  2. females should be either colourles or dull in colour depending on the size as weaker males also tend to not colour up as much if theres a dominant male in the tank and if all else fails venting is the only other option but usualy cant be dont until the fish are sexually mature and is dificult for the amature to do

    cichlids

a 3 foot tank really isnt big enough to house any more than 2 small to medium cichlids id suggest either getting one real agresive fish and just buying feeder fish for him to eat or get a bigger tank big enough for the fish to make territories and then when the boundaries are crossed it would be on for young and old
  14. its absolutly appauling ppl selling betta hexes its amazing how easily ppl get fooled into beleiving that they're big enough to house any fish let alone the pretty lil bettas its illegal in some places to sell them and immoral to sell them every where but unfortunately theres not alot that can be done other than telling the sellers how wrong it is to house bettas in such small confinds and mayby write a letter to SPCA explaining how cruel it is to use these death trapsand see if there is anythin they can do
  15. is there a keeping discus for dummies?
  16. with uv sterilizers i was wondering if their selective in the bacteria they kill i mean do they kill good bacteria?
  17. sounds a bit like neon tetra disease to me id kill it or move it to a tank by its self not worth losing the lot over one neon which as you say has lost its colour and therefoer its appeal there not called neons for their dull colourless body now are they
  18. can you put up the specie names of all your loaches sue? we dont get too much variety here in aus so i dont know much about them
  19. personally i wouldnt bother with carbon unless you use it to remove medications sure it pollishes your water but doesnt last long
  20. why would you want fish to live in your sump i thaught the whole idea of hiding your filters heaters etc in a sump was to keep them out of sight and they usually are hidden in a copboard under the tank so would you really see the fish in the sump and also it would defeat the purpose anyway the water gets filtered in the sump b4 it reaches the pump the only room left for fish is where the pump is so all the fish poo and food would be pumped int to the tank seems like a waste of time having the sump there in the first place huh

    Cichlid Tank

www.cichlid-forum.com great site with info on heaps a species of cichlids id go for crushed coral or granite substrate probably 1-3 mm size for malawis ansd tangs if you get dark coloured cichlids get light gravel if you get light cichlids get dark gravel dont expect to be able to grow plants in tanks with medium to large cichlids cos their all miners and will dig your plants out also if you want large ones be prepared to keep cleaning your tank often there messy eaters you would also need quite a large tank and high powered filtration also b4 you go out and spend heaps of money on fish find out what you want and what their compatible with they get very teritorial and angry some might die and some might be eaten and theres nothing worse than having 10 tanks with one fish in each due to their bad tempers
