ok, back to the original post, first of all, I seriously doubt some floral arranging sticks would affect the pH of the water, also wonder how wood, which makes pH drop would be making the pH rise. the Silver streak will slowly buffer your water back up to around 8.0 - 8.5 for the first 2-3 years of use. when you say slowly rising what do you mean???, 0.1-0.2 over the course of a week, although not perfect is still ok

Filter is an excellent Idea, only thing you need to think about is keeping the current as low as possible. picked up a tray full of asstd small bolts at a $2 shop sorta place, bought it for the tray ($3, perfect tackle box) all the bolts are stainless (and are surviving salt water atm)

really need a 2 female to one male ratio to prevent this, 3 males to one girl will be bad even in a thickly planted tank.either thin out the males or add some more females. think of guppy males as the same as 15 year old boys btw its quite hard to get a girl that is not pregnant

yeah, they used to be called that but it led to a bit of confusion, and a few Giant gourami swimming round in tiny tanks
