  1. lotsa oto's, siamese algae eaters and shrimp I got one small SAE and 6 oto's cleaning a 400L tank, works well
  2. offically all three have been listed as Baryancistrus xanthellus, making the L numbers obsolete, the 3 different versions are technically just different pattern varieties.
  3. be careful of using a heater with a bi-metallic strip as your emergency back up as they can stick in the off (or on) position easily if they are not constantly changing
  4. Gold nugget = either L018, L177, or L085 (and possibly L081) Planet catfish lists them to grow to 35cm Aquarium life has them at around 20cm Dogbreedinfo.com (yes seriously ) say around 20cm AquaHobby.com claims 35cm Seriouslyfish.com states that for the official description the largest recorded was 22.41cm Fishkeeping.co.uk goes for 35cm just bout every site says they are extremely long lived (25 years plus) and slow growing so don't be surprised if we eventually hear about larger ones than this
  5. or just rig up a small CPU fan to keep circulation going and put thermo in an out of the way spot
  6. Dwarf Gourami = Thrichogaster lalius (previously Colisa lalia) Indian banded gourami = Trichogaster fasciata (Previously Colisa fasciata) related but not as close as the colours would make you believe
  7. ok, back to the original post, first of all, I seriously doubt some floral arranging sticks would affect the pH of the water, also wonder how wood, which makes pH drop would be making the pH rise. the Silver streak will slowly buffer your water back up to around 8.0 - 8.5 for the first 2-3 years of use. when you say slowly rising what do you mean???, 0.1-0.2 over the course of a week, although not perfect is still ok
  8. lol, too true, a couple of repair job's I helped with ended up being replacement jobs, we just told them we gave the glass a polish , it was way easier
  9. people are allowed their own opinions, if anyone voicing them scares someone off they really need to harden up the world is PC enough as it is. btw, I don't think anyone will scare Jaxx off....

    Favinogobius

anyone know anything about the spawning of these guys???, came home today and the smaller one has dug a big hole near a rock cave and Fatso (above) seems a bit more..... staring.... (hard to say, he spends most of his time watching whoever is in the room, but he seems to be more intent)
  11. fishkeeping is more important than mothers :sage:
  12. depends on the air it comes from, used a dehumidifier in a smoking room once, the water was greyish yellow and smelled funny, probably coulda used it as a quit smoking drink
  13. didn't thin cpoper would dissolve into the water in enough quantities to cause issues, in the solid metal form its pretty stable. used to have heaps of copper piping in the plant ponds in the theory that it would control snail growth, never did a thing
  14. one thing, when you collect fish there you need at least 2 spotters to watch out for crocs and you quickly learn to keep an eye on the ground (I still stop for suspicious looking twigs)
  15. p.s. what kind of stup is it???, some woods can be poisonous
  16. i'd probably give it a bit longer to soak out more tannins though
  17. I have heard that they are no longer making the aquatic mix
  18. lucky bugger used to lover collecting wierd fish in northern queensland the gudgeons are awesome as well
  19. Filter is an excellent Idea, only thing you need to think about is keeping the current as low as possible. Air pump is not really neccesary and can cause too much current. lights not essential, plants only if youi are using a very fine substrate Its best to keep Axo's on a bottom that they cannot swallow, either bare glass, or with larger stones that are around 30-40mm round check out http://www.axolotl.org/housing.htm really good site for you

    Project AA

picked up a tray full of asstd small bolts at a $2 shop sorta place, bought it for the tray ($3, perfect tackle box) all the bolts are stainless (and are surviving salt water atm)
  21. or you could send back the males and have lotsa guppies soon
  22. yeps, but when you use common names bad things happen
  23. really need a 2 female to one male ratio to prevent this, 3 males to one girl will be bad even in a thickly planted tank.either thin out the males or add some more females. think of guppy males as the same as 15 year old boys btw its quite hard to get a girl that is not pregnant
  24. yeah, they used to be called that but it led to a bit of confusion, and a few Giant gourami swimming round in tiny tanks
  25. probably a bit worried about living with a frenchie
