  1. bring it along to a reef club meeting. I have gone colorimeter because i do not like trying to interperit how blue a sample is, I would rather let the laser diode do it. I have always been impressed with the limits of these hobby test kits, just not impressed with the requirement of the user to interperit the colours reliably. and at the end of the day, i want reliable, repeatable scientic test results. your tank looks good and you may be able to accurately interperate the results better then me. I like scientific toys too!

whats the PH Temp Alkalinity Calcium Salinity Phosphate levels how have these been trending........ I am trying to establish if this has a simple water based cause, when I started I totally underestimated the importance of checking everything..... Also Whats the Phosphate level in your RO/DI type evaporation make up water.... Fish can take an incredible ammount of "abuse" rock and corals so much less..... there is so much when starting Lighting circulation skimming fish coral compatibility water change routine ca,mg,salinity,ph, on and on, its easy to get TOO focused on a few and start to ignore something else, which can be ok for a while but the cumulative effects starts to impact the closed system..... I cannot say enough personally tho to regular 10-15% water changes....
  3. busted... though i think this guy wants good money for the pump, bet his reserve is over $300. he relisted this auction after not getting bids with a much higher buy now, then his reserve was $700 be a good return pump for the fish side of my Maf thingy not going to drop $300 on it tho Mark - why are you bidding against yourself?
  4. I am happy to almost bet my first born, that three other men and their dogs will be involved with the supply chain of the iwaki, making it your inship cost from the US + 150% but they do add such amazing value... for an order in item  they hold em on site... all those spares bah hahahahahaha

my tank is laser cut....... looking at it over the weekend gotme thinking but laser cutting was not open to ask questions...... The cool thing is once the DXF is done and they have tinkered... They could cut these things "on demand" this has an almost german precision engineering ring to it   I think DIY has just got "A WHOLE LOT EASIER!"

starting to think North Shore Laser Cutting here, they can cut 10mm clear no probs, from a DXF file they can just setup and go..... (thanks for the lead Chimera!) That would be cool as they could cut out circullar shaps etc etc etc all the holes could be cut then just a glue job.......

http://www.bayplastics.co.uk/product%20 ... ch(bending).htm found this on the annealing process.....
  13. if i wanted balanced flow I would probably go the t method.... but then again, given your closed loop etc etc, return flow as a toal % not that critical........ Prob be easier to service the LHS option if needed. Peter

IRA It is very likely that my first cut will be pretty much a copy of Pies skimmer..... simply because it will be quicker to get a two pump one built and in test..... and a little cheaper as well.... Could be a deal... I build you a skimmer and you help me build some tanks!

I am going to use flat sheet clear 10MM acrylic, this is 2400mm x 1200mm @ 215.22+gst trade... sides of the reaction chamber are going to be 800mm high by 300mm wide, it will give the reaction chamber 27% more volume then the big deltec but more importantly this will cost only $100 for the main chamber, be clear AND allow me to use standard flat through fittings which is going to make things SO much easier here is an interesting design made of flat acrylic http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=371055

This the 2000 Euro's version........ for my pumps Should I buy a large stepdown transformer off tradme then use 115V USA pumps.... I can get therse for $89 ish already with needle wheel impeller in them...... (postage extra) Or should I go Ehiem and cut a deal with someone...... Pies "raves" about ehiems and I agree but the already modified needle wheels have a lot of appeal, and $89usd is quite good too! Peter

  18. I think Litres would prob give people a better idea of the scale of someones setup......... or at least its ability to carry bioload etc. Peter

  20. imagine how hard diving would be... the sea stretches for thousands of miles... the pressure at 10m might kill you    or if you swam into a pointy cave on the sea bottom ouch......

  23. stroke of luck, I have managed to get Autocad files for my house / section etc , which will make both the MAF and the council applications "a lot" easier. My MAF application already runs to about 15 pages, and thats just site application not Q manual. The great thing about putting it on paper is you have to consider what will actually work in practice Peter
  24. so how do they get in?

    oops...

I use a huge internal diameter hose when changing water it syphons out a 25L container in about 20 seconds! keeps the mind focused! still i layout two big old blankets onto the floor before doing anything involving water and mop off saltwater mess afterwards..... best investment ever having this as you can syphon out sand without blocking the hose! I hate that.
