Well if it had come down on an angle i might not be doing this post I have now thrown bricks into at least 300 shop fronts...Then machines cleans up the mess... All tank manufactures myself included on use brand new glass...If no enginering report is done then manfacturer dont know what they are doing... I just made one for my accountant of years past at 1.9x 600 x 1 meter high in new 15mm clear glass.. Cheers and forget free glass as your insurance will not cover it...Cheers Phill Collis

Hi I have several pcs that have been sterilzed and re sunk..That can take a year..All native wood and collected all over the taupo river area's..Plus native puri from my place..2 meter tree died ? hundred years ago and just left moon wood as i call it..No tree remains so the others here are hundreds of years old.. Then growing java ferns on..From 1 meter down to 250mm A few on t.me but visiters can see others.. Not just a pcs of wood all have excellent shape and have sold some at 80 so if you have the loot..Come visit. Also dry wood of the beaches can still harbour bugs and to much salt thats hard to soak out..Cheers Phill Collis

Rotkeil are a german strain..Actually there is only a green and all the rest are just like Discus and line breed...None of mine are old enough to see red but no sign of golden male in them.. Simple Males Have snake skin marking all over the face.. Was easier to actually ask me....Phill

Hi You can alway kill flow by turning upwards spray bar so will not make and current.. Tomorrow we lift a 2000 x 800 x 750 mm High 15mm thick glass and set up a Aquis 2450 UV-C Power filter thats got UV Build in.. Its about 11 to 1500 L and hour and using an under bench 2 kw unit to pre-heat the water then through the mighty filter... I mean mighty because of the uv... Cheers Phill Collis

Problem is camera's cannot measure the depth of field in water and needs to find the back round.. Try in a small photo tank thats only 40mm front to back and and just 3mm glass.. Then you can play with different colour back rounds..Shade over head and sides and play around..usually works.. Dont think a 1000 dollar camera is any better in water just maybe the person doing settings...Cheers Phill

Hi The sum of 100 x100 meters = 100000 square meters..Divided by your 450 sq m means that's about 22 nd size of a foot ball field.. Dont sound right some how...Maybe sq mm....... Becides i use Pumis Sand thats totally hollow .......... Work out 1200 x 500 at say 50mm..........Its huge... Base filteration is also use to grow plants as a 5mm think nylon pad stops roots blocking and they just go sideways.........Phill

Hi Comments are strange considering i have plants from all over NZ thats going it a 1000L clients tank in a couple of weeks.. The likes of pine tree and about 10 others are just leaded and sitting on the bottom of 270 L are growing so fast its really not believable..Just 2 flying foxes..there job is to keep clean.. Just whats in the water is food..Plus the lighting thats natural. Becided the Chinese have been keeping fish with out any filteration for over a 1000 years and today most large scale systems dont have more than air moving the water... The bactrica dont just live in filters but ever part of water and including on the glass and RIGHT through the base /wood/plants. I have a few small 8 & 40 L tanks that have zip but sand and fish and plants do well..Not even air.. Its not the filteration that keeps nitrates down but fresh water.. i over the years have tried many a power filter and found in my view that unless they have the UV the are no better than good old UG filters that cost a few bucks and yes the Whole tank floor can be and in most cases will be filter... What about marine..We used to make the back of the tank also just like a sump...Air Powered. I have been testing for not 4 years but more like 40... If sumps are running several tanks then usually just a matter of time before problems start..Phill

Hi I have 124 tanks that are all under gravel filters...All averaging 250 L many are 300 L Not a power filter is used any where..WHY you will ask.. Because what what was used before Marketing Claimed they were better.. Well rubbish..Just a modern way of taking $ of Ya... Also another way to get sparks up your back side..People have DIED from heaters and Power Heads/Filters. The base of any tank is usually far greater in area that a power filter that you would use.. A sump is just become the same thing.. At say 50mm deep substrate then its thousands of times greater area and runs off simple air pump that has no water contact.. Facts is its where bacteria can live..Larger the bigger the filteration.......Phill

You had better get new glass as i have put mine are 100mm.. 10cm or 4 inches..you must know one of them ..The web i put has at nine and a half inches..Thats 240mm...
