  8. I have the filter wool first to stop the other media clogging. I have also balanced a fish net above the filter wool and below the inlet to stop duck weed going through the sump. It seems to be working well
  9. I like reading books too but they go out of date fairly quickly. Why not go to your library and see what they have got? Cheers
  10. And for those living outside of Christchurch who find water ager too expensive - you can always age the water naturally by leaving it in a bucket for a day or two
  11. Hi and welcome. You are so lucky living in a city with such great fish shops. Cheers
  12. If the tank has only been running for 3 weeks it won't have fully cycled. Sorry, I am not very technical and I'm sure someone here will provide a better explanation but cycling is the time it takes for the good bacteria to build up in a filter. When there are enough good ones they gobble up the bad ones! Because it hasn't cycled, ammonia and nitrates will be building up in the water so you need to do small, frequent water changes. I overstocked a new tank once and did a water change of about 20% every night for a few weeks. You might need to add water ager (dechlorinator) if you water is heavily chlorinated. Hope that helps.
  13. Hello and welcome. I agree with Alan. If you answer his questions we would be more able to answer the questions. When we have more information we should be able to be more help but in the meantime doing a small water change every day or two might help and won't do any harm.
  14. I agree with Afrikan and I know Ira agrees too. He says "There are no silly questions except Jude's"
