  1. No it was before. That's why I got the Dine... thinking maybe it had something to do with her diet. She's actually been happier since we started the Dine. I didn't see her do the crazy thing for about 10 days. And I took her collar (with bell) off last night thinking maybe it was that that is annoying her and making her go crazy... so we will see. But she has been wearing it for about the last 6 months.
  2. It is a coldwater tank, however I have a heater now and was told that the 'coldwater guppies' are not really coldwater and prefer warmer temps and the goldfish is being moved into an outside pond. If I have to I have a 15L tank I can move the WCMMs to if 25C is too much for them, however it's already been higher than that and they seemed to be fine. And I want to get fancy guppies so it will be a tropical tank As soon as I can move the goldfish! (and after I get my water conditions right!)
  3. Thanks Snowman. Thank you for the offer of the filter and GBA. It's much appreciated. Let me know when the filter is ready and we can arrange a day & time for pickup. Thanks again
  4. Sorry forgot to say I'd already treated (wormed) both cats when I found the tapeworm on me from Cleo. So they've been wormed. Then I treated them with the Revolution and have been doing it each month since. I don't think it's the food as it's only just started happening and they've both been on a biscuit only diet for years. But I've recently started buying Dine for them to have as well. Because they are sick of biscuits. I think I would be too if I ate them every day of my life lol And I'm putting water down for them but they just don't drink it. :dunno: Yet, Mischief still goes into the showerbox to drink water from it lol
  5. Only if they have tapeworms. And Revolution kills the flea larvae and fleas, hence the cat doesn't ingest fleas so cannot get tapeworm. Tapeworms come from fleas. Unless they get the other type of tapeworm that comes from rodents/birds. The vet told me it was best to worm them about 1-2x a year. I've done my homework
  6. I have heard of that happening. I will have to have a look at her. If she has fleas I'll find them LOL I used to de-flea the cats by hand. Been doing it for years. Honestly though, if it's fleas I doubt what she is doing would be because of fleas, as she has never done this before and she has spent years of her life not being treated with Revolution and she never did this before.
  7. So my 4 year old just started kindy (ECE) last Friday and I have to go with her as they only take potty trained kids and she is Autistic and isn't potty trained. So I'm going to take some books with me. Since I have been thinking about getting myself a book on different freshwater (coldwater and tropical) fish and information about them with pictures and another on freshwater fish care ... basically about everything you need to know lol I thought I'd get some fish books to take with me to read. Can anyone suggest good books? Other than fish related books, the only other thing I'm really interested in reading is Stephen King books  and I've read most of his books. I will have to go to the bookstore soon and see if there are any new SK books out. The last one I read was Under The Dome.
  8. Our budget inc. everything is over $3800 a month. Taking into consideration I suffer from OCD so our water bill is always way more than it should be and so is our power bill... having fish isn't exactly gonna help that HAHA Not that they use much water & power.... That's everything.... including saving for things such as house and car maintenance, dentist, doctor, optometrist, medications, cats Revolution, computer related costs such as paper and ink...... insurance for the car, house etc.... superannuation, alarm monitoring..... it's a long list. Currently (on the most current budget we've done) we have about $90 left each month. We spend about $15 a week on takeaways.
  9. That is a big spider... looks like a huntsman? Whatever it is it freaked me out HAHA I am terrified of spiders. I can handle small ones and daddy long legs but anything bigger such as white tails freak me out. We've had some pretty big white tails in our house before
  10. Sounds like my one. Could I use both? Yep I had a look online lol A bristlenose right? From the catfish family? It says online that they like low PH... about 6.5 from memory. Whereas the guppies like a higher PH. ? What can I feed the GBA? At the moment I have goldfish flakes, pellets, tropical fish flakes and bloodworms. No I only add what I need for the water I'm putting in. So yeah, 20L would be 40 drops.
  11. Ok thanks So should I do a 15-25% water change daily, or just every second day? And what about salt? Stop using it or not?
  12. Yeah apparently they are good cats to have if you have kids! Although, our ginger tabby Cleo is pretty chilled out and rarely bites or scratches... she is very tolerant. However, Mischief is totally intolerant... doesn't take much of anything to make her get shitty and bite/scratch. She's always been like that since she was a kitten lol
  13. Just one thing... most of my fish seem to have fin/tail rot. Can just doing water changes get rid of it? I thought you needed antibiotics to treat it?
  14. ( I hope it's nothing serious. I love Birmans. My favourite cat! I was going to get one in 1999 when I moved into this place by myself but I was too impatient back then... had to wait 12 weeks and I couldn't wait that long   But I was really lonely! Now I have a whole family. I was thinking recently about Birmans.... maybe when Mischief dies (which will hopefully be from old age) I will get a Birman. I also like Ragdolls... Our other cat Cleo is about 9-10 years old. She is happy and healthy.
  15. Our water is from United Water. Papakura is on a contract for so many years with them. So even though there is no Papakura Council anymore, we still have our water provided from United Water. I emailed them a long time ago and asked them if they could email me something about their water supply so I could see what the PH level etc was. I don't think I have it anymore though. The PH was fine. I don't remember if they test the chlorine level though, as they add it to the water. :dunno:
  16. What kind of filter is that Snowman? Does it use noodles and filter wool? Would it work for my 64L tank? If so, I would definitely be interested. I don't think my husband would agree to me buying a new filter ... as I've already spent heaps on these fish already! What's a GBA? I have white cloud mountain minnows, wild guppies and the one goldfish in there. The goldfish is going to be moved into the bathtub pond outside as soon as the water is right.
  17. Ok I will stop adding salt. As for the Stress Coat/Stress Zyme... only reason I was using it was because Animates didn't have normal Water Ager. Can you get Water Ager in larger bottles? The ones they sell at the supermarket are tiny and when you're meant to add 2 drops per litre and you have a 64 litre tank it isn't going to last very long.
  18. Well today I saw Mischief nipping at her sides again and this time she was actually pulling on her fur. So I will have to give the vet a call.
  19. The guy from the LFS told me to use Ammo-Lock. But I do have Stress Zyme Plus which says it gets rid of Ammonia and Nitrite. My nitrate and nitrite levels were tested on Saturday and there was no nitrite or nitrate.
  20. Yeah I have noticed the other guppy and the goldfish are recovering... the blood streaks and blotches on the goldfishes body are slowly fading and it's swimming around. I think they both had swimbladder, though the guppy is fine now.. the goldfish is still going straight upwards sometimes... yesterday it was flipping and going on it's side and up and down. It just didn't seem to be able to float normally. I added salt yesterday when I did the water change and also this morning when I did a water change. Do you think that's ok? Most of the fish still have fin/tail rot. But the ich seems to be gone.
  21. I only found out on Saturday that the PH was only 6.0. Last time I checked the PH it was 7.6 or over. Not sure why it went down so much. The guy at the LFS said I could use a product he showed me but he said because the water hardness is not at the right level, that the PH can go up and just go back down again in the space of one day. I will have to go back to the LFS on Saturday and see if I can get PH up instead. I'm doing water changes of about 30% daily at the moment. Because my ammonia level was between .5-1ppm and because of the PH being so low. Is that good? Apparently the nitrite test was 0 and the nitrates was also 0.
  22. Ah ok Mark thank you very much. All I care about is that the water is clear so I have a good view of the fishies... don't like the idea of having water that's dirty. Obviously I'm doing too much cleaning  So I will cut down.
  23. The sponge is on the thing that goes into the water that sucks the water into it and then it goes up the pipe into the filter. If you know what I mean... The filter doesn't have ceramics/noodles or anything like that. It's just a cartridge one. I use 2 carbon cartridges and 2 bioclear ones... it's a Marina S20 slim filter.
  24. I gravel vacuum and siphon out about 25-30% water once a week. I only clean the ornaments and filter sponge about once a month, once every two months ... as it's needed. I clean the sides of the tank about once a month.
