  1. just got my group home and settled in, don't think anything worries these guys, boys were mating with girls even while I was netting them into the tank
  2. if your questioning the quality leave it alone, if it breaks you'll have to fork out for a replacement, and also its not a good idea to scrimp on electrical equipment as it can cost you in the long run
  3. ime barley straw extracts don't hurt bugs at all
  4. lol thought so, really just wanted better sized live food for the sand gobies well, i'll take some pics tonight and see what happens
  5. just noticed one of my shrimps in my NZ marine tank is in berry. does anyone know if they have a planktonic stage?
  6. its all about getting the pond balanced properly, try increasing shade, add more plants and look at a live bacteria solution to up the filtration capacity, if there are fish reduce feeding (if lightly stocked then you should only need to feed once a week at the most)
  7. will there be any animals in it to dig around??? would probably lean towards a more acidic peat based mix, there are several specialty fern mixes out there that should do the trick.
  8. ok, might as well add to this thread. what would be your choice for snail eater in a cold water tank??, and by cold water I mean down to around 8-10 degrees in winter.
  9. mine tend to pick them up and wear them on their heads (not joking) but the snail always lives to be worn another day
  10. have a mental image of a mime in a tank "cant get out" Chain loaches are awesome, probably better with baby bnoses round, the problem with chain loaches though is they tend to struggle with trumpet snails, though they decimate populations of ramshorns, planorbis and paper snails
  11. yeah reasonably normal with mixed gene browns.
  12. I would recommend the Zebra Loach, botia striata, does as good as a clown loach but doesnt get anywhere near as big. but I would wait a bit til the gba's are a bit bigger, until then try trapping them
  13. have you had your water tested?, mollies are quite sensitive to nitrates.
  14. here you go, read up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mendelian_inheritance
  15. imo its better to use as many ppls as possible and lift from underneath, only bothered with vacuum grips if its a seriously tall tank, and even then only as a stabliser.
  16. wow, did Ira make a serious comment????
  17. is that a faded spot on its side? (can't tell if there is any fuzzy stuff on it) yeah you did the right thing, quarantine will protect your other fish, and also when an infected fish dies the pathogens normally leave the host and hunt for a new victim. keep an eye on him, and note down how the disease progresses, this will help you with a positive id on whats going on in your tank

dwarf puffers.com recommends at least 15L per puffer
  19. both of them must be browns from golden parents. their genetics are pretty close to mendalian if you want to have a play with them (you can make it as complicated as you like, but the basic mendalian concept works well with Bristles)
  20. I supported mine so much, now i'm stuck there 40hrs a week =P
  21. very true, Tauranga just lost one, and without our other businesses supporting us we would be long gone, funny how animates seems to be busy all the time though , most of our customers complain about prices but then talk about shopping at animates, shows the power of a good marketing budget
  22. congrats, they r really cute at that size. are they offspring of the longfin or is he just enjoying lunch with them
