  1. Why is it that you can have more tropical fish (more cm per litre of water) than coldwater fish in the same size tank?
  2. Thank you to those that have been helpful! I found something I'm interested in getting, depending on the price... I'll probably end up getting it anyway... but if it's expensive I'll save up. It's the Eheim Automatic Gravel cleaner that uses batteries. I'm a girl lol So this is the first time I've ever used a siphon! My husband had a bit more success than I did. My new tank is lower to the ground than the little one is so I'm guessing it's going to be even harder now Honestly, I think the instructions on the back of the pack were wrong. It says to have it so many cms from the gravel. All that happens is that the crap gets pulled up and then floats around in the water. GRRR
  3. ?? lol ok..... I don't have a pump. It's a manual one.
  4. Oh and 7 is my favourite number lol It's lucky!
  5. Mine is the 29th, 1978. My daughter Sophie who is 4 was born on the 9th September 2006 at 6:06am lol
  6. Yes soup is good though I've only ever made my own soup once and can't remember as it was sooo long ago. I usually get the Watties Big N Hearty soups. We usually have soup for dinner once a week. I will have to call my nana again and get her vegetable soup recipe ... I loved her vege soup as a kid and could have 3 bowls lol I love vege soup and pumpkin soup.
  7. Well I must be doing it wrong because it's just siphoning water out but not sucking up the gunk. And it barely gets water out as it is. It trickles instead of flowing. I can't even take 15-25% out with it. Is there an electric one?
  8. Oh well I can't take them back now lol They seem to be doing fine. And they were in the same tank with the coldwater fish in the coldwater fish section. ?
  9. I have no idea what I'm doing lol When I use my gravel vacuum it just sucks the dirt up and then it floats around in the water and makes the water all dirty instead of going up the vacuum. So I have given up. The gravel really isn't getting very dirty as I've been feeding the minnows bloodworms as they wouldn't eat goldfish flakes and now they are actually eating the food it's not going yucky at the bottom of the tank. They were eating some, but not really interested in it. The dirt is mostly from the silly oxy shell I got which I won't be using anymore. When I use the gravel vacuum it makes the oxy shell stuff float around in the water so it's cloudy. GRRR It's a manual vacuum. I forgot to ask at Animates if there was a better solution/way to clean the gravel. Is there an electric version of gravel vacuum or something easier to use?
  10. Ok thanks for that. I just wondered really, why they were in such small containers. If that's normal then that's good Yes, it is a big store and lovely. They are very helpful too ... for beginners like me! I had to ask a lot of questions and even forgot one. Doh lol
  11. I've been on a diet since mid January. Need to lose total of about 36kg from memory. I've lost about 8kg so far. Haven't been doing well at all over Winter ... I find I want to eat a lot more when it's cold. I'm 163cm tall and I'm 88.8kg at the moment.
  12. I'm 32 like my username lol Born October 78.
  13. This was at Animates - new store in Takanini. The things they were in were tiny. Seriously, they were smaller than my 15L tank. I know they are tropical fish. I wasn't planning on getting any. One day... when I have a bigger tank maybe. Doh sorry I just realized why you said they aren't coldwater lol Sorry I should have posted this in the tropical section... my bad
  14. I know it's not big enough for a goldfish. I am sticking with guppies and minnows until I can afford to get a bigger tank. Or I might not get goldfish ever and just get another 64L tank eventually and have some small tropical fish in there. I just need to know how many minnows or guppies I can put in the 64L tank. I have 2 minnows and 5 guppies. If I got another 3 minnows would it be too many fish?
  15. Is it strange/cruel that the Betas would be kept in tiny little cubes of water (maybe 1 or 2 litre) all separately at the pet shop? Is there are reason for this? Is it because they will fight with each other? I just didn't understand it and they looked so sad they barely had room to move.
  16. I just got a 64L tank today and the lady at Animates said the rule is 2 litres per cm of fish. Is that right? I already have 2 minnows and 5 guppies. Can I get anymore or is that it? Seriously I am not sure it's 64L as I used a bucket which is 10L to fill it and I am sure I used about 8-9 buckets of water and there is still a huge gap from the top of the water to the top of the tank. I haven't measured the height or width but it's 60cm long. It looks to be about 30cm width but the height looks about 45cm.... And I have a gap of about 10cm from the top of the water to the top of the tank. I will take a photo tomorrow.
  17. Well I just got a bigger tank today. So I have more fish now lol But before when I asked the question I just had 2 minnows in a 15L tank because I learnt after purchasing the overpriced tank from The Warehouse that it wasn't big enough. Anyway, so I just got a 64L tank today. Now I have the 2 minnows and 5 guppies. I haven't put the guppies in the new tank yet. I've set it up and the filter is on. I put the guppies in with the minnows in the 15L for tonight and tomorrow when it's warm enough (not in the morning! lol) I will put all the fish into the 64L tank.
  18. So is the filter in my aquarium meant to be running 24/7 or what? I've just been putting it on and off through the day and the water looks really good still. I clean my tank once a week. Might be getting a bigger tank soon. I hope.
  19. LOL Where is the emoticon of the smiley rolling on the floor laughing?
  20. I like the name Phoenix. I also like Dakota but I think that's used for a girl only... not sure. My nephews name is Rowan Top names on my boys list at the moment are Ethan, Reuben and Kenneth.
  21. I did. Though how often do kids get called by their full name? The only time I use their full name is when they have done something wrong/naughty.... my dad used to do the same with me LOL
  22. Seriously? Some people should be banned from naming children. This is a good names website - http://www.behindthename.com I had the same problem when I was pregnant ... had tons of girls names on the list but only a few boys names. We have two girls so in the end it didn't matter. The only thing that matters is that YOU like the names. Not what anyone else thinks. I have a specific way I choose names LOL The names have to have good meanings and if there is a middle name the names have to sound right together when you say them.... Our first daughters name is Abigail Mariah but we call her Abby. Our second daughters name is Sophia Charlize but we call her Sophie. I always pick names that can be shortened ie Abby is good for a little girl but when she's older she can go by Abigail. I just think Abby doesn't sound like a name for an elderly lady. And the same for Sophie. It's good on a little girl but doesn't sound right to me for an elderly lady LOL Maybe I'm just crazy....
