  14. haven't had a go myself, but have heard it can be done, and reasonably cheaply as long as you have all the skills required. and yes it is possible to have algae free tank without RO water, they had them before RO units were around, have a look into older methods, there is some decent knowledge there, plus you find a lot of "new" things really aren't

can you get a close up of her, she really making me want one
  16. man, I really gotta take a road trip, might be buying a car soon up there so will poke my head in (fingers crossed)
  17. heard that biosecurity only inspects less than 1% of all shipments into NZ, fair enough that they cant check everything, but seriously, 1% is about as useful as not checking at all, and a hell of a lot more expensive
  18. hate to say it but be prepared for the worst, it is virtually impossible to supply enough live copeopods to keep them alive for long. although if it has no competition and you already have a thriving pod colony you might do ok. A good size (read 300L+) refugium will help but in your case with an un-aged tank I would suspect bad things will happen. here is a good discussion http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t1496.html I would personally ask if you could return it for credit to the store you got it from before it is too late
  19. Aquaone makes them for reptile enclosures, but they do ok in fish tanks. or you could try making your own http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=29076 http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=39179
