  1. Looking good Couldnt see the size of it anywhere...? Nice size none the less.
  2. How big is this guy now LA, expecting it to get much larger? Web says 90cm as a fully grown, do they get that big in captivity? Whats a more realistic size in a large aquarium?
  3. Whoa! Got stocked? That is awesome! Wouldnt like the maintenance costs, maybe a job at a public aquarium that you can kinda customise would be the answer Something to aim for anyway henward, we believe in you!
  4. They are looking awesome man! Colouring up nicely, i cant wait
  5. Look like pvc drain piping cut to length?
  6. I was going to go on a tea tree stump mission one day, had a really cool bit that is now with davidR in one of his tanks. Also thought that a nice branch structure from a tea tree or similar inverted so that the trunk or thick bit is up and the branching branches are down kinda like roots. Thought it may have been easier to find than a nice rooty stump. Anyway that probably doesnt help you much, but agree with what the others have said, low light plants anubis, and java fern maybe, on wood. Will be again along similar lines to what i will be doing... even the festae!!!
  7. Looking good, Dels are awesome, mine have been raised on a dark gravel and their base colour is almost olive... looks pretty good, not the same colour contrast as yours tho.
  8. The bigger crays sometimes are easier to get, my father and friends have all had large crays advance out of caves at them only to be picked up and carried to the surface. The one my dad got just wrapped its legs around his chest and "held on" while he ascended.
  9. Was in the queue years ago mate.... i think i can see you back there somewhere  haha, will take a force of nature to pry the dels off henward, that or a stupid amount of money!
  10. Haha what david said, im not looking to move mine on
  11. Lol, 4 is enough! I got two, wouldnt mind 4 of them, but 2 will do.
  12. Yeah will throw the dats and ornates in it, may look at a larger cichlid or two, possibly female texas/jag/festae... ? Putting a 4x2 under the legs in the opp direction to the floor boards would have been a good idea to spread the weight. The tank with a sump that size is a fair weight (pushing 800/900kgs?) on ?inch thick floorboards, obviously a bit late to change easily now but good luck Dont you have dels at henwards??
  13. Nice tank man, good solid looking base! Loving that big sump! I just picked my new one 6x2x2 up in the weekend, just me and my mate lifted the bloody thing... Would have been nice to have 7 people, although when going through doorways etc there is often only room for two! Mine will be running a 3foot sump an an fx5, currently over-reinforcing the stand and painting it... Cant wait to get water in it.
  14. Watch a few vids of them on youtube, they are really quick! They aint the slugs they appear to be!
  15. Im sure you understood what i meant... technically its a hybrid of sorts isnt it? Half EB and half normal, they are both different varieties of JD?
  16. AFAIK its not actually a colour change, im sure there are some that may argue, i believe its just a term used to describe the colour genetics of the EBJD x normal JD hybrids. They will just look like normal dempseys, so thats why breeders need to be careful not to mix the hybrids and again why they shouldnt be sold... easily confused with the normal one.
  17. Pretty sure the answer to that question is no. Crossing EBJDxJD gives you what they call ?green jack dempseys, which will look like normal JD's. In order to get EBJD you need to cross EBJD with a green JD. And about a half of the offspring should be EBJD. Assuming a simple recessive/dominant relationship, (2x2 punnet square, two genes for colour in each parent) in reality im sure its more complicated. Crossing two greens together giving quarter of offspring as EBJD. There is a fair amount of info out there try the EBJD forum... People also DONT recommend you sell the EBJD x JD green offspring... Diluting the pure strain population around the place i believe is the reason, would be a shame to lose our pure wild strain (well if thats what they really are... Ill assume thats what they are, cause thats the best we got here in NZ) Anyway HTH, someone please correct me if im wrong, thats just kinda what i can remember...
  18. Nice, did you purchase it recently? A decent group of them would be sweet.
  19. Lol, exactly what i was thinking... not particularly rare
  20. Seconded, dont buy a silver aro for a 4 foot tank, unless you have a larger tank for it to go in, which may be your intention as you have a 6 foot tank dont you? Even that wont be big enough for that long.
  21. My bad, Sweet as then... your right two is not enough. Ive literally been on a different planet for the last few weeks, no phone/internet, so outa touch.... May have to check with my LFS again
  22. Pointless threads FTW! Small group is an understatement, half the FNZAS community want his dels.... which subsequently may be a bit of an overstatement anyway theres definately a few of us. I managed to grab a couple dels just before xmas, havnt seen any since and my LFS said the suppliers didnt have any more at the time. I went away for 3 weeks and came back to find they had doubled in size sweet!
  23. Fold the tail over so that its curled back against the body, hold it firmly over the end of the tail so that it cannot open/flap its tail and put it head first in to boiling water, hold it until it has died, otherwise they splash around and its horrible. You can freeze them to kill them also but that can take a really long time, some argue that its more humane than straight into boiling water... Up to you, one may be painful and quick, and the other slow and not so painful? Either way its going to end up, well you know the rest. Good luck, its never a pleasent job, hopefully it wont taint the meal
  24. Wicked, im looking to build a big stand too, nice to see it can be done! What thickness ply did you go for on the top? Loving the sheet art too
  25. Agreed, doesnt look overstocked. Keep the AT too!
