    guppys

They are ordinary guppies andyman. Guppies are sometimes sold as 'cold water' but what it really means is guppies can tolerate room temperatures. If you have a well insulated house and the temp does not drop below about 18C you do not need to heat the tank.
  2. I was given a new fish today. It came from Bangkok but I do not know what species it belongs to

    Hi there!

Hi nightshade. Sounds like another case of MTS (multiple tank syndrome) coming on! Pleased to meet you.
  4. Thanks Chris. Anyone else?
  5. Does anyone out there have some pics of the mollies they caught on last year's Molly Hunt at Tokaanu swamp? If so, please email any good, sharp ones for use in the magazine.
  6. Thank Alan. He emailed it to me and asked me to post it so I did
  7. I don't know Auckland so can't tell you. There are club meetings in Green Bay Community Centre, Sunnynook Community Centre and the Sth Auckland club have the occasional dinner meeting. Feel free to start a club in your own area. We are happy to give you all the help you need. There is a newly formed reef club but I don't think they have an organised meeting place as yet.
  8. Love the new sig Ira  Which cichlids would you recommend then?
  9. Hi and welcome fishfinder. We have a number of people here who also like the unusual.
  10. OK, I have heard back from the breeder. The 1st and 3rd pics are Aulonocara jacobfreibergi. The blue one is Sciaenochromis ahli, commonly called Electric blue hap and the Copadichromis borleyi is named correctly Rob you are right about Mbuna so I am sorry Cliff for calling all my fish Mbuna when they aren't. We learn something every day
  11. Hey mole, I'm not new and I didn't notice that detail either!

    Rata logs

Silicon the log directly to the base of the tank, the back wall, or both depending on the shape o f the log
  13. Ha ha I hadn't noticed that!
  14. I have had them all 12 months now and they were young when I got them - I had to wait until they were old enough to leave home.
  15. What does age have to do with it? If he is right and it is ammonia poisoning it will affect any fish no matter what age it is.
  16. No worries Cliff. I will let you know as soon as I hear from the man who bred them.

    Rata logs

I don't boil my big pieces of wood dark and have never had a problem. I gather them from the river mouth so they have been sitting in salt water. Don't know if this helps or not.
  18. Here is the one I thought was the C borleyi...
  19. Not according to the breeder Cliff. Will be interesting to see what he says. What exactly is an Mbuna then? I thought it referred to all African cichlids. I asked for Lake Malawi species specifically (and I know J marlieri isn't one but I really like them).
  20. sorry to hear that morz and sorry we could not be of more help.
  21. Catbrat check a couple of replies above your question and you will see what the camera model is. Alan thanks for your thoughts. I will email Carey, the breeder, to double check. Not that I am doubting you of course

    My tank

Like the green brain thing top right
  23. not according to the guy I got them from. I must email him and ask. It must be one of the names listed above the pics.
  24. PS: Never had a camera before either so am still learning. I can turn it on, auto focus and take a picture but there are lots of other buttons I have no idea what they are for yet  Camera is a Sony DSC-F828 with 8.0 megapixels & 7x optical zoom.
