Well as I designed a while back but have yet to implement, I will have a redundant pipe setup incase of any 'emergencies'. Essentially a 2nd hole in the tank just above the maximum water level of the durso that is t'd up to the rest of the overflow system as shown here: This should mean still a quiet overflow but lessens the risk of spillage incase the durso gets clogged. We've got new carpet is going in the whole house early next year (once rennovations are complete) Murphy's law would mean my time for a flood would be a few days after the carpet goes in What can happen will happen so Im not taking any chances

lets face it - how anal can one be? its water from the ocean - as long as its sourced from a reliable location who cares? you could just keep it simple and put it straight in (as I and many others do) or go to extremes and put it through UV, carbon, skim it for 3 months etc. changing 10% or 20% is not a great concern. changing 50%+ in one hit maybe.

does your model have a weir plate? if so move it UP a bit and it will skim wetter.
