I find this interesting....I have seen people leave razor blades in there tank. I personally have a rusty circlip holding one of my hoses on to a pump in my sump as we speak. I dont seem to be expoeriencing any problems and in fact have a couple of Chimeras corals which are repairing and are colouring up.
I dont think rust would be the issue, but maybe it has another alloy in the bearing. How rusty is this bearing?
Best way to test this situation is to do the following.
1: Take a test reading of alk
2: Take a test reading of MG
3: Take a test reading of Ca
If all low then add the following directly to the overflow:
4: Add 2 x baking cups of straight MG chloride
5: Wait one hour and add 6 tablespoons of BS
6: Wait one hour and add 2 x baking cups Ca.
(All straight down the overflow as raw powder)
RE TEST 36 HOURS LATER AND POST RESULTS.
Should raise ALK by about 4
Should raise Ca by about 60
Should raise MG by about 60
If it hasnt changed to aroung these levels, then your test kits have to be faulty.
Ikg per week BS....holy moly, something is wrong there dude. I know you have a big tank, but that is a lot.
I have hundreds of corals most SPS and only consume 8 Tablespoons a week. Are you running corals or frags in your sump systems?
Double check you havent got a leak somewhere and the tank is being topped off with topup supply removing the mag etc from the tank. Check your Salinity dude.
1kg of ALK is shitloads too, sounds like a leak perhaps.
I have 250 watt units i will flick for $130.00 bucks.
Grown some great SPS with them....Taking up garage space.
Let me know....(No bulbs, but have some 2 month old ones also....
Nice
The frag I got of that one is super rapid too. Very fast species that one.
Mine has nearly doubled in 6 weeks. plus fragged it twice already!!
Looking good dude.
Reactors have there place.
I dont use one because reactors cant keep up with heavy demanding corals.
You would have to manually adjust oftyen anyway with one of the main chemicals.
If I couold get a fully auto reactor that guaranteed levels I would definitely use one.
Vodka is a very good tool IMO.
As you can see it has its purposes for temporary tank cleaning and if used permanently should be dosed sparingly.
I swear by it.
