  1. Thats heaps. I don't think you could do to many water changes. Most books recommend 10-20% once a month so you are doing well.

    Skimmer

Boy, you just poured gas on the fire. You can set your tank up a hundred different ways. If you want a skimmer then you are probably better of having a sump so it is out the way. Due to your tank dimensions you also have the problem of low surface area compared to water volume. The sump will help overcome this. I am 99.9% positive that the tank is not toughened glass. You could use a wear which would clip on the tank, then you would not need to drill. If you are going to drill, I would drill the back panel and not the bottom. If it cracks when they drill (not likely to happen) it will be easier to repair. It will also mean that you don't have to mess around with your stand. I assume it is an Aqua One stand.
  3. I would get rid of the undergravel filter in the sump and the angled divider. I would have a divide 10cm from one end and a second 10cm from that. The water would then go down, up and then into the main part of the sump.
  4. More fibre, im not kidding. Are you using a vegetable based flake?
  5. Biggest problem with websites/online stores is that they suck up money like a sponge. My dad built and maintains our site so I get it at cost. If I had to pay real $$$ I wouldn't have bothered. Generally you have to have the lowest price. Online shoppers seem to be very price sensitive. Worst case for the wholesaler is retail stores not stocking their product because of online retailing. That is not likely to happen. Personally, I won't use suppliers that supply The Warehouse, but that is just me.
  6. You could just use a surface skimmer on the cannister. Aqua One used to do as cheap on $20-40 I think.
  7. I like mushrooms and finger corals..... Trade Me effects EVERY business selling something (legal anyway). If it killed the LFS stores stocking fish then it would kill the whole industry. It won't. Top of the line fish maybe. I have sold four lots of dog treats on trade me this week. Long term the idea is to direct those people to my own website. I just use trade me as a great tool to do that. Look how much top of the line gear you guys buy direct from overseas. That hurts the industry just as much.

  10. Carbon dust can irritate corals big time if it gets lose in the tank. If not wet prior to going in the water it can suck up alot of oxygen. If your water is real yellow the cabon would remove it (quickly if you used alot) which could light shock the corals. Like replacing old bulbs with new.
  11. Might try the angle grinder with a masonary cutter.

  14. Hmmm, might give the rusty screw driver and axe a miss. Cut required is to deep for a dremal.
  15. Can anyone suggest a good tool for cutting up a large LPS? I have a large pearl bubble with three heads and it is time to remove the smaller two. I have tried hacksaws in the past with poor results. I need to cut through about 10cm of rock.
  16. How about a list of places to get stuff/that stock stuff. e.g. for Auckland would be: Stores that stock marines. Jansens -Mt Eden Hollywoods - Mt Eden and Albany Massey Pet and Aquarium Pet Planet Whangaparaoa (real soon) Stores that will order in. Goldfish Pagoda Place to get black egg crate, plumbing parts, all the odd bits people ask about. We could have a national list, NZ online and overseas online store.

    Hey all

The 620T holds 130 litres. IMO not the best shape for marines since the are tall. There will be no easy way to add a protien skimmer as the filter/light hood system is not designed to take one.
  18. I guess it depends on what you are doing with your substrate. If it a deep sand bed you would want to leave it alone. I vacuum but my substrate is about 3cm deep. I also turn it over regularly with my hand or a baster. Keeps it nice and white and stimulates my sun polyps to open for feeding.

    Big Blue

I have another smaller one in my tank as home aswell. Great fish. Algae eating machines, though you need a Yellow tang or similiar to really mow the stuff down short.

    Big Blue

Just coz I like it. Thats what I call blue.
  21. Yes it is an urchin. Who the hell does a water change at 4am?
  22. Hey nodle, do you feed your sun polyps very often? (backgroud of last photo). If not, try blasting the rocks and sand near them with a baster about 10 minutes before the lights go out. The silt will stimulate them to open for feeding.
  23. Ben, don't stress the tank will be fine.
  24. Nothing to do with fish, but I know a guy that sold a budgie and cage set up once. Everything you could need. Great sale. Two weeks later the buyer comes back and says the budgie die. Turns out it starved to death. The one thing he forgot to sell him was seed!
  25. Anemone maddness!!!! Cool.... Very little lighting.
