  1. I thought of this game where someone names a movie with a fish/marine animal in it and whatever the last letter of the last word in the title is, that must be the first letter of the next title. Here goes.... The Cat In The Hat.
  2. doh! Ok, but how would it work because one end has the suction part on it and the other end is tube and that's where the water and dirt comes out. How would I attach it to the pump?
  3. Just name all of them Nemo  Well I have named all mine so far but I don't have a lot and I can (I think lol )tell them all apart. There are two that look almost identical so I forget which is which. But the rest are so different I couldn't get them mixed up. Names- Tiny, Nemo (named by the kids lol), Longtail or Rainbow... depending on who you ask lol, Dorothy or Sunshine depends on who you ask, Tiger, Spot, Rosie. Tiny and Nemo are my minnows and the rest are guppies.
  4. Sesame St. Morning or night?
  5. Don't you hate when that happens..... lol
  6. Yes well they will have to come later, when I am back to work. At the moment we're living on just one income and so I'll have to make do with my coldwater tank for now. I think my fish will be fine with a total of 12 because I do my gravel clean and water change once a week. And they seem to be happy. I guess only time will tell....
  7. I was going to upload some photos of our 2 cats but someone's been playing around with the computer and for some reason one of the plugs to our external harddrive which has all our photos on it is missing GRRRRR :an!gry Anyway, will get hubby to fix up his mistake when he comes home. In the meantime, like I said we have two cats both female. Mischief is a dark tortoiseshell and Cleo is a ginger tabby. Mischief has gone walkies 2x and the first time she came home after almost 3 months, the second time she came home after 5 1/2 months and she was fine No idea where she had been all that time but she hasn't gone missing since the last time... think it's been about 2 years since the last time. Hopefully that's it. She is 12 years old. Cleo is about 9 years old. We used to have 3 cats but Kitty went missing and never came home. He was our only male cat. My husband brought him home after rescuing him from the neighbours very tall tree....  In the past I've had mice, rabbits and one guinea pig. We had 4 rabbits in total. The first 2 I got from someone that decided she had too many, the 3rd was from a lady whos kids had lost interest in theirs, the 4th I got from the pet shop. Unfortunately no matter how dog proof we made the rabbit hutch, a dog got inside it and squashed the baby rabbit (#4). The 3rd rabbit was also killed by a dog and kids as some little scumbag took it from the hutch and gave it to their dog to play with and then chucked it down the drain across the road. The first 2 died naturally. The guinea pig we got from a friend who got 2 from someone on Trade Me and wasn't told that one was male and one was female so I got roped into taking one. This was after I'd decided I no longer wanted hutch animals because of the problems with dogs getting to them. Anyway, so it's just the cats and fish now. One day I may get a Jack Russell. I like dogs but with having 2 cats and a tight budget we can't afford to have a dog at the moment. I want a Jack Russell because that was my great grandfathers name lol Jack Fraser Russell And Fraser just happens to now be my last name since getting married LOL
  8. Yeah I just read about that too. I hope it's nothing to worry about. I would be freaking out. Thankfully we don't live near water. But we live in Auckland and are surrounded by volcanoes lol Apparently we had a small earthquake here recently but I didn't feel anything. It was only 2. something on the richter scale.
  9. Thanks. I had a look on the net last night but I found it hard to find any websites that have a good list of freshwater aquatic plants with names and pictures. Do you know of any?
  10. Thanks for that. I googled the scientific name... apparently it's a calicoplant. I think my mum has had this in her garden. Will have to ask her. It seems to be doing ok... but it's only been in there for about 6 days. The other plant I have seems ok. Hopefully they will both be fine. I really like the calicoplant.
  11. We also have Skittles Sours. I haven't tried them yet.
  12. Skittles are my favourite But the reason behind the multi colored gravel is that the tank is in my girls room and I thought they would like a girly tank lol
  13. lol that's probably what will end up happening eventually.... I'll end up with my coldwater, a tropical AND a marine tank! lol
  14. I thought that would be the case. Unfortunately I don't have a pump. Just the filter. What is the purpose of a pump? Probably a stupid question but hey, this is all new to me lol I'm going to see how I go tomorrow using the gravel vacuum and if it still doesn't work then I will either get the Eheim Automatic gravel cleaner or get a pump. Depending on which is cheaper probably....
  15. Would love to have a clown fish and a tang lol but they probably need a much higher temp than you could have minnows and guppies etc in?
  16. Thanks ... I don't know what any of those ones you mentioned look like. Will have to google. I want to get fish with bright coloring/lots of colors. I like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink... so basically all the colors but I am not into brown, black, white.
  17. I got a plant bunch from Animates on Friday and it's got green/pink leaves and I don't think they were there when I got it, but today I noticed it has some white flowers on it. At first I thought it was mould or something because they are fluffy but they are flowers. Anyone know what it could be? I will try to post a photo of it.
  18. I was thinking of getting a heater and light and having tropicals in there. But could I keep my minnows and guppies with danios and tetras? What other tropical fish could I have with them?
  19. I have mine about 5-7cm above the gravel because on the instructions it said to have it so many cms above. When I clean it on Friday I will put it in the gravel and see if it makes a difference. I also found a video on YouTube of someone cleaning their tank with a gravel vacuum so I will watch it just before I do mine and hopefully it will work this time!
  20. I don't know... but I think with the minnows and cold water guppies I should be able to have 12 fish total in a 64L tank. I don't see why it would be too much. I clean my tank once a week. They have so much room IMO.... and they don't even really seem to use it. They tend to stick to one area and groups of about 3 and don't really swim around that much unless they are eating stuff off the gravel or swimming for food I've just put in the tank. They tend to stick to the sides.
  21. Maybe... I don't have goldfish because I only have a 64L tank so I just have minnows and cold water guppies (not true guppies... they are cross bred with other fish I think and have multiple colorings on them and spots. Mine are yellow, pink, blue like you get tortoiseshell cats with different colors). Anyway, I thought a 64L would be too small for tropical fish but I've seen so many 64L tanks with tropical fish in them on YouTube etc.... Also they usually have heaps of plants and rocks etc in them and mine has hardly anything in it so my fishies have a lot of room to move in.
