we do have fish that we will be transfering at the same time

We will be getting a new tank on the weekend and was wondering: Can i just set up the filter in our existing tank for the bacteria to grow? If i do this will it mean that i dont need to wait for the new tank to cycle? or would i be better off just cycling the tank on its own?

Bruce will always be Bruce... how could we change names now when we so fondly refer to him as Bruce.

I was just researching but all links refer to the apple snail (for mystery snail link) and it says they are not asexual and we only have one Bruce. So I assume nothing will happen as we have no manly snail to go and deal to Bruce's eggs.

Bruce is our blue mystery snail. Is there anything we should do or can we just leave them and hope for the best?

So its Sunday, the day i usually do my water change. My question is if i test the water pre change and it does not show elevated levels of nitrate do i need to change the water? Or are there other nasties that i am also removing aswell that arnt really tested for? My test strips showed 0ppm nitrite and 20-40ppm nitrate.

We are looking for a display tank for our lounge. Some of the ones advertised on TM with stands are terrible. :facepalm:

Looking at second had tanks and there are so many ugly stands. Do people just buy a tank then go to the op shop and buy the ugliest thing they can find to put it on? :dunno: Maybe I should stop being tight with my money and buy a brand new one. Rant over. :facepalm:

Mr Bris has been live with my fighter and a platy for a while. Mrs Bris Bris in the community tank. He really had some serious damage when I moved him. I am aprehensive of putting them together again.

Our lady BN kept beating up our male BN so now he lives in a different tank. Our golden BN is a lady as well and lives in the same tank as our other lady BN. Can I move a lady in with the man or will he get the smack around again?

I know platys will get it on with any other tyoe of platy but what about BN? If you had a plain ole BN and a golden BN would they get it on to make babies? And if they would are they hard to breed?

how long will my little fish (Fighter, Platy and BN) last without their air pump and heater?

I think I need to get the manual for the camera - just a new camera and haven't fiddled much with it.

How come when I come here you guys always have amazing photos but I can't manage to get good shots of my fish? Do I need a special lens? PLease tell me the secret.

There is no left over food on the bottom of the tank. I am used to fedding my fish at school - one Siamese a platy and a BN. I know 1 algee wafter, and 1/3 of a brine shrimp block seem to be the right amount for them.

So the fact it was gone is 2 minutes means... they are still hungry or I did good?

I am on fish duty this weekend as Bev is away. How much are you meant to feed fish? We have 7 Gourami, 6 Rasbora, 5 Rummy nose tetra, 6 Glass cats and 2 BN. They seem so hungry but how would I know if they are tricking me and they are not hungry? Also - I stuck some algee wafers in for the BN and someone else ate them. Who out of that lot would be keen on them as well. I know it wasn't the BN bros as they were not interested whe I put them in. Not even ten minutes later they were gone. Tonight I fed them a cube of Brine shrimp and a pinch of flakes... is this enough?

Think we have decided to get rid of the neons and get more Rasbora or rummy nose.

O yea, we have harlequins too.

Thinking of adding some new fish to our tank but to add we need to get rid of some... Do we get rid of our neon tetras and replace with something that has blue in it or do we get rid of our rummy nose and find something with interesting markings on it. What would you get rid of and what would you add? We have Tetras (rummynose and neon), Glass cats, Moonlight and dwarf blue gourami, platys (red wag and sunset) and a couple of bristle nose - so whatever we get needs to fit in with these guys. Thinking of dwarft neon gourami but opent to other ideas.

Can you break one in half so we can see what it looks like in the middle? I am of an understanding by just looking at them that they are in fact not mushrooms and perhaps some form of alien egg sack. I would look out if I were you...

By perked up I mean he is dead. Turns out he had a run in with the gravel siphion (sp) thing a couple of days ago. Think he must have had some internal issues due to that.

Sigh - he has perked up a little now. I hope he is just having a hard time pooing. He has stopped hiding in the corner and he is swimming about with his buddy. It is a little disheartening when fish die.
