  1. yeah just read the same thing on the FAQ on the previous page. thats cool. here's an excerpt regarding yours though - just to be aware...
  2. my "many me" (as my 18month old daughter calls it) has gone walkies. He's basically under the rock that he was on (ie: on the underside of the rock just below the reef rack and out of the light) Is this normal behaviour? Is he just a little scared and trying to get comfortable with his new surroundings?
  3. We are talking about BEGINNERS maintaining a SUCCESSFUL reef tank Brian! These guys obviously know their stuff - and they have some nice tanks thats 4 sure.

i did that drunk once but the cops weren't too happy...
  5. TOTALLY agree with Layton here. IMO take that as gospel otherwise risk wasting time and money.... and read my signature below, this will happen one hell of alot faster on a small tank - and even more so if you're a beginner (take it from someone who found out the hard way!!!)

i wonder if he'd fit in my tank?
  7. be willing to spend heaps of time maintaining it then! at least you'll learn from your mistakes and spend more on good equipment
  8. i bet even something that size cost a minimum of $2k
  9. EXACTLY what it boils down to is what Ira has just pointed out, it depends on what price you can get a marine tank 2nd hand for in the first place. got mine fo $1.5k, ended up spending $6k more + another $2.5k on niceites like timber for a stand to have it in a wall, concrete/timber etc for a sump room, etc etc.
  10. ha haaa, $2.5k - in what currency?! get realistic, either you'd have to go diy with many things at that price OR if you squeezed 3 foot at $2.5K, be prepared to trade off those $$$ for plenty of maintenance.
  11. no worries, PM me and I'll send you my phone number

    Anenome injury

was gonna say the same thing, ha haaa!
  13. typically, 2 x 175W for 100 litre is overkill... however i've read on RC some guys who actually have this sort of lighting on such small tanks! (just imagine what that would look like!) for your average 100 litre though, brian is about right - IMO too a single 150W would be sufficient.
  14. interesting, ed's reply... What's everyone else thoughts on this?
  15. heres another shot of him a little happier!
  16. Here's the left bommie complete, probably just be adding small rocks here and there to cover up the reefrack. The powerhead shown is only temporary until the closed loops are complete!!! Here's a shot zoomed out, right side rocks haven't been structured yet:
  17. check above for the overflow comb picture, it will work out well i believe!
  18. my wife keeps telling me the same thing, "our new tank looks so beautiful, its such a big difference over the old tank"... ...just wait til i load it full of corals darling! must admit, the blue background does wonders for "enhancing" its appearance, as it has done for mine.
  19. of course you meant cheeky, but hey who's checking
  20. Im on jetstream already. It's IHUG, their FTP server is down. Typical. There "Manage my email" system from their web page is FULL of bugs too, trying to get rid of 1000+ NDR's a day by specifically aliasing only the email addresses I use for my company. AND I HATE SPAM!
  21. Got home late last night (after tank lights had gone out) so pic will be up tonight :-? Designed my overflow comb today and sent it off to the laser cutters. Get the finished result either end of this or early next week. Here is the design (this pic will show up tonight when i upload it from home - either that or my ISP fixes their @#$!%$# FTP server!) The perspex will be folded along the dotted lines I think you can work out how it fits yourself.
  22. i like this comparison of a guys reef tank in the US. its a before and after shot, quite an improvement!!! Before... After...
  23. do you know what the 2 types are kevan? there are apparently some better than others and some that should be avoided. anyways, you might be able to make out the right species from the pic's on this site: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/caulerpaalg.htm
  24. or maybe we just miss him ha haaaa! actually, i miss his straight up and to the point answers,... whether they be right or wrong!
