Twice I have had cyano/diatoms, tried cheaper vodka, nothing happened. Changed to Smirnov and hey presto hallakazoo...GONE!! Proof enough for me, I have tested it. Scientific data means nothing. Nature has its own way of confusing things.

Puttputt, SMIRNOF TRIPLED DISTILLED is the best. I have tried them all. You will be all sweet with dosing 5ml in the morning and 5ml at night. Should be gone in 4-6 weeks if not earlier. When the cyano has gone you can continue with just the night dose of 5ml. Stop the morning dose. I run VODKA permanently at a rate of 5ml per night for my 1400 litre capacity. That equates to around just under 1/2 a ml per 100 litres. If cyano or diatoms return I up the dosage back to 10 ml per day.

Tee Em. Dont get caught up in all the apparatus until you have seen and know how the best systems work. That sump design is not needed for a reef tank. Keep it simple.

Another update. Managed to score a second hand DELTEC AP702 from a dude in Wellington. In great condition. Skims like a dream and very quiet. One happy customer this way of the woods. 2 x Eheim 1260s on this puppy. The deltec 1250 turbos are for sale!

at the above rate, no issues with mushies and zoos. The whitening I am refering to is basal whitening of acros. (Just small areas). If you notice some, stop for awhile and it returns. Im not sure of it is directly related, but its not a prob provided you keep an eye out. It has happened to me a couple of times. The Corals it happened to are still growing like mad and have returned to normal. It may just be a temporary lack of nutrients when it happens.

I have a beauty small CLOWN TANG for sale. $50.00 Agressive nature, but doesnt bite. May hassle yellow tangs, sailfin tangs and large clowns, but wont bite. If no one wants him My CONDY will have him for dinner. PUTTPUTT??? You dont have tangs do you?? He would be awesome in your tank. Fairly rare ti find good ones of these.
