  11. hey chris good on ya first of all in auckland you have heaps of people that can help you out you should look at going to steves on sunday if you can, that way you can meet a lot of people to help you, have a look at a nice tank and get ideas for yours, he also has a tank with live rock to sell as for the sand, dont get stuff from the beach unless your setting up for a native tank (even then watch out cause of the silicates in it and other unknowns) come on over to the marine section when your ready
  12. at AUT in the science department they have a native tank that doesnt use a skimmer but they did have some funny looking filtration unit (wasnt really all that clued up on filtration back then)
  13. not the same. about 30$ for a box of 2kg (i think) it changes every time i buy the stuff

  17. yeah sorry the curtains was just a joke  i was really only interested about the uv killing off the algae  how do people with ponds prevent algal growth? (if the answer is really obvious someone can just pm me a slap) (probably the uv units?)
  18. probably the same equiptment needed for a normal marine tank minus the heater and plus a chiller might not need the higher lighting what size tank would you be looking at, becuase snappers seem like the sort of fish that like swimming, and they grow dang big to.
  19. curtains? do uv sterilisers stop algae?? i didnt think they would interesting if they do
  20. with luck, he had the clowns in a smaller seperate tank from the other fish, so they couldnt be eaten in the main tank then when the babies where big enough he seperated them form the parents i dont think he used any special food (he said hes just using granules, which surprised me) steve breed those clowns and give me one please mine is now a lonely transsexual

    finally

i have, thanks to alastairs help, found another marine keeper in the tron still a newb like me, but his melanopus clowns have recently spawned and had about 35 little babies. they are sooo cool the interesting thing is that the babies have white stripes whereas the parents are both plain. he might make an appearance sooner or later
  22. they look pretty good to me what fittings do they use (standard screw in bulb fittings?) i know it says on the site but i have no idea if they are standard or not
