  1. How big is it now? and how old is it, as getting how fast they should be growing is hard to get offline, all I have been able to find is 'slow'.
  2. Thanks for that, I know I could google it, but I am just to lazy.
  3. When the reason you don't get moon lighting for your tank is you know that if you purchased it you would stay up all night watching your fish, and not get any sleep.
  4. Tip: Your friends complain and offer no useful information if you start posting all your ideas about what you could do with your fish tank/what your fish are doing that is cute/problems you have with your fish.
  5. A. I dont know of any one who has had there facebook 'hacked', only had friends guess/workout/learn other friends pass words, and people saying that there facebook was 'hacked' is one of my pet peeves, I find it really annoying. B. face book is really good for keeping in touch of friends, and communicating with them, but take it from some one who avoided it for a long time, before eventually joining, It is very easy to get 'addicted' and spend way to much time on it (It is worse then forums for that in my opinion). C. As for the bullying issue, it is very easy to change your facebook settings to stop people you dont like from communicating to you on it.
  6. I have never actually worked out how much power I use, so haven't been able to use that argument, but they also complain about water usage, as we are on tank, and they don't like buying it/haven't bought water in my life time. But back on topic: When your mum says "are you sure you want to spend that much on fish?????" And you reply (in an offhand sort of voice) "yea, it really isnt that much to spend on fish. ($90).
  7. When people tell you fish are boring as you cant pat them or play with them or anything, so you go home and teach your bgk to go play with you.
  8. You know you're addicted to fish when your parents ban you from having more then one fish tank due to the power it uses, so you upsize the tank instead and hope your parents don't notice the extra power used by the new filter.
  9. Here is my cat: Please excuse the mess and bad quality of the picture, It was done with my phone, not a proper camera.
  10. Personally I think live plants are better because they take nitrates and other chemicals out of your water, but fake plants are easier to work with, and sometimes look better. It is your choice, and people dont really care that much.
  11. That is a nice size starting tank. In terms of the cycling the tank http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?p=1868 has all the information you should need. In terms of the actual cycling process near the bottom it goes into how to do fish less cycling, and cycling with fish. Plants wise it really depends on how much you want to go into plants. I have never been that into making my tanks planted tanks, so I have just only used gravel, and added the occasional bit of fertilizer, but if you want to go into making a full on planted tank I am led to believe that they work better if you use some sort of aquarium dirt under your gravel, but that is entirely up to you. But I should probably mention that I am not the best person to ask about plants as they always seem to die on me. I wish you the best of luck with your fish keeping endeavors.
  12. Hello and welcome to the site. I hope you have a fun and educational time here. What size tank is it, and what do you have/wanting to put in it?
  13. I dont see what the problem is, as I have never seen problems with peoples attitudes, and it is one of the best behaved forums I have seen on the internet, I suppose the mods should get credit for that, as they do I great job keeping the forum clean. But thats just my opinion, and what would I know, Its not as if I am a lurker on multiple fish forums.... In answer to your question no one forces you to go on to this site, so feel welcome to not visit if you don't like it.
  14. No, just excited as it is the first fish I have got to hand feed and that will swim around/through my hands and fingers.
  15. It eats enough, and I suppose if I stopped hand feeding it, it would find its own food, It is just so fun hand feeding it though.
  16. Got a black ghost knife a few weeks ago, and the only way I can get it to feed is if I hand feed it. It is officially my favorite fish now, it is so interactive, and friendly.
  17. I am not thinking of going planted, I like jags, but dont they get to 300mm, which is to big for the tank i am getting?
  18. If GT's are wussy, what is a non wussy chichlid that I could keep (possibale keep a pair of) in there?
  19. I do quite like some of the larger chichlids, but I am not sure of my options of what I am allowed, if I was I would want a breeding pair of somthing like GT's, but I dont think my tank will be big enough.
  20. I know you cant keep those fish in a tank together, at the most you could maybe have one oscar, which is why I suggested them after you suggested 4 pacu. What would you suggest in terms of tank mates and a 'comfortable enviroment'? How hard are they to get at the larger sizes?
  21. Knife fish are cool, but I think I read some where a while ago that they are really fragile, and you dont see them at much/at all, is this true?
  22. Rainbow fish are cool, but I am looking for a fish that has a cool looking body shape (big mouth, weird non fish like skeleton, etc.) rather then color, sorry for being fussy, but thank you any way. @Godly3vil: that sounds like a great idea, will I be able to fit a couple of oscar's and an arowana in with them to?
  23. I am getting a new tank for my birthday, and I want peoples advice on what I should stock it with. It is going to be 1200*450*500. I want to get only a few larger fish in there, not a community of smaller fish, as I have already done a community tank and I want to do something different. So what should I stock my tank with? thanks in advance for any advice.
  24. Yes, that is amazing, I wish I had taken photos of mine when I killed it now.
