hey green boy welcome to the site awesome people and very helpfull (good place to meet fish geek people that understand your insanity) n.b. plug for the marines, when your ready to convert to salt water come on over
  2. has anyone seriously investigatedthe pumps they use to drain sewage and waste water? high flow rates and anti corrsive material, the thing i could think would impede them is the 24/7 issue
  3. no thats fresh water how many of you guys had freshies before marine?
  4. iduncan thats what i'm interested in and thats why it apeals to me, i think i love the look of zoos and mushroom (even if people call them weeds ) sps are nice but to tell you the truth id rather have a nice soft coral or lps i definatly agree that it is more difficult to keep stabile, but as i said before, if your willing to put in the effort and want a smaller tank then you can do it and still have it look nice
  5. haha im going to go do that tonight might take my camera just for kicks. what do you mean by dead?(not breathing? hahahah) any prep needed on the mussels? deshell soak?
  6. yeah itll be fine what do you guys feed yours?? i think i need something meatyer  mysis are a little small i think
  7. on rc they say that they "always" do that hide for a while and then slowly come out and find the spot that they like (something to do with self acclimatization)

a seal (thats what they are called aye?)
  9. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showt ... genumber=2 now if you dont think these are cool then your opinion about size is right, but if you think otherwise then maybe there is a bit too much dogma in this forum about needing to have a big tank to have it be successful

cool probably would chimera but you wouldnt have many fish left
  11. im a person of reasonable extremes either small or big no point going inbetween thats why the nano setp suits meat the mo when i've got a house and dont have to move for a while ill setup a bigger tank again, i think ill go for a different style though not the classic tank maybe a inwall or bowfront maybe a big cube in the middle of the room like a pillar
  12. from personal experiance      :-?
  13. i agree with the fish only but in the smaller ones you can beef up the lighting and chuck ind some easy corals
  14. 1000 give or take (with out fuge) depends on what you want to do my two foot cost me 100$ (heres whats in it, fluval 304,18wpc 50/50 actinic, 8w white light, small power head and about 10kg of rock with various corals that are doing really well even under that lighting, soon to be upgraded to 88wats in total) i had everything except the pc light (oh and 40$ for my homemade led moon light) to increase the stability you can add a fuge (hence increasing the literage) if starting from scratch for myself in my own home id do a bow front with in a cabinet type setup with a fuge the size of tank with skimmer in it and heater and a dsb with some form of macro algae 250W mh and aquascape the heck out of it keep any coral you want have the looke of a really nice nano reef but not the size
  15. man one of them would be cool any one got experiance in hidding things in body cavities?
  16. but you pay for what you get hence the ghetto wooden light holder (granted its temperary) and the hair algae (a better filtration system would eliminate that) you can have a ghetto tank to if you really try  but its still early days and all his (My) corals/fish are doing really well one day he might even get some of his own stock
  17. hahahah no way 130$ for the tank (which i think is an awesome tank) free mh light 9from me free heater from me free rock from me 8$timer 60$powerhead 100$second hand cannister 170$skilter (skimmer/filter) whats that 468? no wait he did buy half a cleaner shrimp
  18. you could do it for that for a fish only no fuge and running on cannisters
  19. check it out my favourite is the wood holding the light just need to get rid of that nasty hair algae on the back glass
  20. its gunna look awesome might be coming up to auckland on saturday to pick up a clown it would be cool to check it out
  21. cost isnt relevant with a marine setup (get the right equiptment and dont worry about price ) size is also less important than people in this forum suggest if your willing to put in the prep and effort any size will work (a guy in italy has a pico tank just under a litre) (no fish but it has coral)
  22. thanks ira for being considerate to my tanks special needs i fugured youd get them fom the lfs but ive never seen them (need to look harder)
