clowns pulling food out of anemones tenticles
They think Yeah, I'll have some of that! So they grab it & then realise they just had breakfast. I've got a long thin stick I use to guard the anemone with till his food is safe.

Sump return pumps
Jeroen you are correct in your assessement that your return pump is a little small. A good rule of thumb is that the return pump should pump the volume of the main tank around 5 x's per hour. I think taking into account the head pressure yours will do a little more than 2 x's per hour. Having said that, there will no doubt be successful tanks running return rates of less than 5 x's, but when you're getting down close to 2 x's, considering that not each and every bit of water will pass through the sump, and by the skimmer 2 x's per hour, it will result in lower water quality, especially if you wish to carry a high bioload. However this will certainly enable you to get started, you could probably use this pump for a while, until you come across or can afford a better one.

nudibranch help
If it's a nudi not a slug it's unlikely it eats weed. Might luck out with an ID if you posted a pic on the sea slug forum. Otherwise who knows, could eat anything from certain type of anemone to other nudis. If you cannot get an ID probably the only way would be to dump some stuff in the tank from the rock pool & see if you can observe it eat anything.

Awesome tank of the quater (in zeoland)
There's everything from DSB's to BB running zeovit. Zeovit is simply an add on water filtration system, can be used with any substrate.

Bubble eye.. on my clown fish
Often related to poor water quality, and or insufficient gas exchange at water surface, allowing bacerial infection, or excess nitrogen.

nudibranch help
There is a heckuva lot of them and can be very difficult to ID. A good bet will be to use this site http://www.seaslugforum.net/ However most nudibranches are predatory and often very prey species specific, so they can be a problem to keep as they will either starve, or eat something in your tank you where trying to grow. Perhaps his prey would have been in the immediate surroundings where you caught him?

Full tank shot thread
Yes, those xenia certainly are fraggable. Just watch that hairy mushroom, looks like he may eventually get bigger and will reach out & sting some of those nearby corals. More I look at those pics the better I like it, very nice set up.

Brianemone's 504"litre" sps reef
It may be a little off topic, but here is an interesting article taking a look from a modern perspective, at some of the older filtration methods, although IMO even this article is now out of date. Still interesting read though http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_2/ ... ration.htm

Brianemone's 504"litre" sps reef
I think Control is into what were called algae turf scrubbers. The one I saw ( many years ago ) used hair algae. Control may do it different, but the one I saw had a large shallow pan, over which highly aerated water flowed. Hair algae was growing in the pan in a dense mat, and was shaved off periodically. The pan was more brightly lit than the tank, to encourage faster growth of hair algae in the scrubber, than in the tank.

Skimmer test , Beckett
I have and am using an Aqua C ( Remora Pro ). Not as good as the needlewheel skimmers although they were highly rated overseas when they first came out. They skim rather wet due to the chaotic reaction chamber and uneven bubble size. They are adjustable but if you set it too dry you will get poor performance.

anemone at night
Very Cool! Like the way they snuggle into the anemone at night for a sleep.

What is this algae?
As a last ditch effort before chucking the whole thing, try this it will work. Get a bottle from the lfs of that algae cure they use for fresh water tanks, it's only about 3 bucks. Remove the rock, and drip the algae cure directly onto the algae. Then leave the rock out of the water for 1/2 hour. Then let rock soak in a bucket with tank water for a few hours. Then rinse several times and put back in tank. This method will kill the algae, it will die over the next few days. However it may also kill some corals although zoos are usually OK. So it should only be a last resort. If you do get any algae rid in the tank, despite the rinsing, it will make the skimmer go nuts.

Free white xenia
 I love the humor & subtle understatements on this board! I'll take you up on it Alois in your case I'd better make a house call And Chimera I'll make sure to save you some.

Free white xenia
Only if you can spare a frag Chimera I know how gut wrentching it is breaking a bit off an acro we've been carefully growing for a long time!

Skimmer test , Beckett
They're German made, they are hand made even the pumps, hence the expense. Apparently the workmanship & quality are superb.

Skimmer test , Beckett
Ha Ha that's funny about the titanium, when they first came out the titanium was supposed to be the big secret behind the performance. There were a bunch of posts on overseas boards with theories how the titanium might achieve this, such as saying it imparted a charge to the bubbles, etc.

Free white xenia
Currently have a big mess of it I'm going to prune, free to anyone who will collect. It will not be attached to anything though. A small donation of some kind of frag would be gratefully recieved in exchange but if this is not possible no worries.

Alois just curious about that BK you trialled a few months ago, they were going to adjust flow through rate as per your suggestion. Did anything come of that? How do you rate the BK now?
