  3. yes, at the end of the promenade (top of map) there's a boat ramp with a concrete ledge going down to the water on the left. walk down that and scoop your buckets from there.
  4. supposedly raining tomorrow, about 6:30pm tonight is the perfect collection time (high tide is at 7:45pm) auckland weather has been mint for the past several week, just hope like hell it stays that way! have added a 'tides' link to the 'sticky' here
  5. is it really necessary? your tank sounds like it's going really well, in terms of coral growth and colour and healthy fish etc. a completely zero-nutrient free tank might have adverse effects? (speculating )
  6. 70w'er's could be good for a nano?
  7. ahhhhhahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
  8. trademe site is down, now thats a first.

  11. From http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=5259... I need to increase Magnesium. I have Mg chips in my calcium reactor but over the past 6 months it's still hovering around 1100 odd. I really want to increase to natural seawater levels (1300 - 1500) Other than using something like Salifert Magnesium chips, how else can this be increased?

  13. Word! I'll take a looksee - I guarantee there will be others interested in a thing or two.
  14. if only we got UK prices... http://www.coralculture.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=671 even when you convert it its still dirt cheap - and thats a 50mm ball valve through a marine store!!!
  15. *shudder* You mean MarineDepot? I have a couple of things I want if you do. PM me.
  16. both my intakes didnt have valves when i got it. with one i use a calcium reactor valve and the other i cut a 3mm piece of the tube off, then cut the 3mm piece long ways, folded it and inserted it into the existing tube reducing the tubes diameter by about 1/2. that certainly helped, you could literally see how much finer the bubbles were. scatman - i'll check it for you when im over next to pick up those pods
  17. whatever you use, you are only supposed to put a little bit in it's mouth and allow it to 'eat' it. just 'covering' it wont necessarily kill them.
  18. about $30 - $35ish. i found it works really well.

  22. well cracker? interestingly my deltec turbo skimmer (eheim pumps) was making a hell of a noise when I checked the sump room tonight. it was a constant banging noise, as if the impeller had come loose. i pulled the skimmer to bits and found a solid build up of calcum carbonate (?) in one of the air intakes just prior to the pump which was blocking all air to it. not sure how long it had been like this for (although recent skimmate levels still appeared to be consistent). i had only cleaned the skimmer about 2 months ago so was surprised the build up was so fast? perhaps a reminder to others to check their intakes etc are performing optimally?
  23. fantastic coloured zoo's ira, how about a pic of the whole tank as it stands now?

  25. yes perhaps, but not according to my eyes! PAR (photosynthetically active radiation) values - essentially the measure of a lamps ability to stimulate photosynthetic activity is very important. Supposedly actinics dont provide much PAR and are mainly for aesthetics? However, they are quite important if you're keeping Anemone's
