    marine tank advice

Hi Arly my name is Adam and I'm from Auckland, About 3 months ago I set up trropical marine tank in my bedroom. It is a very simple tank, all I have in it are a large sea anenome, two clown fish and two mollys. The tank is a 4 foot bow front with a built in trickle filter system and i hav it about one thrird full with coral rock (not live rock yet). I am also only a beginer in this area but I am happy two help you out with the little knowledge I have gatherd so far. P.S.there are alot of guys in this club that may not have salt water tanks but are still quite knowlegeable in that area so if you do run into any problems just post them up on the board and some one will surely be able to help you out

    Anenome injury

Hi John Thanks 4 the advice about using the jug as a safe house for my anenome. I think he mite be just a little bit big for a jug but I'm sure I could up size your idea to make one to fit him for if he ever needs to be isolated again. I would also like to find out what species he is as the guy @ the fish shop who sold him to me no longer works there and they are unsure what he sold me. His stem is about 20cm across and with his tenticals fully spread out he's about 30-40cm across the middle. His stem is a brite purple in colour and his face and tenticals are a browny colour. and also his mouth is a whitey yellow colour. If any one has any ideas or geusses do'nt be afraid to post them I'm very interested. once again thanks alot people

    Green algae

Could this algae just be from too much sun light/food something like that or could this be something a bit more serious like toxic amonia build up?!!!! I bought some different test kits to see if the others arn't contaminated and were working properly, I also don't have a nitrate test kit but I do regular water changes so that really shouldn't be a problem (i hope !!) I'll gety one soon though. My mollies eat this slime when they get hungry and they seem to be fine so it can not be toxic. But I'd still like to try and get rid of it cause its sooooo ugly .

    Green algae

Hi guys Eden here agian with yet another algae problem. The othe day I noticed a few bubbles being suspended by what looked like the mucice that my anenome produces whilst feeding but did'nt think to much of it at the time. But now a couple of days later there is now a considerible amount of this very bright dark green slim spread around the tank and more bubbles have appeared. I recently just started using liquid coral food for the anenome could this be a contributing factor. Could any one help me out with this unattractive problem. I await your flow of Knolege  Thanks

    Anenome injury

Hi John thanks for the advice on the heater and Dr Zoidberg (my anenome). He has completely healed as far as I can see and is happily back at endlessly waving away at nothing again. I have now invested in a couple off water heater covers opps...(heater joeys) . I hope to get some pics of him and the tank on the photo board soon so people can have a squizze at them. Once again thanks for your advice

    Over flow Noise

Thanks for those ideas Warren, I tried the filter wool idea a while ago and had the blockage problem, If I could lift it up off the bottem some how I think it would work well. Im going to try the sloped plastic idea of yours but to get it in the small hole at the top of the tricklefilter it will need to be thin and flexable are there any types of plastic that I should or should'nt use?

    Anenome injury

Hi there everyone!!...Yesterday (16th april) I bought a rather large anenome For my 4' tank, he went in there happily enough but when I woke up this morning he/she had moved its self all the way to the other side of the tank and on his journy it must have encountered the water heater and burnt its self. He has moved away from it now but dose have a burn on his outer lip and some of his tenticals. He ate normaly enough this morning but I would still like to know if he will be alright or if there is anything that I should do for him. Please help me help my anenome!
  12. Thanks for that little snippit of info there Bruce. I also just found that out last night whilst browsing through a book last night, and aparently the larger of the two fish will turn into the female. But I would still like to find out how you tell the difference between the two as my two are very close in size. So if any one out there thinks they might have a clue about this, please don't hold back to drop me a line. Hope 2 here from some one soon!!!!!... thanks...

    Over flow Noise

As you might have read, lately I set up a 4' bow front with trickle filter in my bedroom YES YES I know in my bedroom (stupid), But it looks so cool. At nights its alittle bit noisey to get to sleep so i was woundering if there was any cheap media I could put down the overflow to quieten it a bit or will I encounter problems with clogging or any other CONS ie.smell etc.... I wont be sleeping in there to much longer so it dose'nt matter to much but it would still be nice to quieten it down a bit. Any of u fish'os got any ideas on this ?
  14. Thanks for the reply there Rob. The tank I recently set up has two clown with it though I am not sure of their species but I think they are common clown fish . I do not have them in the tank yet as they are being looked after for me at the moment. So I have two Questions (1). what species are they and (2). Is there any way of identifying the sexes of the pair. Sorry I cannt Get a picture of them up yet I will post one as soon as I get them back.
  15. Hi there fello Fish'os I was woundering if any type of tropical saltwater fish had ever been breed in captivity in NZ? :-?
