  1. almost certain its a ranunculus type plant (probably flammula) I think Sheepsnana has one in his tank
  2. we are kiwis, picking on each other is out national sport, either that or picking on Aussies
  3. get a couple of small pebbles out of your substrate and jam them into the side, sinks fine
  4. good Idea, went with a regular desk lamp, kinda annoying how al the clip on ones have a solid metal bar at the base which makes them unsuitable to clip onto the tank. i'm planning on unbolting it and bending it so it can camp on properly
  5. Is that a background or is your house painted like a prison wash room???
  6. could be interesting to do some basic water sampling from a range of tides and a range of weather conditions I'd hate to see what sort of pollution comes out of the rotting sea weed everywhere p.s. watch out for the sea lice i the estuary there, they get really bad after a long sunny period for some reason, and they bite really bad when your wading on the mudflats (but they do look cool up close)
  7. yeah it needs a bit of green, but looks awesome, good idea on using it as a wick
  8. If you want to breed them, invest in a brineshrimp hatchery, and make sure you have a good infusoria culture ready before you get them home (my last pair went 2 days after settling in) My Fav fish ever to breed, love the fry clouding around the parents
  9. lol, the water I tested came from the Mobil wharf at chapel street, about 1 hour after high, 2 days after a big rain I was assuming it might be fertiliser run off, but then again, the creek at the top of that estuary is rated as one of the most polluted streams in the BOP area.though better safe than sorry. anyway Fatso seems to prefer the mount's water
  10. do you have a photo of lamps???, my bunnings had stuff all range of suitable lamps the other day and the clip on one I got at the Warehouse had a broken clip when I got it home :an!gry so gotta wait another day to start on algae growing
  11. :sml1: love it, especially number 5, had guy tell me his little sister bought him a small silver dollar for a surprise BDay pressy,..... for his PLANTED tank...
  12. I've normally spawned them in a bare glass tank with a plastic plant, a small smooth flat stone and a flower pot have been reading a lot recently about using a fine layer of sand on the bottom would help with spawning anyone tried this???, i was thinking about it but wouldn't i make it harder to keep clean???
  13. Gidday mate good to see you joined
  14. tested some Tauranga Harbour water the other day, had an ammonia reading of 0.25ppm and a nitrate reading of around 10ppm now I collect my water closer to the entrance on an incoming tide. (until I get a bit more serious on growing some algae)

    Project AA

Nice, I prefer nachoes :spop: Don't forget the rated flow rate is normally for when there is no load i.e. no filter material etc.... expect around 700-800LPH out of it
