  1. just thought I'd add some more of the photos I have... Or quite a few in fact...

    neon tetra

Sounds fungal, if your treating it quickly it should be ok, see what the others think of it though, a photo if you can get one will help too
  3. Just setting up a small nano tank, likely to plant it properly (liquid ferts, possible excel carbon) but I need to know what to put in it, both plants and fish. So far I have some dwarf swords at the front, some vallis at the back in a corner and an anubias attached to some wood, sand substrate and one female fighter thats going in once its running properly. Its an ar126, so about 20 odd litres with reasonable lighting. Any ideas of other plants I could/should put in, and other inhabitants? Would prefer either a small dither fish school (I know its never going to be a large school) or some bottom dwelling guys to help with anything the fighter misses and or to keep snails down to a minimum (just knowing they'll get in there eventually) maybe photos when it clears up... we'll see Thanks, Isaac I realise its near impossible, but maybe some dwarf cichlids or loaches that may work? Even as a growing up tank for the short term...
  4. yeah, actually my locust survived for the whole lab so i ended up leaving it, kinda creepy watching it twitch every so often :-? Good ol' double standards
  5. think it looks much better with the extra rocks in, i'd maybe go a step further myself and put more in, maybe stack a few up? possiblly with some silicone to avoid it falling over though
  6. Awesome, new tank, fit them into the other or gave them away entirely? Any pics?
  7. ah, and about the tank size, I've just heard so many different answers so while I can see the general size needed, I was wondering what people here thought, and what they kept theirs in.
  8. haha, whoops, knew that size looked a little small when I typed it, shows that I should actually check th size before asking questions... and its more of a thought game at this point, (I'm keeping bristlenoses at the moment myself), by common pleco, the one I had been thinking of was hypostomus plecotomus? (Spelling is terrible i know)
  9. Ok, everyone knows that most plecos can grow quite large but what do most people think is the appropriate tank size for an adult? Say, common pleco or sail fin, 25-30cm size? And do people think it comes down to mainly tank size or is habitat/filtration etc the more important? Interested to see what the consensus on other pleco types is too.
  10. however, they (the powers that be) have ruled freshwater crayfish as illegal to do many things too, unethical and all that. So in labs at the start of the year at uni we had to state that we weren't going to be cruel to the crayfish that we had, all the insects we had however were fair game So thats one random thing to note, even though they aren't chordates or anything. I know many people aren't concerned about feeding deformed fry to larger fish at least?
  11. what, you didn't think I'd *work* for it did you? that'd be much too unrealistic...
  12. just think, you could turn the lounge into a fish room... kinda what happened here for a bit. must admit, I really like the vision range from juwel, with the tinted glass and bow front. My next tank (when I inherit millions, hopefully one day ) will be a vision 260 with extra lighting, co2 and breeding fish all over the place and you're right, two tanks is really nice to look at, can never get bored that way
  13. Cheers, hoping to get some more lights for it at some point but other than that I'm pretty happy with it
  14. lol, and the bigger tank buying starts....
  15. @ JazzyJeff Yours almost could be related to mine, although maybe with more of the good looking genes though 8)
  16. if you excuse the grubby glass.... Delta tail but can never get a good photo when his tail is more open
  17. Mint, nice to see some proper sized tetra schools around, much better than the 3 or four most people try to keep :-?
  18. man I'd love some MH's. Cant quite afford the $1700 for the four foot unit I saw the other day though....
  19. Thanks I'd been tempted to get one myself at one point just for growing plants in is all, small size would be great for using excel too. 8) I couldn't tell quite, do you have the same fish types in both tanks?
  20. Yeah, I'm not sure how well they'd do on a trip all the way up the country, disposal might be the only thing left for them at that point Barrie. Ok, I'm going to assume that no one has lost any fish to water boatmen or back swimmers? Knowing the size of some compared to neons or wcmms, I thought there may have been a few horror stories out there...
  21. @ antwan Hey, completely off topic but just saw some of your photos, you don't breed dwarf cichlids by any chance?
  22. Ah mint, nearly got one of those for my girlfriend but she wasn't too keen on the lid. Managed to find a cheap vision 180 for her with cichlids, been really happy with the internal filter in that. Must have been wrong about the gravel, got mine down here in chch from a guy off trademe. Ever thought of going live plants? You'd prob get some really away with some nice swords in the lighting and height of the tank there. Just set up a planted tank myself, great fun.
  23. ok, may look into that, I don't think he's too old, have to see. Have you managed it before?
  24. when you look up from tank planning and searching fish compatibility on the web to find that the lecture you were in is now the lecture scheduled two hours later....
  25. Guess we'll never know, unless anyone here knows a few ways to make them more interested in each other? She likes him, just he wouldn't build a nest for her, she even dropped her eggs in front of him. Very annoying...
