  1. I bought an Arcadia 6500k Light Bulb 18" for $26 from Hollywood Fish Farm Mt. Roskill. It looks pretty good, although it is too much to pay for a light bulb. Next time, Ill get my bulbs from Mitre 10 (I know people) Thanx breaka\/\/ay
  2. Hi Guys, As I have aquascaped my tank and intend adding more plants, I need more light. I have a second light hood, but no bulb. I was wondering if Buying those special light bulbs which are made to promote plant growth were worth the money? Or should I go to Mitre 10 or something and get one? Any help appreciated breaka\/\/ay

  5. Hi Guys, Ive heard that if you want to import some fish, you have to go throught MAF and quarantine them for 6 weeks. Just out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of place MAF has to hold these fish in? Like filters, water changes, etc. Just wondering if any1 knows, or has a link where I can find all the above information. Thanx
  6. Hi Guys, Ive had my 54L Tank for 4 months now, and I would like to try feeding my fish brine shrimp (I have Blue Dwarf Gouramies and Angelfish) There is some Brine Shrimp availble on Trademe, and I was wondering if someone could tell me: 1) What is required to hatch them (Utensils, Tanks, Etc) 2) How do you feed them to your fish - Do you just throw them in your tank? 3) Could Someone give me instructions on how to do hatch them and feed them to my fish? Any Help Appreciated

  9. Email them to me I will put them up for you. My addy is [email protected] I would really like to see a small setup. Thanx
  10. Hi Livebearer_Breeder I strongly advise against going for a two foot. The smaller the tank, the harder it is to maintain water parameters. "Ideal" size is 4 foot, however I recommend a 5 foot just to be safe  Ive heard on this forum that it costs about NZ$8000 approximately if you want to buy all your gear new. If second hand, availablity permitting, maybe around NZ$5000. Ive also heard that lighting is an important component, and will cost the most in a new setup if bought new in a package. I believe DIY is the best way - Buy your bulbs, make your bulb holders (Bulkheads.. I think they are called, I could be wrong) And a sump is to keep all the equipment out of the tank, however it is also a great way to skim/filter and heat the tank. Ask some of the more experienced users like Pies and reef.
  11. Are you using heatshrink after soldering to cover the LED probes?
  12. Does anyone know an online shop where these itemss (except lighting) can be purchased at a resonable price? Also another couple of Questions: 1) What temperature do I have to keep a reef at? 2) I live in Mt. Roskill, Auckland. Will I need to get a chiller if I ever keep a reef?
  13. Try adding some melafix. My knowledge with medicines is limited, and Ive heard good things about melafix, I believe you should try some of taht. Good Luck
  14. Thanks for that guys, that is really informative
  15. A question for the pros - do you think its a good investment buying ready made tanks like shown in the above post with built in heater, lights and filters? Or is it not as good as a custom setup?
  16. I dont really know much about marine, and after browsing the marine forum I have become quite fond of these Reef tanks, and would really like to keep one. But First, I have to ask some questions: 1) While using a protien skimmer, do you also have to use additional external filteration? Also, what kind of fish/corals would you use a protien skimmer with? 2) Where is the place to acquire good quality Hallides and stuff, and how much do they cost? 3) How do you determine where to point your power heads if you are new to Marine? 4) What is the function of Live Rock? Where do you get it from? How much does it cost? 5) How do you make your water salty? Do you add the special salt from the LFS or do you bring in buckets and buckets from the nearest beach? 6) Where do you get sand from? And when you vaccum, wont you loose a siginificant amount of sand? 7) Where do you guys get your livestock from? 8) Can someone please explain to me exactly what a protien skimmer does 9) How do you "Attach" corals and anemones? Do you just place them in your tank and will they just float around and find a good place? Or do you have to do something special to attach them? 10) What is Kalk? Any help appreciated Thanx in Advance
  17. Yep, Ill definitely get a reef when I start earning
  18. Including livestock and equipment? I thought it would be more than that! 8)
