  1. The problem with living so far from town is that I can't just pop into wet pets and ask how to fix them. We have 5 gourami all up (soon to be 4 I feel) - I figure we can treat for consitpation tonight (how do you spell that? My firefox updated and stole my spell check option) as I have peas at home. We don't have a isolation tank either which is a bummer - I am in the process of organising one.
  2. pretty much all have the same look to them and symptoms. I have been researching as one of our blue dwarf gouramis really isn't looking to flash. Tested the water and all the parameters are fine and dandy. We had a sick platy a few days ago but symptoms and looks are completely different (said platy was taken in the rapture). How do you know what to treat for when consitipation and bloat due to other issues look the same? &c:ry I am ok with losing the odd platy as they are pretty cheap and live bearers. Not ok with losing a gourami that cost me $25 though.
  3. Sweet - my tank is at 25 atm. What do I trust to be more accurate at telling the temp? I have a thermometer on the outside of the tank or the heater in the tank? As they both say different things?
  4. What temp do you keep your Fighter in?
  5. Platy has been salt dipping and he is looking better already. One of them died yesterday, I am hoping our last one will be happy and fixed soon.
  6. We've done a couple of salt dips will see how it goes.
  7. Water quality is pretty awesome now - Will do a water change again tomorrow just to make sure it is all good. I don't know if I should put some more platys in (another 2) or remove her and put her in the tank at home.
  8. No we don't use it - should we be? We did get a bunch of average plants one time and too cheap to throw them away without giving thema go. The tank is 165l and water change every weekend. We have a few too many fish but are getting a second tank on the weekend so will split them up. 5 gouramis, 5 platys, 5 rummy noses, 6 neons, 3 glass cats, 6 Rasboras, 2 bristlenoses.
  9. Nope - what is that and what does it do?
  10. Here is the best pic I could get
  11. Will try get a pic - our tank is in the wrong spot for pictures - too many lights and windows in the dining room and we get a lot of glare. Bev is going to try anyway.
  12. We are having a real problem with our platys - three dead last week. Now two in our tank (sunset ones) with their fins ripped to pieces and little white spots on them. Need to know what to do about the white spots and fins and suggestions on who may be giving them a hard time. We have Moon light Gouramis, Dwarf blue Gouramis, Neon and Rummynose tetras, red Wag Playts (which are fine apart from the dead one last week), Glass cats, Harlequin Rasbora and two brisltenoses. Who would beat up a poo little platy out of that lot? How can we fix them?
  13. Well your feed back has been very insightful and well thought out. Now can we get over the KY (one day some of you might get to use it) and return to the topic at hand?
  14. We were told not to put fighters with guppies. What do you feed your fight though? I was watching my guy eat tonight and he seems to spit out everything I feed him. Eats flakes in the morning but when I feed brine shrimp he sucks them in thenspits them right out. I want to feed the little guy but not sure what he wants.
  15. We have a fluval U3 and agree that the tank is overstocked however we don't seem to have any problems at the moment. Looking into a new tank in the next couple of days as well. The background is a little average but the backgrounds in the shops around here are just as average at the moment. Will have to have a look around when we go to Wellington.
  16. Hello all, My partner are I new to the forums and relativly new to the hobby (got out first tank Sept last year) we are learning new things everyday. I enjoy sitting and watching them, especially when they eat. At home we have a tropical fresh water community tank about 165L (pic below). In it we have: 3 Moonlight Gourami 2 Dwarf Blue Gourami 3 Sunset Plattys 2 Red Wag Plattys 6 Harlequin Rasbora 6 Neon Tetras 5 Rummy Nose Tetra 3 Glass Cats 1 Brown Bristlenose 1 Golden Bristlenose and a few platty fry. I look forward to hearing your feed back and suggestions
  17. I am going to be in Wellington on the 4th of June and could grab a load to drop off on the way. Are we allowed to post contact details on here?
  18. I have friends with a tank that has a real snail problem. I can't be sure if they are ramshorns or trumpets (they are red) but if anyone wants some of their snails let me know - they are trying to get rid of them. They have a cull every week of about 50 at a time so if you have something that eats them and are in the Manawatu area let me know.
  19. There is only one left and she is a female - when I have it all sorted again I will add another couple so she is not lonesome.
  20. He is a lovely little guy - we feed wafers and he has a piece of driftwood that he has made his home. I might buy him some veges as a treat.
  21. Yay - three alive fish again. I will now stop thinking that Mr Bris is evil and a killer. What do you all feed your bristlenoses?
  22. Teaching is not just a 9-3 job. I have a Tangi tomorrow so I need to organise some work for my class to do while I am out.
  23. Hoping they are all alive tomorrow too. I dreamt about them all night last night. Woke up at six ready to go to school but held off until nine. Will spend some quality time with them tomorrow when I hang out at school for the day.
  24. We used to have a red spot pleco who was about 32cm long. It got too big for our tank and we had to rehome it - broke my heart as it was a cool fish. We took him to wet pets in PN so they could find him a new home. Tank has never been so clean without all the strings of poo everywhere now though.
