  1. Yep, I second what Suphew said. If you can. wrap it around before you tie it on because it does tend to grow upward. Tie it tightly as it seems to catch dirt and uneaten food and needs vacuuming to keep it looking nice Cheers Jude
  2. I vote for hermaphrodite - not that I know what I am talking about of course but it would provide some fascinating viewing ..........  Cheers Jude
  3. Off topic I know but are one-liners frowned upon? Cause I do it all the time Cheers Jude
  4. Sorry to hear that. Hope the others are OK Cheers Jude
  5. Can you move some of the filter material from your existing tank over to your new one? That would speed up the cycling and make it possible to add fish almost immediately. The water does not contain much bacteria so it would be of little use but moving some of the gravel might help - not sure about that method because I think you can stir up anaerobic bacteria and pollute the existing tank. Cheers Jude (parroting what she has seen others say  )

    algae

I'm inclined to agree with you dubbieboy except that in this case the cause is a one-off. The container is really only for keeping the driftwood wet and if it got algae I would boil it before putting it in the tank - don't think the plants would like it if I did that to them    Cheers Juce

    algae

Hi Plantman Thanks for the advice. The algae isn't in my tank, it was in a bin I use for soaking driftwood. I take it from your advice that so long as I clean the moss thoroughly it would be safe to put it in an uninfected tank? Hi Alan Thanks for that too. I am not sure I could get hold of any "e" as its a prescription medicine - does anyone know where to get it from? And how to spell it ............... Cheers Jude

    algae

I've just checked my driftwood container and there was a huge clump of java moss, and possibly some christmas moss in it. Its covered with slimey green algae. I want to put some in my tank but how should I treat it to ensure I don't introduce the algae too? Ive pulled off a few cleanish pieces of each and dumped the rest - so there won't be much to be treated. Cheers Jude
  11. great photos pene and beautiful guppies. I just love the colours Cheers Jude
  12. Maybe look at slate as well. Schist can't be siliconed together - well it cn but its a dusty rock and the silicone doesn't hold for long. I believe slate can be stuck together quite well although I haven't tried it yet Cheers Jude
  13. The planting in the community tank is going to look great once it grows and I love the natural arrangements of the rocks in the African tank. Any plans to use rocks to hide the turtle ramp and perhaps turn it into a big cave? Cheers Jude
  14. Those photos should be in a sticky in the diseases section. They are so clear and would help heaps in identifying dropsy. Cheers and thanks jude

    Hi Everyone

Yes welcome, this is certainly the place to learn about fish keeping. Just beware though, certain people here seem to be carriers of the multiple tank syndrome and its very contagious    So far I've only had a mild infection but some others have got it real bad. Cheers Jude
  18. Wish you'd suggested that earlier Caryl. I've removed the bucket and as an extra precaution I've wrapped their feet in cottonwool. Will let you know if it works     Jude

  20. Cool, thanks Ira and Shae Gas inside the filter isn't going to be a problem? Don't want it burping every so often - my nerves would never stand it   Cheers Jude
  21. But make sure they are well siliconed together or they might topple and break a fish! lol Cheers Jude
  22. I believe you can make lights out of plastic spouting - a length of spouting and two end caps, fit the tubes in and you've got a light. I've seen some in pet shops that appear to be made that way too. Cheers Jude
  23. Can anyone post a diagram of a simple diffuser - I don't want to make holes in my filter hoses so I am interested in the bells style of diffuser. However, I've read both Shae's and Spooky's descriptions and am having trouble picturing it. Cheers Jude
  24. And the females have probably developed headaches by now  Cheers Jude
