  1. My next tank I am making is a hill stream loach torrent rifle, but you have the same problem that you have with natives, it gets hot in Beachlands. Also in a tall tank like that I think you should put something in it that makes the most of the tallness, where loaches dont use that.
  2. I agree it will be a tight fit, may look a bit out of proportion. but the only good thing about a narrow tank is that light will come from the front, not just the top.
  3. Any type of fish that would go in the size aquarium that you have of water. They need to not eat your plants, but if you go with a small schooling fish (tetra, danio, rasbora, etc.) you should not have any problems.
  4. In that case GO THE CANISTER WAY they are great filters. A box frame could work, it would just have not much tolerance to go wrong if you were using it to brace the tank as if it was to far away from the glass the glass could still break. The dreaded one tank limit, lucky you to have managed to avoid that, but be careful mts can quickly get out of control, hahaha.
  5. I dont know much about tank building, but most of the longer tanks I have (1.2m long) have a glass bracing siliconed across the middle of the top to hold the glass the right distance apart. Other then that I dont have many ideas other then if you made a rim for it.
  6. Canister filters are fairly simple to set up and use, and dont need much maintenance that is different from other filters (just washing of pads). I personally think canisters are the best sort of filter. Just a couple of thoughts, there will be quite a head height between the top of the tank and the ground, and around the fire there is no easy way to hide the canister, so you may want to use some filter in/on the tank just for aesthetics of the room, unless you find a way to hide the canister.
  7. Bristlenoses should be fine, it is wide enough for them to turn around, and they have a large amount of swimming space along the tank and up and down. personally I think ottos are a bit better at cleaning up algae, but I think plecos look cooler. It might be hard to find a good looking bit of driftwood as the tank is very narrow.
  8. Just my thoughts on the tank, It could look prety awesome, but the width is very limiting on what fish you can put in it, I would personally say putting a school of small tetra in it (like neons) would probably be what would look best in it. For that to look great you would want the tank to be planted, but it may be hard to get plants started in such a deep tank (I am not an expert on plants, so I am not certain). and one thought that just occurred to me, how do you intend on filtering it, with the depth I would imagine you would need long pipes so that there are no dead spots at the bottom. But best of luck, and I am sure you can make it look amazing.
  9. That isnt good, I am glad mine hasn't jumped out of the tank, and I hope it never will. They do have a funny way of swimming, mine likes to dart around the top of the aquarium swimming upside down all the time.
  10. At the moment I am home studying, so I am spending all day studying by the fish tank. Several times during the day my BGK has woken up and swimming around the tank. One of the times when I saw that I went and got some blood worm and just held them in the tank, and the BGK swam up and ate them, since then I have fed him something (started feeding pallets the same way) every time he swam around the front of the tank, so now he begs for food when he is hungry. So to sum it up I waited around the tank until I saw it being active then temped it into feeding with blood worms.
  11. My one does that, except it does it hidden in some plant (it chose the plants as it's hiding spot for some reason). I have only had him for a few weeks and assumed it was natural, but now you have made me nervous about it not being natural behavior.
  12. That looks nice, what sort of frogs would I get to go in there, and where would the best place to get them from be?
  13. Not a fan of axolotols, I was thinking frogs or newts, but what sorts of them can you get in New Zealand.
  14. Haha, the turtles dont nearly fit in the tank now, but nice try.
  15. That could be interesting, but I posted it in the Reptiles and Amphibians board because I was thinking that a reptile and amphibian is what I want to put in it, but thanks for your input any way.
  16. I have a 1.2 meter, 150L ex turtle tank (the turtles have been move to a pond out side as they out grew the tank), and I want to stock it with something different to fish. I was wondering what do people think I would look good stocked in it?
  17. In that case it probably isnt the RCD, it might be that you havnt put it together completely properly and that is jamming it from moving, other then that you might have to resign to the fact that it is broken.
  18. nice looking rams, they look nice and healthy, best of luck with hatching the eggs, then it just comes down to do you want to leave the fry in that tank and risk them getting eaten, or put them in a different tank to grow.
  19. Reisdual current device. It makes sure that the device isnt leaching power to an earth, so It looks for breaks in the insulation.
  20. :nfs: You have amazing looking fish, and I am jealous of your photo taking abilities.
  21. That I am not surprised about, In the few weeks I have had my one it already seems smarter then our dog.
  22. That might work, my only thoughts on it is that the surface area of the CO2 when it is in the lid would be relatively low, and the bubbles that come out would be relatively large, so unless it was held in the lid for a long time it probably wouldn't increase the amount dissolved. I could be wrong, that is just me trying to think how it would work off the top of my head, and I would need to do research to know if I was any where near correct, but well done on trying to think up ways to use more of the CO2. @sam: I do like that idea, it looks like it would greatly increase the amount dissolved.
  23. The amount of CO2 dissolved is proportional to both the surface area of the CO2 bubble and the amount of time it is in contact with the water. I have read that as you saying 'what would happen if it was released as one big bubble' (correct me if I have read that wrong), that would decrease the amount of CO2 dissolved as it would have a relatively small surface area of the bubbles in contact with the water for the amount of time it takes to travel to the surface. If you are talking about a Bell like sam mentioned, it would increase the amount dissolved as it would be in contact with the water for a large amount of time.
  24. I dont have the old posts on my wall, but then again I am always on top of my security settings, so that may be why. Not that I am encouraging you to lie or any thing but face book only has as much personal information on you as you give it. So if you are so worried about them abusing/selling your personal information dont give them any. and the problems with apps using your information, dont use apps (most of them are really lame any way).
