My cheap Vonets wifi bridge works in so much as I can connect a VOIP phone with it to the network, and a PC, but not my ATA Monitoring the connections to the wifi hotspot, I can see it connect, drop, connect, drop etc.

I would think it would be turned off at night.

21 deg C would suit both? But BNs can latch on to the goldfish body and damage their slime coat .. so not said to be a good combination though some people don't have any problems.

Hard to see since the images are so small but it might be one of those skinny wall tanks ... that are used as wall decoration.

If his fins had worn off, sounds like he had fin rot. Letting ammonia build up at all can impair immunity, and oxygen exchange. What was your water change schedule before you noticed the ammonia spike?

Angels also like to fly ... they need about 60 cm depth tank and I would guess your 3 foot tank is lower than this.

It seems that a number of shops do run marines tanks for display purposes but without obviously trying to sell the fish. The pet shop near the Napier City Library seemed to be like that ... Not sure if the fish at the entrance to Euro in the Auckland waterfront were for display or for consumption.

I suspect that there's a point where all you are adding is more water volume rather than contributing to biological filtration. However, you could grow algae as nitrate reducers as there isn't normally a shortage of nitrate.

If you're collecting rain water for your fish, it now comes with its own charcoal filter if you live in the central north island!

Beer and shell fish are both common causes of gout where the person is already a gout sufferer. Most gout sufferers (90%) are renal under excretors of uric acid, so an oral purine load will cause a spike in the blood levels which are already saturated and so is likely to lead to crystal deposition.

The traditional capitalist model is that one company grows sufficiently to buy out the others, or otherwise put them out of business. If that doesn't happen, it would suggest that it is not a viable business model.
