  2. I am looking at buying a cannister filter to run my grow out tank approx 600 litre. found this on TM http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/f ... 092474.htm does anyone use these or have opinions on these filters? or know any other canister that is good bang for your buckfor a tank that size with small fish?
  3. Heat pump set up is in the pipe line at the moement, but possibly will not be going for at least 6 months. It just feels silly running 3 or 4 300W heaters to heat 700-1000 Litres when I have seen/read people running half that for the same size tanks. which made me think that the variety of heater that they are using is why they are able to do it
  4. how cost effective are they? None of my aquaone heaters have failed on me. I realy just want to try and reduce the amount of heating that is running through my tanks if possible
  5. Currently I am running all Aquaone glass heaters on my tanks, at 1 watt per litre as recommended. which is around 3000w of heating running through my tank, I am starting to think that this is a bit stupid so I am looking at upgrading my heater. Any suggestions on certrain heaters that are better then others? Most of my heaters are currently 300w. tanks ranging from 1000 litres through to 40 litres
  6. can it not work the other way with retailers thinking hmmm i need to reduce my prices to make sales...

  10. I will also add that when I tell them that I can get something for XX I always ask if they can match it or just even get close, as I would rather my money stay local in my region before going to Auckland or worldwide. but I still get the same answer
  11. When I tell my local I can find stuff elsewere for cheaper, he gets pissy at me and tells me to buy it elsewere. I am sure my local has his prices set for new people into the hobbie and people with more money then sense. In other words to rip people off!
  12. that is rough, but isnt it a case of the more powerful species survive (humans) and the weaker do not. Or evolution some might say

  17. Sociology to be precise, but I get what you mean. :slfg: Long story short, in an ideal world importing stuff privatly should reduce the retail price of things, bringing more customers into local shops to spend there money on shore. and in doing this it should also bring more job oppurtunitys to locals and local business people. However in the real world people bringing in there own goods does the opposit. retailers go hey we are not getting enough money now so insteed of lowering our prices to make more sales for lower profit we will raise our prices to make higher profit on less sales. and because they are not selling as much it means that there is less work available for people and so on.
  18. sure does thanks. I am doing papers on both sociology and psychology at the moement. Intense stuff thats for sure
  19. Is that a spin off of sociology, in the sense of another branch of it?
