  1. We have Jagers in all our tanks at home, they are definitely well worth it! The price has come down considerably through most retailers now and the 100w is around $70 so a fair price for a reliable product - with added protection in case it gets left out dry! Not that I'd be too keen on actually testing that :slfg:
  2. Very exciting! Saw them myself. Stunning wee critters!
  3. Not sure if any fishos out this way are keen, but Animates are hiring for their new Grey Lynn (Auckland) store, and are wanting fish specialists and fish maintenance staff. Could be an opportunity to spread some knowledge around?? http://www.animates.co.nz/join-us
  4. Oh wow, what was the ladys name?? my mum goes there and I used to work there too several years ago! Mum said it's gotten real funny too. But I was nursing out back and we didn't do reception. Odd that they did that though! We used to have heaps of hit by cars come in while I was there and we'd take them straight in, it has changed a lot though. I go to great south too, showed up there a while ago with a bunch of abandoned catflu kittens and they really helped me out. Totally respect them for that, I've heard a few horror stores (but what vet clinic doesn't have haters) but overall they've been great
  5. Maybe you should go talk to HFF? They're Albany, perhaps get some work experience through them?
  6. Yeah great south vets is awesome. Incredibly well priced compared to just about everywhere What sort of cat you getting Sophia? I have 5 foster kittens looking for homes soon  I hate kitten season, just thankful I'm not handrearing this lot haha!
  7. Yeah bit disappointing to hear. I've met the manager several times and she is a knowledgeable woman as are many of the staff I have spoken to there. And to be honest, fish die in commercial set ups sometimes. Not a lot you can do, other than remove them, quarantine as necessary and move forward. A huge amount of work goes into running a business like that, and no doubt they are always after fresh ideas, sometimes you just need the right person pushing through the correct information, and providing that knowledge to other staff. And then again, sometimes there are reasons behind the way things are done commercially rather than in-home.. I think you got given a lot of great advice on here regarding your options, perhaps none of them are suitable for your current standards of work? We were always taught to start where you can and make the necessary changes towards your goals. Sometimes it's jsut about a bit of experience? And see how it goes. Good luck with the search
  8. Solar eclipse. Two pairs sunglasses. Still have blotchy vision  However quite cool to see!
  9. Good thought! A lot of the stores have a high turnover anyway, so sometimes the person you had a bad experience with is no longer working there. Every business would flounder unless you get the right people with passion into it to make the changes necessary. It's all about growth and development anyway. Also sometimes, genuine mistakes happen. Sometimes it doesn't work out the way you are advised, alas, fish keeping. lol. Imagine how proud you would be if that store that you didn't like doubled it's fish customers because there was someone worthwhile to talk to there, if you're thinking it, others probably are to, "Be the change"...*insert melodramatic music*

  11. Ours was the same, stayed tiny for life. And in a different tank some that were brought at the same time shot off and became monsters. We still have two jullii's that are miniscule and nearly 2 years old so are unfortunately stunted rather than some awesome new pygmy cory I've got it now with some baby loaches I purchased, it's been 6 months and they're still ridiculously small compared to ones a mate got at the same time, same shop, both gone into similarly sized tanks and hers are massive. Just trying to manage all the water quality etc better now
  12. Definitely. The eggs will be elsewhere, they hatch and then jump onto the dog. I believe they say what you can actually 'see' on a pet is only 5% of the population in the pet's local area (grosss huh!) and pretty much nothing stops them picking them up, a topical flea treatment will just mean they'll die. Bonding is great, but there will be more, there are always more fleas! Revolution is safe from 6 weeks old and does up to 2.5kg Frontline spray is safe from two days old (not 4 weeks Miss Georgia! ) Frontline topical spot on is from 8 weeks old And griffons are beautiful! Huge fan Love the name too!
  13. :slfg: Sophia! trust you to find the adorable kitty pics!! Love it! I had the enjoyment of meeting a woman who used to smoke it in her baby's and toddlers room as it helped them to sleep. Swore by the method for all kinds of sickness and even misbehaviour and tantrums..
  14. Tonight I need to pack the car for the trip to Palmerston North on friday! Would do it tomorrow, but we're having dinner at a Drag Cabaret :dunno:
  15. WoW !drool: That's a decent size tank to play around with! *jealous* I agree with the others, large schools look amazing! We had a school of over 100 penguin tetras and it was an incredible effect, even more so when you start to look into the brighter neon/cardianals/harlequins/glowlights etc, it gets a bit schizo with too many varieties. Although I did see a 500 litre that had a large school of peguins and a large school of neons, and the penguins hung out at the top in a large schoal, and the neons grouped really nicely too. So it is manageable. Ultimately your tank! But it would be a nightmare to try and catch them again if you decided you wanted to minimise the species! HAHA Can't wait to see pics as you go! :spop:
  16. Harrrrooo Welcome Yes, pictures of dogs! Are you enjoying rally-o. Just started it with my Shih Tzu  , beyond hilarious actually Hope you enjoy your time here!
  17. I've seen the other end of it, got stopped for a 'routine check' when the officer decided he could smell dope in the car. hauled us all out, him and his mate checked everyones pockets etc. Checked the car. Full on mayhem with us just standing the like :dunno: WTF.. Clean as, nothing found, sober driver, sent on our way all the more confused about the way cops do things! :-? Yet I know many people who have been stopped and just been let off, one guy had several tins in his glovebox and they just confiscated and let him go. I like NZ too, although I haven't lived elsewhere, just visited and researched. There is always issues and I don't think we are quite there on the road to decriminilisatio, loving this thread, boy have we got some highly intelligent people in here Makes for an interesting debate
  18. Sooo went into HFF, between the 3 of us left with dalmatian mollies, platinum high fin mollies, a zebra spiney eel, and a fire parrot. (no not all for one tank ) and more plants and dreams of brackish after my flattie fell in love with the mono angels and red chromides. argh for sunday dreams and fish shopping
  19. Good luck with your beardy! Let us know how the bathing goes My beardy drinks water from his bowl. I got him a water well but he didn't like it. And he likes to eat his calcium like a gecko, gave me a heart attack because I thought perhaps he was deficient, but no, just seems to have a case of mistaken identity. He also 'tastes' everything he meets. Weird critter. Although he does get bathed quite regularly and seems to love it. Had a nasty issue where he got attacked by his cage mate/would have been a girlyfriend who is now residing at a friend's house, came home to a bloody foot, and a black beardy. Lost one toenail, two toes in the end. Been over a month and his colour is still not back yet!
  20. super cool. we had something like that which was more of a ramp up behind the couch. You see some wicked cat houses on that show!!!
