  4. me and my brother went to a lfs once, and he wanted to get some apple snails. the staff member advised him not to get it because it will eat up all the plants. my brother insist and guess what? yup, within the next day all plants were destroyed. there is another way to have lots of plants in the tank without having apple snails demolish them. FAKE PLANTS lol

    skimmer

sounds great!!! what would a Deltec AP701 cost? how big is your tank?
  9. good link....now with that link...hopefully i can raise bbs to adulthood in 3 weeks!
  10. hmm...i wonder about filteration system. i doubt that a carbon freshwater filter would work on cold water marine . perhaps a skimmer?
  11. wow....some very nice strains there x matt x. love your fry setup.
  12. i have a better system in mind and think this would work. having done a lot of research on the net, a very popular system used by guppy hobbiest in Taiwan. with a in built UGF, stuff that sits on the bottom can then flow thru the 2nd outflow pipe. all the dirty stuff get suck into the gravel then out thru the 2nd pipe. but this would mean extra cost, as you are drilling 2 holes and every tank has its own UGF, pipes, taps etc. but i think it is great. i will try it out one day.
  13. oops. since it is summer. i didnt put a heater in the fishroom.
  14. plan A would work too. i can do that easily just by turning the tap on a little, so the tap remain at dripping state. by doing that i will end up with 100% waterchange and may be more!!! i thought plan A it is good at that time, but changing water 24hrs long with no heated water? the thing is, i dont think tropical fish will like that, with water condition fluatuates up and down. and the water is far too clean! haha, may be cold water fish like goldfish or minnow would love it and induce spawning. i personally get away with good clean water 10% daily is enough and thats fine. with this system you can use PLAN A and PLAN B. whichever you like
  15. oh no sorry about that. anyway, the test out tank works out really well. i never have to change the water. all i do is turn on the tap and it changes water by it self. with this i do daily water changes about 10%. one thing i am suffering is the algae growth and leftover food, poos at the bottom. but i got myself some big ramshorns to take care of that. i will be thinking of modifying the setup a bit, may be with some inbuilt undergravel filter and wait and see. i am on a bit of move lately, just arrived wellington yesterday. got myself an interview today, missed out on a really great job. not my fault anyway, the company did not manage to grab a big project. total bummer, therefore couldnt really get things to settle in at the moment. but i promise, the fish setup will be back. by the way, do you think you can get away with MTS easily huh? not a chance.

    Question:

yup. agree with Alan. Albino offsprings dont have black pigment in their gene. if you see a dark gravid or see little black eyes in their gravid. chances are there are no albino babies at all. what you want is blonde gravid spot i suppose.
  17. hi steve, the setup ceased because i have decided to move back to wellington.  the hole is 40mm away from the top. the hole is 22mm and 19mm irragation fittings found easily at mitre 10 Mega. cheers
  18. Lol.....Keri Anne...looks like your mad about albino guppies.
  19. wow. congrats. looks like the female had a good drop!!
  20. yup...thats the one i have been to. they are using geothermal ponds to heat up the pool.
  21. if you can do water change daily. that would be even better.
  22. I would say normally LFS guppies are around 3 months - 6 months age. depends what kind of shops. some even sells really young ones like babies. well...maybe not, that may have been babies that a female drop in there that survived. My guppy growth rate is about as follows. a month time - my guppys grow about 1.5cm 2 month time - colours showed up and matured to young adult 3 months - tails develop and ready to breed. from what i have read on net Guppies Growth = health + environment + nutrition thats the formula to remember. a maximum growth which is tightly linked to genetics, environment and feeding. Guppies with good genes has goodhealth, good appetite and overall good shape and tail size. they adapt with quite a range of water condition. but environment around 7-8 pH is good. Water quality has to be good. remove excess leftover food and do water change regulary. The crucial is the temperature. temperature difference with determine a slow or quick growth. other issue such as overcrowding in a small tank, growth may be stunted from the potential growth size. Regarding nutrition, you know it, it is the food they are consuming. Food scale range from dry and frozen products and live food. live food is good. but i prefer to use bbs as other cultures like fruit fly worms, microworms are limited when feeding to hundreds of guppies. they are foul the water easily too. bbs are easily hatched and you can determine how much food you need. Variety of food is the key. i feed my guppies flakes + bbs + spirulina. dont overfeed and keep the water clean and your guppies will grow up fast and strong in no time.
