  1. Yeah, I'm thinking the juwel vision 260 would look good in a bedroom, maybe as a cichlid setup, in keeping with the other tanks you have... hows the other tank going?
  2. man, when I had guppies, I thought the six or so every now and again was a good lot, but then again, I wondered why people complained they got over run with fry. Now I know why

I think your lemon tetra will learn to school with the blood fins although most likely not as close, I've had some very mixed tetra schools made up of older fish from groups that have died off over time leaving individual fish that have joined bigger schools of other tetra quite well. It would however do better with other lemons one would think, I just wouldn't add anything more until the filter is sorted.
  4. Sorry to hear, looked like a really nice fish. And I would think maybe a bacterial thing in the gut, I don't think it looked too much like dropsy.
  5. Eh, found him dead this morning, slightly surprised as he was swimming around etc yesterday but then again, he did only have half a face left.Prob better in the end
  6. Ok, this is one of the two I got off you, the other one is fine, its just this one, might have to make it less painful for him, unfortunately in the same way you did. How long did it go for before you sent them to the toilet bowl in the sky?
  7. ok, with the moth not growing back thing (not unexpected mind you), what do you think the best way to feed him is? Think he'll make it in the long run? Bits of his head are still peeling off a little too...
  8. Hi, had this guy for a few months now, bought of trademe with another. Noticed a week or so ago that he had a lifted scale or something on his lip but didn't think much of it as he was still swimming happily around and eating well and so thought he must have knocked it etc. But, as you can see, its gotten much much worse with the lip coming off (know idea when) and although he's still swimming around, he's not very happy and it lots like its going to get worse somehow, not sure if he's even eating - i suspect not with the lack of half a mouth and all.Any ideas? I've got a 20l tank that he could possible move into, if I could catch him etc but the plantings slightly bare which is where he likes it in the main tank now (240l), and he's not being harrased or anything so I've left him for the time being. Medicate it, wait it out or euthinase? All ears
  9. Yeah, its the one with the better personality that wins in the end What colour females are you trying to pair him up with?
  10. Had a similar problem with mine, but I didn't even get to the building a proper nest to put them in, let me know if you have any luck in getting things sorted. As for the nicest always being the egg eaters, it must be a vainty thing
  11. ha, so what wou;d you call my 20l? Your not planning on any more spawns soonish are you? If so, do you ship fish? Nice, I get the same feeling here somehow
  12. if 70 litres is a nano to you, my four footer must be a mini to you. 8) Any inhabitants in there or just the plants?
  13. Managed to get two chains quite cheap so they're in there for a bit, will add a third soonish but maybe just keep the three loaches and the female betta for a bit - my male bristle nose in the community tank is guarding a cave in the drift wood so if its eggs and any survive the 15 odd loaches in there (not to mention everything else), i'll do a swap and use this tank as a small grow out tank where in theory the mortality rate will be lower... unfortunately I don't have anything bigger to use/have no space for anything bigger either, anyone know what size they have to be to start selling them with out a move killing them?
  14. Personally, I'd stay with an internal one (ie the pick up), I've found they have the most resistance to abuse whereas the air filter I had running previously was knocked about by the cat and little brother sometimes, causing more noise when it was running up against things or was knocked out of place, you may possibly find similar things with a four year old, if you decide to go that route.
  15. going back to the topic, maybe a flower?
  16. I know its not quite what you're looking for but the spotted hoplos (about 12cm now) I've got don't seem to mind being singular, and I'm keeping them with khulis, dwarf chains, male betta and pearl gourami at the moment without fuss, just that I think these ones max out at about 16-20cm, a little bigger than what you're looking for. See what the others think too though

    filters

I agree with dennis on this one, my girlfriend has a fairly heavily stocked cichlid juwel vision 180 with just the stock juwel filter and its fine, just need to keep up with the water changes. With tetras, the bio load won't be too high for the filter anyway, they're not that messy fish.
  18. Thought I'd replied on this one but my post has vanished - apologies for any other threads with a completly random post from me  Would have put my male betta in there but I'm wanting to keep the female happy and comfortable in the tank being the dominant fish, otherwise I fully agree about the tank being near perfect for male fighters As for Brennos, what do you mean?
  19. man, how do you get the photos to come out so well? (that'll be my excuse for having mine shown up so much ) Can you try a touched up one too, just to see what it looks like?
  20. Toxotes jaculatrix - one or two were for sale on trademe the other day, didn't think they were uncommon? took a long time for anyone to show any interest in it, not even sure if it sold
  21. Would I be pushing it with red phantom tetras? Heard that they don't need many to form a 'school' - cant remember where from though :-? Ok, I was thinking maybe 3 or so chain loaches or about the same number in khulis (I've never noticed pygmy corys in chch, unless people know where to look?) Will look at ember tetras too, will they do better with more open spaces or heavily planted? Actually, I had just been contemplating guppies, might avoid it now though What do people think of 3 chain or khuli loaches, 5 or so ember tetras and maybe an otto/ baby bristlenose, as well as the female fighter?
  22. what about touching up the photos? ie, contrast etc,is that permitted?
  23. ha, I agree about the music, but I thought the lights were actually pretty cool, I'm of the party that the fish tank is supposed to be a feature, and while may not be everyones taste, it does make it a feature.
  24. ok, excuse my asking, but what is that exactly (obviously a photo comp but where does it get you?) and how do you enter?
  25. That is awesome, does anyone here have anything similar?
