Always better to over-engineer. Warren is the expert on this but I would not be happy with a tank that size using less than 10mm glass. Both my tanks (similar size) are 10mm. I think pegasus said he has had a 6mm last for years though. Most important is to make sure whatever the tank is sitting on is level. It takes very little (maybe even a small bit of dirt) to cause a stress fracture. Was it also sitting on polystyrene?

Your 1999 - 2000 would be great Rob. I preferably need non scribbled ones though so hopefully someone will come up with an unadulterated 2001 - 2002. Are you going to the National Show? I could pick it up there.

You should only rinse under tap water if your water does not have stuff like chlorine added to it, otherwise you will kill the bacteria. Most people have a bucket of water taken out of the tank from when they did a water change and once the muck has settled, rinse the sponges in that.

I wouldn't be adding any more. You may be able to return some and swap them - ask the shop. Make sure you swap for something that grows to a similar size so you don't overstock. The answer to your dilemma is simple - MORE TANKS!!!! :lol:

Do you mean like "Fish Food Recipes", "Disease" etc? Each magazine is different and does not have set sections. I try to make sure each has a mix, and something about, tropicals, cold water, marine, plants, disease and breeding at least. Trying to please most of the people all of the time :lol:

I thought it was the other way around Alan. My blooms always went right through all the layers, but mostly in the middle.

I hope you keep testing the water then as I fear you have added too many fish and too fast. If the cloudiness is just at the top I would suspect gravel dust. Is it clearing at all yet?

I doubt you need to. I have never seen empty egg shells as mine always bred in places I couldn't see.

I have an AquaClear around 10 years old still using its original sponge with no deterioration. My Shark filter has just had its spong replaced as the old one was starting to fall to bits and no longer absorbing the crud as well as it used to. No need to replace the sponge, just rinse occasionally in discarded tank water when doing maintenance (ie when the flow has reduced).

Does anyone out there have a copy they don't mind donating of the following Year Books?... 1999 - 2000 and 2001 - 2002 These appear to be missing from the Archives. I can't use my own as they travelled everywhere with me and got written in, added to etc. (not to mention a little tattered by the time the year was up). Usually I have these on the computer and backed up but due to a major systems failure a while back I lost both main and back-up :evil: One of the YBs was from when I was not editor anyway so I do not have a computer copy of it at all. Please contact me if you can help with a copy of either of these.

The 3 fins mentioned are the most commonly used to attach to rocks, logs etc. Java fern can also be wedged by the roots into a split in the log or a few roots held down by gravel, or a rock. The others will soon cling. Never totally bury its roots as it prefers them to be above ground. Fishing line works well as does cotton thread. By the time the thread rots the plant will be attached.

They live off their egg sacs for 3 or 4 days then rummage around eating what the adults eat - bottom feeder pellets, stray flakes, peas, cucumber etc. They do not need fine food as they are a resonable size and rasp their way across the pellets anyway, just like the adults do.

Was the tank cycled first?

Avoid plecostomeeces (mices, omi?), silver dollars, Buenes Aires tetras for a start.

Asking questions is a lot of what we are here for - well, answering them is anyway Whether you ask them together or not depends on the questions. If they are inter-related then ask together but sometimes you may get a better response if you post each question in the appropriate thread.

Good to hear. I was staring to worry. A lot seem to have got temporarily mislaid en route.

What sort of filter do you have disneyworld? If you still have just the smaller fish like guppies, I would keep them in a spare plastic container (a bucket or barrel perhaps) with the heater and filter running in it. They will survive a week. That way when you set the tank up again you won't have to cycle it, if the tank isn't overstocked. You will get a mini cycle, depending on how much water you can save but if you can keep the filter running it will be easy. Good luck with the shift.
