  2. I can't believe the amount of negative comment I read on the page. If you have the money to do sweet things like that then do it. Seem not only NZ suffers fro tall poppy syndrome.
  3. Do you think the fish hear the Jaws music when she sits there?
  4. Wont be there today guys, but I hope its a good meeting.
  5. A pic of our new tank, Its a Jewel Rio 240 The current inhabitants are: 6 Platys 3 Moonlight Gourami 1 Gold Gourami 1 Pearl Gourami 1 Dwarf Gourami 3 GBA 1 BN and 1 Blue Mystery Snail Future plans include some Angel Fish, some tetras to replace the platys, and some more plants. I was suprised to find new growth on some of the crypts despite them only being in the tank for 2 weeks.
  6. Any tips to setting up a blackwater aquarium, what type of substrate, use of peat etc
  7. I was reading that the low PH affects the BB colonies requireing more frequent waterchanges and monitoring of the water conditions
  8. approx 240 Litres. External dimensions 121x41x55. I have just been reading that maintaining a black water aquarium is alot more work, does anyone else agree?
  9. Its a Jewel Rio 240, I want to set it up as a new home for my Gouramis + a few friends. Miss HW wants Angels and something bright and colourful like the dwarf cichlids. Perhaps I could mix the two as the require similar water chemistry. Ideas anyone?
  10. Yes - I imagine so... we have already been discussing gravel and the simple stuff. I think there will be a lot of research about what looks the best etc.
  11. and it is cool but having to wait to set it up is not so much. I bought it from MrHW as his birthday present. I feel I need a medal for being such an awesome GF. :happy1:
  12. Ours is a lady - she has never been in a bare tank. Hopefully it is just her getting older. We have had her about 6 months.
  13. She has got quite pale. We had her in the sick tank and wondered if she was having a problem with the salt that was being added to treat it so we moved her to the tank with the fighter in it. She is still pale so I am hoping she is just growing. The sick tank is all healthy again now (I think).
  14. as it got bigger? We can't decide if ours is growing bigger so getting light or if there is something bad happening to her... just curious.

has built a bubble nest. Unfortunately he has ripped out all of the ambulia in the tank to make it. Would this be a sign that our tank is now healthy again after the columnaris out break which killed 2/3rds of out fish.
  21. Most likely the roids will make their scales paper thin and they will get skin tears super easy. Topical steroids sound impressive but they are not nearly as awesome as the dodgy ones. I have been covering up in the stuff for 27 years and there is not a muscle to be found on me. (Miss HW) *Wanders off to apply more roids to skin*
  22. Whle the Hydrocortisone is insoluble it is the compounds that make up the cream that I would be concerned about.
  23. Gonna sound stupid but do you have a the thin creme base option or the thick sticky option?
