  1. Wow, I love them! looking forward to see what you get from these guys +1 8)
  2. this is my problem too. I too would love to hear how to avoid this
  3. With metalic colouring to pass on to the next generation
  4. True, I assume a large proportion of potential threats would be in the water the fish come in such as invetebrates, plants, eggs, spores, etc.. and causualy pouring the water down the drain would do wonders in allowing them to enter the ecosystem. what is is the process of importation in nz? Completely agree and 70% of the time they are nothing special. Me and my friend saw some nice bettas in organisms, the next day they sold out so they said "well ring you when we get more," they rung and we rushed through our lab, left early, got real excited, opened the door and there were red and blue VTs...(=_=)'
  5. haha cant deny that though Holland comes pretty close thats unfair surely a released tropical fish would surviive better in their waters then ours.
  6. haha dont shatter my dreams. So that means someone in nz has all these imported bettas and breeding them
  7. You are in possesion of one of the hardest fish to get in NZ we all look at you in awe I'm looking forward to hearing about their progress. who was the mother? ooh tailand has some of the best bettas! it would be good to get some of them into the country. Does hollywood ship their goods? I'll give organisms a go and see if they can import some gooduns The downside of security huh. If only we were more like America and could ship quality fish in with ease.
  8. weird...personally i would cull especially if it is genetic, but if its influenced by environmental factors eg someone poking their eyes out its unlikey to be passed on to the next generation so they would still be suitable for breeding (if they can find their mates). At the end of the day though its up to you. your hmpk is stunning! you have some lovely fish
  9. I can almost guarentee you wont have any problem finding his children new homes. I bags one I'm gonna have to make more regular trips to the petshop then. Once my frriend saw a black VT with white fins! thats one of the things I love about bettas, they come in an almost endless variety of colours and combinations so do petshops import bettas? if so would it be possible to ask them to import opaques instead of red/blue VTs or is this not how they roll
  10. Wow her fish has the most amzing colouration. I'm glad we have dragons like that in nz
  11. Thats good news I do love dragons do you know what types like black coppers, blues, red? pure white like this guy? what kind of colours were crossed to get the throws I've seen a few that a more of a flesh colour but not solid white your pk is very beautiful steel blue is quite a dark blue like
  12. Do we have opaques, dragons or steel blues avaliable in nz?
  13. That cool! Its a good idea to increase genetic diversity in a species wher inbreeding is a risk. But sometimes natural hybridization has its flaws like the native grey duck which has hybridized with introduced mallards. Now most, if not all of them are hybrids and a pure grey duck is virtually extinct
  14. woah it looks awesome! what substrate did you use?
  15. I'm thinkin' DT CT HMPK giants would be awesome to see in nz (*o*)
  16. Hes blown a bubblenest already now I've got to finish conditioning the female and hope for the best when they meet each other. would breeding the largest daughter back to the father be the best way to get full sized giants back? his daughter is about 5 months old and is slightly smaller than a nomal sized female.
  17. Aw that sucks about your other giants. What colour were they? They sound like real challenges  At least you got some offspring to keep the giant population alive in NZ he is meant to be 10 months old and is about 5.5 cm long and his body 1.5 cm deep (...he doesnt live in here by the way) I'm now slightly wishing he isnt a giant. I really want more pks and he sure looks like he could destroy my female if he decides he hates her.
  18. I've named him Exterminator 8) I got him from trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =330135272 he was the father of the spawn they were selling and I asked if they would sell the father to me. They also gave me his daughter whos a pk too!! she is normal sized but then again she is young. they've got him x red HM on tm thats what I was afraid of :-? a part of me is hoping he is just big boned
  19. I know! I see awesome fish on trademe and I get real excited then I scroll down and it says 'buyer must pick up'... you Aucklanders have all the luck  I've got all the players for my project now. My female wont know what to expect when she sees this guy  he better be gentle
  20. Trilobite

    Wooh pk!

I got a pk! :bounce: cant wait to breed him he is very big compared to my other fighters. Could he have giant in him?
  21. aw no some parents can have a genetic mutation that is passed down to its offspring. but I've read water quality is the major cause in betta fry death. missing ventrals can either be from fry sitting on the bottom and the bacteria on the ground stunting the growth of ventrals (http://www.bcbetta.com/fry.html) or it could be genetic
