    Sump

nice, but i wouldnt use bioballs or filter wool. i would only use bioballs in a hermetically sealed chamber for bacteria to grow on/attach too (like a nitratereductor) not physically in your aquarium sump with the rest of your water. but thats only my opinion others will have a different view of course...

    Iwaki pumps

Reef or Jetskisteve maybe able to help. Otherwise you can buy new from http://www.reefonline.com.au (expensive though) My 40RXT will be for sale as soon as I get hold of a 55RT model. You can buy off me for what I paid for it if you're interested = $400 (but only after I get a 55RT)
  5. Mulford Plastics, off carbine road in Mt Wellington, Auckland. Only about $15 for a sheet.
  6. My tank sits at 25 degrees too. I have just put in a new 5 foot tank with 2 x 250W metal hallides. I measured the heat at the water surface coming from the hallides at 33 degree's! Requiring a chiller also depends on where the tank sits in your house too and how big the room is. The room where my tank sits (its in the wall) is going to be enclosed soon (about 2 metres by 4 metres). Not only will I need a chiller but will need extraction fans in the ceiling too!
  7. Cheers. Have modified the stand now so that its sitting 175mm below the water level now. The recommended height is anywhere between 120mm - 180mm. This probably explains why I needed to prime the pumps when it first started up in the past! (I bought the skimmer/sump like that in the first place)
  8. Cheers Alois. However, from what I read in there manual (http://www.deltecaquariumsolutions.com/Deltec%20Turbo%20Skimmers%20(2).pdf), it should have been up to the bottom of the neck of the chamber. Must have read it wrong - and I see what you mean as the cup is just filling up with water too quick :-? I'll make the stand higher, thanks.
  9. Changed over the plumbing this morning so water flows around the new system. Have moved over some of the rocks. Found the Iwaki yet again is too small for what I need. I didnt account for the 3 x 90 degree bends in the seaswirl which seems to reduce flow out the nozzle quite considerably (anyone got an Iwaki 55RT for sale let me know!) Here's some pic's... 4 foot refugium (old tank) rocks being moved out... New tank, rocks being moved into it... New sump with skimmer and temperature controller/heaters etc moved in... Aquascaping will be next (once all rocks are moved in)
  10. Cheers Brian, gotta big day tomorrow moving rock/corals/fish! Damn, have to make comb for overflow first.... :-?
  11. After 4 trips to the beach collecting 200 litres at a time, I have the tank full and heated up. The immersible heater only took a couple of hours to heat the whole tank up to 25 degrees. Here's the shot of it full up (a little hazy as the water has only just gone in and the hallides are on but angled up at the back)
  12. have finished the lighting hood and installed it. I still have to add actinic's to it - just haven't got around to buying any end-caps and ballasts for it yet. For the time being, I'll just put the fluoro's on the edge with just blues in it. Here's the hood. Its pretty basic but since its never seen, I dont really care! The piece of 3x2 timber in the centre (seen in 3rd pic down) is the mount for the moonlight.... Collecting more sea water in an hours time!
  13. like this... (should be fully completed by end of week)
  14. it was subtle sarcasm 8) almost contemplated getting up at 4am and collecting nsw. next high tide is 4pm dammit, too long to wait. gonna have to do the fishy move on sunday now. at least that gives me time to finish the lighting hood!
  15. 8 hours! holy crap. poor you dude, thats just wrong! i picked up 300 litres today (ran out of time, do the rest tomorrow) went back down stairs and the hose i put in the drum had self-syphoned 100 litres of sea water onto my driveway... talk about a kick in the head... getting the rest at 5pm tomorrow night. time for a beer me thinks...
  16. i bid on your auctions to a value slightly more than I think they are worth. obviously you want near-new prices for all your 2nd hand stuff. thats fine and your business. my smart arse remark above came about when your eheim 1262 for sale in fnzas private T&E - then all of a sudden you say its sold. a few days later its listed on trademe. just appears to me you want brand new prices for 2nd hand equipment - or just like ripping people off. anyway whatever, its your business and you can charge whatever you like just like I can post whatever i want - its simply my opinion. and fyi, the coffee table is a hell bargain compared to your auctions. its retail value is over $2k - so at least im asking less than 50% for it....
  17. god damn only a couple of hours til high tide and Im still building/sanding etc! still havent got a trailer,... back to it then. pic's later tonight!...
  18. yeah, but i gaurantee chong chow's reserve price will be over $2k based on his other auctions...
  19. Im more tending to go with the fact that reef rack = less dead spots. You will only (for example, in my tank) be missing out on several kg of LR by having reef rack but not to a stage where it causes a detrimental effect. IMHO, I believe that having no reef rack and dead spots in your LR (which can cause high nitrates) is worse than having a reef rack with less LR (in proportion of course - a 500mm high reef rack with 3kg of LR plonked on top of it aint gonna do jack shit - Im talking about your typical reef rack setup) New tank with first coat of gib sealer: I have just realised that this project has taken almost 3 months so far. Started 15th of June... man and I thought I'd get it done in 6 weeks, whadda joke! Especially when Steve Weasts monster upgrade took a day...!
  20. cant see pic's coz wanka's at IHUG deleted them off their web server. likely because they got hacked and had to restore web pages from last night. have re-uploaded them for ya. see previous page. thanks IHUG, nice security... not. yes, bommie is exactly created for that need. new anenome will have it's happy little home amonst the crevices in the rocks (can i spell? who knows)
  21. yes, planned the aquascaping in my head basically a bommie sitting on an angle on the left with a small gap then a reef running along the right side.
  22. and here's the pics.... Tank Valves in... Reef rack side view (showing how crap photo's are with poor lighting!) Reef rack #1, top view: Reef rack #2, top view: Reef rack, front view: The saltwater in the tank is to clean it out!
  23. yes, incl live stock and equipment about $5k SECOND HAND. Buy brand new and you can add another $3k on top of that
