  1. http://www.wikihow.com/Identify-Food-Grade-Buckets You'll want to keep the fish in plastic containers that are food grade generally
  2. Probably not an issue but just check for food grade plastic. There should be a little molded sign on it.
  3. Grams is a measure of weight, and the other is a measure of volume. If you're talking about water, then 1 ml = 1 gm, so 37.5 g of water occupies a volume of 37.5 mls
  4. He came to my house in Karori to do a quote for a tank build. Why not just ask him? As a glazier, pretty much all of them do house calls.
  5. Have you asked Pete ? Port Nicholson Glass Custom built tanks and stands Nationwide delivery 7 Regent St Petone Wellington Phone: 04 939 9030
  6. You could as an alternative get some fish bins from Bunnings or Warehouse etc. Food grade plastic. Use them as holding tanks while you repair the tank. They're pretty inexpensive.
  7. Unless you had direct sunlight falling on the glass ...
  8. Just the sort of tank Clark Kent would use .. the two layers of glass are sandwiched around some Krypton.

    Sick WCMM

4 days later she has reappeared and has managed to swim to the top of the tank where I scooped her out and put her back with her kind. Still can't maintain any buoyancy in that she has to actively swim to get anywhere otherwise she falls to the bottom of the tank. She is now considerably thinner. I wonder if she were egg bound ( 3 more fry have appeared in the tank ) and that has been causing the buoyancy issue. She hasn't been fed now for a few days so maybe she will improve as the eggs get reabsorbed.

    Betta Cancer?

Most cameras have a memory card which you can remove ... do you not have a memory card reader?
  11. My heaters do the same so I just turn them down a notch until the tank temperature is eventually reached.
  12. Probably not the best way to waste their time by being smart You might get them to refine their attack strategy. I remember some pressure cooker type investment group kept calling me from London ( think it was actually Thailand though ) to buy some promising shares. I kept them going for months getting them to call me back. I think I managed to sell a couple of houses to raise the funds necessary to buy their great shares!! It was highly entertaining.

    Betta Cancer?

Might be an abscess since it's only been there a week. Antibiotics aren't very effective for those, drainage is best, but I guess you might try it since there's not much alternative
  14. Courtesy of Microsoft Research Labs http://research.microsoft.com/pubs/1677 ... igeria.pdf So, this suggests that the way to foil these spammers is for everyone to reply no matter how silly the spam is ( use a throwaway email account ). This so increases their work to find suitable victims as to perhaps make the whole scam unprofitable. I do this too. When people ring up from Microsoft security to explain that my PC is infected and slow ... I keep them on the phone as long as I can! It costs them time, and perhaps money ( unless they're stealing someone's voip services ), and renders the task of finding a victim much harder.
  15. One theory as to why the grammar is so poor in these spam is that it is designed to select the gullible. They want to filter out all those smart enough realize it's all crock. So, filter out the ones who will readily spot the scam to save themselves a bit of effort, and just get contacted by the rest. There was an article on this that I read ... and of course ... I think it's all rubbish!
  16. I thought about this before but surely it's just easier to have a sump and grow heaps of plants in order to remove the nitrates? Or run a little aquaponics setup to do the scrubbing.

She's disappeared for the moment but if she resurfaces I'll try to rehouse her in an old fish's home.

No, never used any medications. Only cold water tank I have is the gold fish tank ... which runs at 18 deg C. Could put her into another trap there to stop her from being eaten by the goldies.

    Sick WCMM

Should have posted this earlier ... One of my remaining WCCMs had been swimming poorly for a month or so, and tending to swim to the left. Seemed also a bit large so I wondered if she were a female with eggs ( a fry appeared in the tank a month back ) No external signs of disease and ammonia levels undetectable. Came back from conference on Sunday to find her at the bottom of the tank ( 50 cm deep ) lying there just rapidly breathing. And just occasionally swimming up a little before dropping back. Since there is no current in this tank, and she was lying at the bottom of the wrong side of the Hamburg mat filter, I managed to get her into a floating breeder trap on the other side of the filter hoping to get higher O2 levels. However, the angels there must have spooked her and she did a jump landing into the bottom of the tank where I can not easily reach her. Unexpectedly she is still alive but not moving. Tank is set at 23 deg C. Any suggestions?
  20. http://microbewiki.kenyon.edu/index.php ... almonicida Says the bug grows optimally 22-25C ... wonder what other condition is favouring these infections at our low temperatures. Must be a worry ....
  21. That white stuff looks like necrotic tissue where the skin is sloughing off. How fresh are these specimens?
  22. Except we have some prior work from the RSPCA one can call upon.
  23. As noted, if the SPCA advice is wrong, what hope is there for the general public?
  24. Govt is going after the big fish ( those boats dumping fish at sea ). We can help at the other end with education ( though that hasn't seemed to have worked either with TM or the seller ).
  25. The RSPCA covers the care of goldfish in containers. Their care comes under the animal welfare act ( UK). See http://www.rspca.org.uk/utilities/faq/- ... dfishBowls Don't know what the situation is in NZ. But I found this which looks inaccurate http://www.spcaotago.org.nz/animal-advice/fish-advice/
