    Pool clean

Why are dragon flys/ damselflys good?
  2. Can you buy Sodium thiosulphate? If so will this be cheaper and as safe as buying over the counter water conditioner? Or is there more to it than just adding some of that?

Shop bought.... I don't know the origins of them. Yeh it could all be natural variations, I wouldn't be suprised in that.

Thanks, one day I am hoping to get all of them side by side so Ican see all the variasions in them. I wonderer if the colouration was different due to fighting or because they had just been stressed with all the new things and moving in the tank

    Snowball video

I just changed my tank around tonight, 10 min after I see this happening. The camera didn't pick it up but one of them was doing a rapid shake.
  6. Question time. I want the plants in this tank to have the ability to grow out of the water, I asume this means taking the top off and giving the plants what they need light and fert wise. My questions are, if the lid is off avaporation is going to be at a highr level, how will this work with EI doesing? DO I top up between water changes or just go at it every week like stated? And also, from my poor photos can any one tell me if I have plants that have the ability to grow out the top?
  7. I gave you a description as well as a photo..... I guess I will get some liquid for it then.
  8. Because I have not set something up this way before, so I am unsure of what is working or what is not working.
  9. Drop checker :dunno: Whats a drop checker? :sml1: Don't know, I do not have it in at the moement, still to lazy/useless to get the mix stuff I need. So I should not be concerned that the bubbles coming out of the outlet are only getting 1/3 down then? My water mover pooed it self tonight. So there is much less movement than last night
  10. Lights, camera, ACTION!!!! My c02 creation is a little poor, plenty of bubbles entering water colum, and not spreading very far. :dunno: The drawing board comes back out
  11. Yeh they were in main tank where fish could nibble. Have thought about stuffing one into some poret in the sump, but it has zero light in it.
  12. A million new noodles will contain zero bacteria, defintly add the old ones and if you can sourse some other currently used get them and put them in as well. I personaly do not like bacteria in a bottle and would rather do a seeded cycle, food cycle or if I have some small fish about and have the time to moniter it properly a fish in cycle.
  13. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?p=1868 Give this a good read, it is very helpful and comes from the main part of this web site. I do not know an exact amount, I just poored some old stuff in that none of my fish eat, and repeated every other day or whenever I remembered. I am sure there is a calculation on exactly what to add, but I do not know what it is sorry.
  14. Most of mine have rooted well. One is still bare, it was at the end of the tank with no sunlight the other end gets a bit most days. I have now moved it to a different tank, but no roots as of yet.
  15. You need to feed it.Fish food, raw fish or prawn, muck from another filter system will will all help that. The time it takes will all be dependent on the amount of water you have, the filtration properties and how much you feed the water. Mine took about two weeks, to show "safe" readings, but I am not planning on adding fish for another week and then in small amounts. I.E 5 tetras a week for the next 4 or so weeks.
  16. Cycling tip: Be Patient, let it do its thing in it's own time.
  17. Thats exactly what happened. But the foam still acted as a mechanical filter/ polisher
  18. I disagree a bit on that. I was having issues with particles making its way back into the system and added poret before the return pump and it stopped the big majorty of it.
  19. Sweeet, the things you learn on a fish forum
  20. I have used cement/concrete/morter (I do not know the difference in them, but it was for doing fencing post's.) in my mixed african tank, I soak it for several weeks with lots of water changes as previosly mentioned to let everything leech out of it. I had no issues withit what so ever all the fish grew well, had great colours and breed regularly. It keept the ph high and hard, and with a mix of good buffers in the sump I had very little flucuations in my water readings.
  21. I just got back from my fish binge weekend. I meet some super cool people and picked up some super cool fish,. This one is sitting up top of the cool list. Thanks Ron for the really good price on it and fixing me up with the plants and a big thanks to Ade for putting us up!
  22. Bristlenose go well, some synodontis, other african cichlids.
  23. Rocks, lots of rocks. Make caves and territorys for them and they will be happy.
